Rot started when

When Rodgers started belittling the players and saying we hadn’t got enough quality, when he was trying to get more money from the board. We had Kasper, Vardy, Maddison, Tielemans, Barnes, Albrighton, plenty of quality there. He threw the players under the bus. He should have been sacked then.

Dropping Kasper and playing Ward that stopped a consecutive appearances record showed there was something really odd going on. I think there had been power struggles for a while which really showed after that Forest cup game.

 

Rodgers publicly stating he needed a refresh of players, behaving like he was just going to get it and then the club doing nothing (apart from a fire sale and a purchase of side show bob). All this showed that our club wasnt being run anymore. Power stuggles ended up with noone having any power at all.

The Forest FA Cup game seems to be where it started, it might even have been COVID. The money players were put on for Champions League football, which we never had.

The thing about rot is that it starts long before it becomes visible. Most of these examples are when it became visible.

 

There were two levels of rot that started:

 

1. When Rudkin was appointed football director and when Pearson was sacked later that season. Rudkin was always an incompetent, purely administrative director of football that initially performed ok because he didn't get in the way of the competent people around him. Pearson was the one who originally put that competency in place and without him there was no one to maintain it.

 

2. When Rodgers was apponted and dismantled the remaining competency within the club. Rodgers brought in Congerton which led to rubbish signings and got rid of David Rennie which led to a pile up of injuries. Most of the club's best scouts left during the Rodgers era as well. As other's mentioned he also set the "we shouldn't even be here mentality".

 

When that surrounding competency was dismantled from around Rudkin and the remainders of the Premier League winning squad moved on there was no one left to set standards anymore and it all fell apart.

I know Xg/Xpg isn't the be all and end but the season before we went down, it was a telling story. Finished 8th but were something like 17th/18th in that table. That shows we were bailed out by having quality players, and that we weren't playing as a team/lacking in strategy/poor culture etc. That's never really left us, even under Maresca some of those things shined through

That was the moment for me that felt like the rot set in, Rodgers looking for a ‘Brendan Worship’ and not a 140 year football club that had done a lot of things right to be competing amongst Europeans top clubs, 

 

From them the dangerous mindset of ‘well we shouldn’t really be here anyway’ was set 

 

I believe this is the reason why so many people in the fanbase are ok with this current situation, because they’ve been brainwashed into the mindset that club history should stipulate where the club are, not the performance on the pitch

For me, like many have said. When Rodgers outed the board and essentially gave up. 
 

It highlighted many problems, and produced many more. There’s no reason that team couldn’t stay up, Rodgers gave up and that festered throughout the club. 
 

The ownership failed to address this until it was too late, and then things snowballed out of control. 
 

Maresca halted this temporarily, but after him the rot just further increased.

Summer 2021. Missed out on top four again by being bottlers. Brendan should have gone then really in hindsight. Certainly should have done in summer 2022, we finished 8th but didn't deserve to really. Summer 21 was also spunking money up the wall, embarrassing really and haven't recovered from it

Rodgers saying what he did was probably the first outward sign, but I'd say the Top and Rudders shitshow was probably well in motion by that point (and probably what drove Rodgers to behave the way he did).

Should have sacked Rodgers after the Forest FA cup debacle and appointed Emery.

Where do we start? Vichai's passing? Covid and then going on to bottle top 4 place, the same happened a year later. Rodgers having too much influence at the club? Lee Congerton's transfers? Rudkin and overpaying of players, or his sanctioning of the already mentioned abysmal transfers? Not selling players and then being persuaded to become a buying club by Rodgers? Keeping Rodgers past his "use by date"?  Overpaying Rodgers? Having an irrational transfer and managerial policy.  Those at the top believing the players were capable enough to keep us up 2 times and now for the 3rd?  Rudkin getting a promotion? Nepo baby not having a clue?  Kasper leaving because he was too vocal when he saw standards dropping?  Nepo baby listening to the players and not Kasper? 

 

I've probably forgotten to add a few, but there having been so many f**k ups at this club, and now we must become the future example of 'how not to run a football club'.

It all started in the summer of 2022 because that's when the financial concerns started at the club . And we did nothing in the transfer window. Sold Fofana for 70m and signed Faes to replace him. We let Kasper leave and somehow thought that Danny Ward would be fine in nets. Performances were dog sh*t for months, no rush - we'll keep Rodgers around until April. And then the game which sent us down - Everton, Maddison misses the penalty to go 3-1 up. Game finishes 2-2. The end.

The year after we won the title. Was the beginning. 

 

We had a recovery under Puel and Rogers (initially). 

 

We then imploded under Rogers. That 1st game of the season against Brentford. 2-0 up and Rogers refused to make a substitution as he had been saying he needed players and we drew 2-2...

 

The teams, tactics and substitutes he made from that point on started the change in attitude amongst the club as it all became all about money. Rogers a pay off from being sacked. The players on high wages. The club PSR. And the fans distrust in the squad, management and the first questions about the hierarchy.

Let’s be honest it was the Vichai’s passing. I don’t for a second think it would be all rosey now had that not occurred but I don’t believe  Rudkin would have the power he now has.

 

I just don’t believe Vichai would keep a manager like Brendan in the job while he’s poisoning the well like he did.

Rudkin devolving power to Brendan and Congerton has absolutely led to this fall.

 

We’re essentially waiting for blind luck to land on another Maresca just to pull us out of this nose dive. We won’t recover until KP and Rudkin are gone.

The rot had already started before that. We were honking from the start of the season and crashed out of an easy Europa league group. Forest was the game where his tenure should of become completely untenable
