it’s just outright unrealistic

Then it's obviously confusing you because that's exactly the point.

Did you even read what you quoted?

They're not expecting to actually get 100m.

That’s how people were reacting and you said they’re were confused :dunno:

I can't claim to have watched a great deal of Tyler Dibling, is he actually any good? I don't mean £100m good but would any of the "big clubs" actually be looking at him?

Yes he has a lot of upside. And yes, big clubs will be looking at him but can’t see for more than £50m max.

Do you think he’s in the top 5 worst ever signings? Skipp, Vestergaard, Ward. Over the years this lot are some of worst.

9 years apart, not 45 years. In football terms, 9 years is quite recent (let alone it arguably being the greatest league win in the history of football) and even more so is the 4 years ago that we won the oldest knockout cup in the world.

“Forest 25” as fantastic as a season as it’s been and the fans should rightly be loving it, come the middle of next season no-one will remember that they finished in champions league spots even a lot of Forest fans. People will remember Leicester winning the league forever.

The unfortunate thing for Forest is that having such a good season will only heighten the possibility of the stars leaving. Murillo, Aina, Gibbs-White will all being watched by the bigger boys. And just for arguments sake, come the end of next season and there’s no European football there, having tasted the champions league these players are going to want it more, Riyad Mahrez a prime example of that for you. League form will almost certainly not be as consistent as this season due to the extra games and we’ve seen that first hand ourselves.

All of this is true, but it's not the point.

Forest's best season in 30 years is happening now. Leicester's best season ever happened nearly a decade ago.

Saying "your success now is not as good as ours was then" is like when your dad tells you nights out aren't what they used to be when he's settling in for a Friday night on the sofa and you're out on the pull. Yeah, whatever, Dad.

Also, no-one outside Lancashire cares that Blackburn won the Premier League once. Leicester's win will become a pub quiz question as the years plod on.

This is where it all goes wrong for them. Should've upgraded their stadium instead, as we should've.

Southampton sorting out their executives ahead of next season - sacking their head of recruitment, new technical director in Spors (was linked to Newcastle/Spurs DoF jobs) appointed last month. We should be doing something similar!

You are aware that 1979 and 1980 are exactly that and have been for several decades?

People do and will care more about Blackburn and Leicester winning the league than Forest making the champions league. What an absolutely ridiculous argument. Nobody on here is downplaying how well Forest are doing this season, in fact many of our fans are falling over themselves in praise for you lot.

Regardless of whether our league win was 9 years ago or Blackburns was 30 years ago, they will be forever written in history and never forgotten. Forest finishing in the champions league places will literally be forgotten in less than a year.

Exactly this.

Once they get dumped out at the league stage and go back to plodding along in midtable next season, they'll simply revert to type.

Both their season now and ours in 2016 were arguably lightning in a jar, but we actually grabbed the nettle and won a trophy that will never be forgotten. Give it two years when Forest are back in a relegation battle, and their eight games in the UCL won't even be a pub quiz question.

Also worth remember that whilst it is an achievement, finishing top 4 is not what is was a few years ago.

It comes on the back of Newcastle and Villa doing the same. It is a fact that there has not been the same top 6 performing clubs as there was previously for the past few years which has opened the door.

Man City, Arsenal (minus the post Wenger dip) and Liverpool have been fairly strong (Man City coincidentally having their worst year in 15 odd years this year) but Man U (bar the Mourinho year where they finished 2nd) have declined further, Spurs are declining year on year and Chelsea are up and down and massively under performing in the last few years relative to how much they have spent.

Yes it takes some good recruitment and things coming today and it’s great for their fans as it was Villa and Newcastle but let’s not pretend that:

1 - Forest and Villa and Newcastle before haven’t spent obscene money, dwarfing not only us in 2016 but also our seasons under Rodgers.

2 - That none of these 3 clubs would have been close to top 4 a few years ago before the rich 6 clubs stopped being the ‘top 6’.

As I say, great for their fans and fair play. You still need to get it right over the rest of the clubs pushing but it’s no fairy tale.

It also shows what I thought all along which is that much of our fan base was hailing the 5th place finishes but it was actually a huge underperformance both times around for us.
