Absolutely staggering that less than 5 years ago we were finishing top 6 in the top flight, and won a domestic trophy, while Ipswich weren't even finishing top 6 of the third tier.

Now we're both in the second tier and we don't even consider ourselves as promotion rivals to them.

Momentum can be a very powerful force, both positive and negative.

He’s just not very good.

The reality is, however, that we’re caveating every sale with the thought of who are we actually going to buy?

Useful squad player if we don’t buy anyone, but you’d ordinarily hope we’d be after better

Doesn't have the all round game to be an effective striker in 202_, decent positioning and finishing from a wide position isn't enough to translate into being a 9. Far too limited in possession to play centrally, the reason he plays out wide is because that's what suits him best.

He had a purple patch early on in 23/24 and he's not showed anywhere near that efficacy since then because he's not particularly fast,  a poor dribbler and chronically uncreative. He's likeable because he grafts and he can finish but it's not enough. £5m+ represents a great deal for us.

But we will lose a lot of height if he goes

Personally thought he's more suited to a no.8 role - played very well v Stoke there under Enzo.

Agreed. He's not really a winger more of an 8 with a half decent finish on him.

He would replace BEK in the interim but I think selling him is probably the right thing to do.

Our issue is our 1st eleven needing improving but it appears we now need to replace our squad players too. But assuming us fans would rather keep Bobby Reid as the player that can step in for Abdul.

I think we'll likely rely on loans probably of the same ilk as Kasey but needs must I guess.

When we have so many players that don't want to be here or have attitude problems, I wouldn't be selling one of the very few that consistently gives his all and seems to care about the club. Yes he's not a starter and yes he has his limitations, but we need to building a new culture and Kasey is a good fit for that.

If we sell Mcateer maybe we can offset the loss of a player who gives a shit by selling one or two of Wink, Faes, Soumare etc.

Everyone saying we are just selling everyone. We have literally only sold ndidi, Coady and mads. IMO everyone should be made available except, Abdul, Monga, Nelson, Jakub. If the right offer comes in everyone one should be allowed to leave, Kasey is one of them.

In terms of club culture, attitude, and respect to the badge. Selling McAteer would be one of the last things you do.

Can't imagine his salary is very high, and I imagine his loyalty and gratitude to the club is high, considering where he was a few years ago.

Selling to a rival (and they are,) isn't usually advisable, as we know he can score goals in the Championship, something if you look around... We're not particularly blessed with (Ayew, Daka, BEK, Soumare, Winks, Skipp are goal shy.)

We should be prioritising the departure of BDR first as this leaves us quite vulnerable and reliant on a post-injury Fatawu.

At this point the only people I'd be annoyed to see go are the 16/17 year olds...

From last season’s squad, we’ve also had Vardy, Buonanotte, Ward and Iversen leave. Add the three sales and likely El Khannous, that’s eight senior players trimmed from the squad. It’s not that people are saying don’t get rid of any more (an even bigger clear out was probably needed), but at some point we’ll need to look at getting some replacements in to have an adequate sized squad. The alternative is that we rely more heavily on the younger players who are currently on the fringes - Nelson, Alves, Aluko etc - and hope for the best.

Hard one as his likable and puts a shift in, and is good to have around the place.

In reality his 4th choice winger at best behind Fatawu, Mavididi and Monga, and we have waiting in the wings SIlko Thomas and Alves who can play wide.

It also pure profit, we need money to strengthen else where.

Agreed and the issue I have is that McAteer is so far down the list of players that we need to move on from either a cost or contract element or due to attitude. Would much rather see Faes, Vesty, VK, Winks, Soumare, Daka, BDCR gone before Kasey but just about sums up this summer.

The only upside is it is pure profit for PSR but I would hazard a guess this would not be reinvested back into the squad. In addition his versatility does mean he covers 4 or 5 positions which is priceless if we are on our arses and going to be operating with a small squad.

we lose Kasey it’s another player who would run through a brick wall for the club gone whilst others who couldn’t give a toss continue to hang around.

Bit of a catch 22. He’s average at best so glad to be getting money in. However we all know we won’t reinvest that money and will be stuck with BDR as backup who is much more shite

And much higher salary

Think they are in about a pay per play deal for fans. You have to have a full kit, your own boots and pay them £2k for the privilege. The only criteria is your kit can’t be a snide DH Gate version.
