Got a horrible feeling this is going to be a continuation of the absolute circus of a season so far. Hope he's got contacts to bring some January signings in at least.

Top’s probably directing the ‘announce video’ seeing as the club’s media team are so creatively incompetent vs other clubs.

It’s gonna be a ****ing masterpiece.

Its just gonna be Ruud in a CIA holding cell, surrounded by monitors and speakers blasting Vardys 11th consecutive goal against United on repeat.

Stories in Holland claim  there was  a player revolt behind the scenes...

I listened to a Dutch reporter talking about this, and so I suspect there is some truth behind this falling out with some players at PSV after only 1 season.

A slight red flag, along with him having a big fall out with Ferguson in his playing days. Gary Neville also said he would never have imagined Ruud to go into Management, a light hearted dig at his selfish temperament from what I can gather.

There is still a lot of unknowns though, and we just have to hope that those are filled with positive outcomes for Leicester. He will likely have instant respect from the players, due to his playing days, something that now seems obvious that Cooper wasn't given or lost quite quickly.

It feels good to be excited again, but we really don't know what we have yet. We still have a poor squad, so I am hoping he will be afforded a little patience, at least until he can get some of his own players in during January.

I am just praying something clicks and it becomes the perfect match for Ruud and the squad, and we manage to keep a healthy gap to the bottom 3.

Its ok, our players never fall out with the manager.  He will get on great with Jannick who definitely hasn't fallen out with two already.

Seriously though the players had a year of Enzo to get used to a manager with exacting standards, I think they will be fine.

hard to judge that really, we don’t know the temperament of the players he had there.

In my opinion, we have a great bunch of lads in the team, they might not be the best ability wise but they all seem pretty good guys and seem to be professional (if you don’t get hung up on having a laugh with your mates on a xmas do).

Wouldn’t be worried about that sort of drama here tbh. Unless he benched vardy from day one and creates an issue there, he wont have many unusual issues.

Shock as getting a job can sometimes come down to who you know, rather than what you know.

We’ve built a bit of a reputation for player power reading between the lines. Albeit some of those have moved on.

I think he’ll be a 2 years and done type of coach, that will drive us hard then it’ll implode.

Neil Custis, Football writer

into the Leicester job must have managers further down the leagues tearing their hair out.

This week at the Northwest Football Awards, for example, Dave Challinor of Stockport was named manager of the year ahead of Pep Guardiola.

Now that may be because organisers felt he would probably turn up to get his gong, unlike Guardiola.

Still, two promotions in 2½  years to lift the area’s poor relation from the National League to League One — where they sit fourth — is incredible.

Yet that and a managerial background  at Colwyn Bay, AFC Fylde and Hartlepool would sadly never put him on a Premier League club’s radar.

It never does.

Van Nistelrooy was on that radar at the Foxes in the summer after one season managing at PSV Eindhoven before they went for Steve Cooper.

Now after a further four games as interim Manchester United boss and he is in at the King Power and Cooper is out.

To be fair, Michael Carrick did not do too badly on the back of his three games as caretaker at Old Trafford in 2021.

He racked up two wins and a draw and, by the next October, was manager of Middlesbrough.

Big names excite fans and Van Nistelrooy has one, literally.

At PSV, he won the 2023 Dutch Cup and was runner-up in the league  but walked out amid a dispute with the board over  lack of backing in the transfer market — an early red flag.

Emotional Ruud van Nistelrooy given incredible ovation at Old Trafford with Man Utd interim still unclear on his future

After a year out, this summer he became part of a coaching set-up with Erik ten Hag that oversaw the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season.

Then came those four games as caretaker.

Coincidentally, the first was a 5-2 Carabao Cup win over Leicester.

Except it was the Foxes’ second team as  Cooper prioritised that  weekend’s relegation six-pointer at Ipswich, which they  drew 1-1.

Van Nistelrooy followed it with a creditable 1-1 draw against Chelsea, a 2-0 victory over PAOK in the Europa League,  then a 3-0 win over — guess who? — Leicester again.

So hardly the most taxing run of games and that draw with Chelsea was an absolute shocker of a game.

Still, he briefly lifted the club  and the reception he got from the United faithful obviously struck a chord with the Foxes hierarchy watching from the directors’ box.

