Personally don’t care if it’s Madueke, Burn, Kane or Chalobah who gets goals or the winner but each to their own.

Plenty cared when Saka, Rashford and Sancho were subject to vile abuse when they missed penalties against Italy in the Euros final in 2021, just saying.

Even UEFA are giving FIFA pelters over the Balogun decision now.

Pot kettle and that but fair play. FIFA are a disgrace.

Fantastic game, though I think there’s a slight overreaction from the media for England beating an also-ran nation that has only reached the quarter finals twice and never the last 4. It’s being reported as if we beat one of the big boys.

People keep slagging us(Canada), but we are man per man better than that Mexico side. How many of their players are playing at Bayern or Juve?

They talk about Jimenez like he's world class, but he'd be sitting on our bench with Cyle f**king Larin lol

Mexico had their home circus and that's it.

UEFA's statement is a belter—dripping with icy contempt. They don't mince their words.

Oh I just mean because UEFA aren’t exactly clean when it comes to being money grabbing and a bit corrupt, albeit not on the same level as FIFA under Infantino.

Context, though. They had an unbelievable record at the Azteca and we were down to 10 men for almost half the game. It's the sort of game that England sides of the past would have 'bottled' and rolled over in.

In a domestic context, I guess it's the equivalent to a formerly flaky Arsenal side going and getting a result somewhere like Elland Road or St James' with their backs to the wall and 10 men etc.

At the very least it was a far more positive performance under difficult circumstances. I've been very critical of our world cup so far but can't fault them for last night

Ooo errr, UEFA. I personally wouldn’t pick a fight with FIFA but it’s very brave if them to do so. For those that  haven’t seen, they’ve released a statement saying the decision to suspend the banning of Balogun is unjustifiable and incomprehensible and that the integrity of the game is at stake.

of FIFA were to overturn the red card then fair enough, but they didn’t, they just suspended the ban that comes with it.

It’s almost like they’re correct. Imagine the uproar if Putin pulled this stunt in 2018 😂

Some people just can’t give England credit.

It’s more to do with the context of the game. Most people that know the game are fully aware that on paper, the Mexicans are an average international side.

Better than an average international side. Currently ranked 14th.

Wasn't sure about the teams Mexico played in this unbeaten Azteca World Cup record and how strong it actually is...

1970

- El Salvador, 4-0 win

- USSR, 0-0

- Belgium, 1-0 win

1986

- Belgium, 2-1 win

- Paraguay, 1-1

- Iraq, 1-0

- Bulgaria, 2-0 win

2026

- South Korea, 2-0 win

- Czech Republic, 3-0 win

- Ecuador, 2-0 win

Apart from this year, what were some of those teams like? Weren't USSR and Bulgaria strong for that era?

A shame to have missed it but wasn't feasible. Well done to those who managed to watch it.

Laughable to think some journalists thought England would be better off without Bellingham.

1986 Belgium made it to the semi final.

Also, Mexico won the confederation's cup final at Azteca against Brazil in 1999. Goes without saying that was a really good Brazil team.

I was thinking Stoichkov for Bulgaria but he didn't appear in World Cup finals until later on - 1994.  Top player mind. The Soviets were (shock) well organised and hard as nails...half time fag...slug of vodka...that sort of thing.

Just watched it again and that Mexican 2nd pen should absolutely not have been given. Ridiculous.

At the very least, the decision to not give it at the time was not a clear and obvious error and therefore the on field decision should have stood.

I think if Kane goes down holding his foot he probably gets the free kick. In the same way the defender gets a free kick when someone tries to close them down.
