The difference at elite sport level is massive though. The fact he's already had it operated on and that's his starting fitness/muscle levels will be very high, massively reduces the potential long term impact. That and he'll get daily care and monitoring means he'll be in a great place.

Like you, my rehab was grim; 18 months and it took probably less than 60 seconds in my first match back to do it again. Can never play football or any contact sport again, and can't really run either. But that's partly because I had a particularly bad ACL injury but also because I wasn't given the care or attention Abdul will get. I'm sure he'll be ok.

Very true, but even then as we have seen with Ricardo and JJ they aren't as sharp as they were pre ACL injury. Was reading a study in America on college athletes and they say on average even in elite collegiate athletes the average drop off in performance is about 20%, which is insane given the treatment and rehab available now to them.

You're rehab sounds like mine, I'm currently 15 months post op having done the ACL clean as well as both meniscus, had to have a follow up surgery to clear out some scar tissue and I'm still not cleared to run let alone play any contact sport. I've accepted even at 30 my football playing days are done, as long as I can play golf and cricket then that will be a small win.

I suspect the drop in performance is more due to confidence than purely physical ability.  I imagine having returned from a prolonged injury, the last thing a player wants to do is go in for a slightly risky tackle.

Such a shame. Hope he comes back better than Ricky and JJ as they're not the same but I don't really know anything about it but the point re age seems logical. Lost our wildcard, will be utilising the Samaritans number as an uphill slog is now an uphill slog barefoot on glass

On the plus side something else.

Would agree that some of that is probably psychological. Didn't see how Abdul did his but a good % of ACL tears are non contact, so wouldn't even just be confidence in a tackle, it will be any movements involving twisting or sudden changes in direction. Reason a lot of ACL injuries occur in skiing. Having known bugger all about ACL injuries 2 years ago now become a first hand expert 😅

So gutted for him first and foremost. It’s the type of injury that players never seem to quite be the same afterwards. Hopefully youth on his side, he can come back as good as he was before it.

It all but confirms relegation for me- he’s our most attacking threat (even though it took Cooper a while to realise it) and we will miss him hugely.

I suppose that at least he's had a quick op and they're so frequent now, many players come back just fine. Time will tell.

Sorry to hear that buddy . The only crumb of comfort is that you have had a second op before you've made it worse. Sounds like you've had it worse and I've long since made peace with mine. Did it when I was 25 but already knew I didn't want to keep playing 11 a side after 30 (and get the **** kicked out of you every week) so it's probably done you a favour there lol.

I put my eggs in the golf basket as well. It's just pushing past the psychological barriers as much as anything. At least it's a game for old men :D

That’s horrendous news. In the short term massively damaging to us but also long term hope he manages to come back as sharp as he’s been.

bollocks, Seagrave cant keep uninjured players fit so dont fancy his chances of ever being as good as he was.

Looks like he will be a Leicester player for some years yet although shame those years wont be in the Premier League.

this is Karma, would you rather we got a 6 point deduction or lose Fatawu for the rest of the season?

So disappointing for Abdul and everyone connected with the club. Lets hope he comes back stronger!

It finishes you really.

Like you stated, we saw it with JJ and Ricardo. Alves and Braybrooke will never be the players that the hype suggests.

It is such a horrific injury as it impacts how you move and turn.

I didn’t play for 4 years when I did mine.

I am gutted by this. I feel so sorry for fatawu to be in this situation so wish him a healthy recovery.

Given we never sacked Cooper and now this, I think rubbing my knob across a cheese grater would be less painful then the rest of our season. On second thought, maybe not lol

Hope we find a way to stay in the epl  but this hurts bad.

Terrible news - but it might force Cooper to look at the at the academy players. Although there really isn't any need because we've got BDCR

If he did he'd either pick the wrong one's or play them out of position!

Get well soon Abdul. Apart from his talent he always has a massive smile on his face and I would imagine he is a very positive character, which the team really need. Massive loss and we will need to do something in January to fill the gap.

We're getting into the busiest period of the year, and they decide to throw in an international break and have players jet around the world. Then wonder why they get injured and quality drops

90 Prem games in 45 days. That enforced squad rotation with 2 games in 3 days at Christmas isnt exactly going to produce "peak Barclays"
