Happy with this. Interesting the club listing him as Attacking Midfielder rather than Forward say. Wonder if that hints at how RM sees him, as one of the 8/10’s

We gave Vestergaard a 3 year contract as a 31 year old and he was being paid a hell of a lot more than Chaplin will be.

 

They're not really that comparable.

If the terms aren't outrageous (and it does seem McCarron has some semblance of intelligence) then he should be very good at this level. I'd prefer the bulk of any incomings to be younger but the odd older head won't kill us; we've just recruited miserably in that department for 5/6 years in terms of characters and finances so it's difficult to fully embrace signings like this.

On the face of it 3 years seems too long, but if he's a free and we wouldn't have got him otherwise, it could still be decent business.

Come on now, surely if we want Braybrooke, Page, alves etc to thrive you must see they need some experience around them.

Presume he wouldn't have signed for a League One club if we offered 1 or 2 years.

 

I know somebody who works at Ipswich who says Chaplin is a really positive person to have in a team, as well as adding quality.

 

I think this is an excellent signing.

agreed on this. The influence on the younger players will be pivotal, as I expect we will have a youth based side for most of this season with some seasoned pros sprinkled in

Good signing. 26 goals in L1 four seasons ago and should be a much needed leader for our young players.