That love-in was more to do with his 150 goals for the club way back when, rather than any managerial masterpiece.

At a time when image is everything, however, the Dutchman  comes across very well.

Just look at how  Lee Carsley was dismissed  as a potential England boss because of how he handled the media glare.

If Van Nistelrooy turned on the charm — like he did in his United press conferences — during his  interview for the Foxes job, you can see why  he got it.

That is not to say the  ex-striker, 48, will not do well —  as he leans on the experience of  working with some greats.

Like the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, who he gave a volley of abuse to when his boss did not bring him on  in the 2006 League Cup final.
There is clearly a fiery side to the man.

Worryingly for Foxes chiefs, the story goes that it was not just down to  a lack of support from above that saw Van Nistelrooy leave PSV just before the season ended.

Stories in Holland claim  there was  a player revolt behind the scenes...

If all the paperwork is done, his first  game as Foxes gaffer  could be at Brentford on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Challinor, 49, is set to host Brackley in the FA Cup.

It seems if he  wants to manage in the top flight, he will have to get there with Stockport.

Lazy 2+2=5 tabloid work from Custis. It was widely reported that RVN had initially applied for the Cov job so the club would’ve known he was looking for work and we don’t know if he then applied for the LCFC job. The story has a massive assumption that Challinor would’ve been looking for a job whereas he may well be enjoying his time at Stockport and not be looking to leave mid project - loyalty can still exist within football even in a world where sackings are just a bad run away! There’s also the added factor of compensation.

I think it's more the case that good managers in lower leagues find it really tough to get a job at the top of the game because big name players wake up one day and decide they want to be a manager and they seemingly walk into the top jobs.  There's nothing in the article that suggests Challinor was interested in the job, it's just highlighting a wider trend.  Maybe managing a team isn't that difficult and actually, having a big name might make buying new players easier - perhaps that was a factor in our summer recruitment?

As for compensation?  I'm sure we could meet any compensation clause with Stockport, they're not exactly in the top 1% yet.

I wonder what the delay is? Would have thought we would have wanted a manager in place as we have two games we might just get something from. He (whoever it is) is not going to impact tomorrow and then only 3 days later we have West Ham.

He had to go down to Challinor to find an example that he thought was a viable option so maybe he’s answered his own question. There’s not much down there that  fit a criteria of being currently successful, will cost next to zero compensation and would potentially want to join.

Whilst we lined him up pre sacking, we clearly didn’t do much groundwork re contact and backroom staff (backroom staff understandable).

Wait for it in the media 'Ruud van Nistelroy's Leicester', has any football legend become a good manager ?

Hope this isn't rose tinted spectacles and all that, we're going to find out pretty quickly.

Delays happen and I understand that.

The problem is the news coming out of the club via media sources is that Top wasn’t knee jerk in his decision on Sunday afternoon. Now the club was absolutely right to get rid of Cooper but if we are told they were “monitoring” performance, why were these discussions, issues etc. not ironed out in the two weeks prior.

RVN was unemployed, the club had concerns. We could’ve gone up against Chelsea and fluked a result but at least those discussion would’ve occurred for a situation the seniors were “monitoring”. In fact there should’ve discussions with more than one person.

There is very little defence for the club going into a game tomorrow with an unknown caretaker - very little. Even for the most loyal KP fanboy. This board, this time in the ownership gets criticised because they make decision and fail to proactively protect the club. These things come across as inept, because they are. Worst case scenario always for Leicester and it has been under the ownership of Top.

Are you suggesting that a caretaker coach that no one has ever heard of will get humbled by an experienced operator like Thomas Frank? For the record I think we will get beat, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if we got a result. From what we’ve heard the players will be buoyed by Coopers sacking and will want to impress the new manager. Stranger things have happened! But I agree it’s all been handled badly and is a totally unnecessary mess.

I would imagine Ruud is trying to sort out family and moving and all that. Somebody should send his wife some images of Bradgate Park to help smooth the transition.

Ben Dawson in charge tomorrow then irrespective of if RVN is announced today, tomorrow or after the weekend.

Yep. If it was a knee jerk and we had no one lined up then whatever. Saying it wasn't a knee jerk to try and cover yourself then makes having no one lined up even worse.

We're just poorly run and owned by someone who doesn't really care or have the minerals to do the job even if he did. That's all it boils down to.
