The "do they mean us?" thread pt 4

Recommended Posts

Remember that supporter than said, “Leicester, who are they”?

Ha Ha Ha ….. it definitely put a bit more bite between our games.

Hazard scoring that wonderful goal in the battle of the bridge was beautiful though.

This Dele stuff is a fine reminder that people's memories are usually absolute horseshit.

LCFC did a League Cup documentary a few years ago, and I think it was Elliott or Taggart talking about the second round game against Palace that finished 3-3 with Zagorakis in goal. One of them said that result took it to a replay which we won. It was a second leg, not a replay. They'd forgotten the whole bleedin' structure of the competition.

Whether it's the idealising Filbert Street atmosphere, player performances or other team's results so many let the narrative or emotion get in the way of the reality. Several times I've had to listen to Leicester fans talk nonsense about something that's just patently untrue because they've misremembered it into a new "fact."

Dele's done similar here. What he's said is a great story to tell when recounting 2015/16. It's a better narrative than "We weren't actually that close in reality and we were the ones who failed to capitalise on the rare slipups, like when they drew 2-2 with West Brom or 2-2 with West Ham."

But essentially that's all it is. A story. Thankfully it's just so damn easy to fight off that narrative with facts.

Point is, people's memories and eagerness to push narrative will lead to these fables. Whether that's cynical or a mistake is another thing.

Agreed.

That said, I don't think he is a million miles off the specifics - he is probably referring to our 5 game streak of 1-0 wins (we all remember the Norwich game and how big that late pen was) and has thrown out a comment about an own goal out of nowhere.

It doesn't mean the narrative is accurate but I think people are taking a throwaway comment a little too seriously.

Would help if interviewers were better prepared too

Probably true about taking silly comment a bit too seriously. Strange though how the 1-0 wins could be alluded to as lucky.

Was pushing all of the myths about that season. It's quite funny how much they cling onto a run of about 5 games which we got more points from than they did anyway.

There was no late pen against Norwich?

See, everyone's memory is shit lol

Getting confused with Ulloa's two late goals, the one at Norwich and the pen vs West Ham.

This came up on my 'memories' timeline with the caption below:

17966254_1301358489913097_70057494115974

The last 10 years at Leicester City have produced this.

What do the next 10 years hold?

The first six of those next 10 years:

2018 - Midtable and owner died in a helicopter crash outside the stadium

2019 - Midtable

2020 - 5th and a League Cup Semi Final

2021 - 5th and an FA Cup win

2022 - 8th and a Europa Conference League Semi Final

2023 - 18th and relegated from the Premier League

2024 - Proved beyond any reasonable doubt that the Premier League and the English Football League are absolutely corrupt

2025 - A billion-pound cash injection from compensation from the Premier League, EFL and Manchester City

2026 - Then another hilarious miracle occurs

2027 - Champions League winners

Mad isn't it!

My prediction:

2024 - 2nd in the Championship

2025 - relegated (including firesales and points deductions)

2026 - Fail to get promoted

2027 - Promoted

You're a barrel of laughs! We've been through much worse times in the past, whatever the next 2/3 seasons brings I don't think it will phase us as fans.

Was that the "you do the maths" bloke?

Another one was when a Spurs fan said we had no class and one of our fans said "we've got Kasabian, you've got Chas 'n Dave".
