Alves definitely cannot be relied upon to be our starting LW/RW or 10 without competent back up but it's unneccessary signings like this that get in the way of the likes of Riley Carr.

The wages we'll end up paying him you could get Abdulmalik from Boreham Wood for £1m and wages IMO.

Need a loan somewhere he can get 20-30 games in, with only a 7 man bench I can't see him getting enough minutes he with the current squad.

He behind Alves, Watson, Mavididi as it stands.

We are not raiding them ,they are sending us their castoffs ,they are raiding us .

To be fair we've creamed them for about 15m more than they should have paid for 2 of our players over the last 2 summers so, only fair

I think Morsy is a free agent, might as well get him in as well. Goodbye Southampton, hello Ipswich as our new obsession 🙃

You mean you were n't obsessed by the Tractor Boys before ? 😃

Gonna be like Spurs and Maddison where we start buying their crap so its like we never actually got any money for the player we sold them

Who else they got we could sign until its like we never got the money for Fatawu?

The feedback and reaction from Ipswich’s fans is positive and if it helps get some of the dross out the door I’m all for it.

The only worry is if they’ve got the last reliable years of football out of him. With his injury record over the last two years he won’t be getting anywhere near 40/50 games this season. If all they wanted was to supplement Watson/Alves with someone experienced then it seems potentially expensive as a solution.

What is also a likely non negotiable is needing to raise £30-40m in transfers next summer like we've had to every summer just to keep the wolf from the door.

The way that is even remotely possible is turning young players in to good players and that will be seriously impacted by the approach we are going down. It's a finely poised balance we have to get right.

Ric, you wanted us relegated if it meant KP was open to selling up... well here we are. Are we not a more attractive proposition to wealthy investors as a club on an upward rather than downward trajectory?  Failure to secure promotion will probably land us in administration where we'll be picked up by Sports Direct.

I'm not sure we can completely roll the dice with youth in the hope of increasing their market value. A balancing act for sure.

So let me get this right.  We are signing an experienced winger plus 30 yrs old who excelled for Ipswich in league 1.  Who according to some is crocked because he had an ACL injury.

Meanwhile, Ipswich sign Fatawu from us for 20 million, who was hit and miss for us last season, and has had an ACL injury.

Yet, people are having a meltdown over this.  Logic, reason non ...................

Plenty of logic and reason, tbh

Burns has played 798 mins in the Championship post injury. Fatawu played 3,723 after his and is the best part of a decade younger

Ipswich are in the Premier League with a larger budget, we are not and have to be mindful of what we're spending. If we're coaxing a PL player to League One we aren't gonna be offering him change from down the back of the sofa.

I think this represents a good deal, given the recent injury and signing a new deal, it points to a loan, which hopefully means a shared wage contribution.

If we can produce moments of quality like that Travela goal, I am all for this!

Welcome Wes!

Maybe Skipp & Hamza outgoings are true? 1 for 2 wages replacement?

Leaves us with:

Cullen
Mavididi Chaplin Burns

Page Braybrooke

Alves, BosnianFox, Watson, Hutchinson, Carr, Evans, Neale

Dread to think how much we'll be paying him.

It'll be over 20k a week, easily. He's not giving up a Premier League salary to come to Leicester without us matching it.

Plus he's ancient, hasn't ever pulled up any trees in the game and is coming off the back of an awful injury.

Great signing for league 1 though, eh!

nah i don think he'll be on over 20k a week, BUT over the length of his contract here he'll probably earn more than he would over the yrs deal hes got currently at Ipswich

im not going to say hes ancient or anything like that either.....i dont think its a good signing nor a bad one, its a meh one really

its one of them signings if we got him for like 50k and a 1 yr deal on a low-ish wage(heavy bonuses) and a routation player it would be decent

its just an odd one overall, although rather him that Ollie Cooper we was linke with

There are some weird people on this forum. Our squad is so young. Having a few over 30 year olds is an absolute must for any team looking to win the league/get promoted. Look at Chelsea as an example of a club having to drastically move away from their model of buying young by signing Henderson and Wellbeck….the class of 92 doesn’t happen. You do need experience.

I don’t think it is that young though - there is already a lot of older and experienced players in there - with a lot of games at a higher level

Burns has to be the last “experienced” player we sign, we have plenty of them and don’t need any more

Keepers - 36, 27, 25

Right Backs - 27, 20, 19

Left backs - 25, 19

Centre backs - 28, 27, 25, 22

Centre mids - 28, 25, 22, 20, 18

Wingers / attacking mids - 33, 29, 28, 27, 21, 20, 18, 18, 17

Striker - 23*

Is it possible that this is related to the Fatawu deal in some way?

I can see that being the case, he essentially signed for them on a free so it’s pure profit on PSR. You’d expect (hope) the fee is very small though.

Reckon we will get an experienced centre back if we sell Souttar and Faes but that aside I agree, unless it’s a free option with low wages and a short deal as a see me through for the season

Seems unlikely since he only signed a one year deal with Ipswich, but I hope it is a loan. That would be a good transfer for us imo.

Here's a thought: perhaps Chelsea's issue is not that their squad is young but that they suffer from squad bloat and regularly chopping and changing their team.

Chelsea were fine in 19/20 when they were forced to play their academy players due to a transfer ban.

He is surplus to requirements at Ipswich.  He was, an established player in league 1 for Ipswich.  Fatawu on the other hand has had limited playing time in the premier league due to his ACL injury and Ipswich forked out 20 million for him.  We get an experienced player at this level who will help the youngsters in our squad who has previously played with Chaplin.  I don't see what's not to like.

As for finances, who knows, who cares.  Does it really matter if it gets us out of league 1 which is our aim.

The same youth we are all apparently expecting to win the league only using? Surely they’d also win the lower league cups by the same logic

No, not the same youth. Like I said there is a squad of players and then there is the youth. We have ridiculous amount. Cups should be playing 16,17 and 18 years olds. Get them the experience in playing full on professional football. We have at least 5 cups games where we should be doing this.

In all seriousness, given we get advances from Macquarie for future transfer fees owed I can't see how we take players as down payment when the time comes to pay us the yearly installment. Imagine packaging up Wes Burns to send in the post to Macquarie, they'd be delighted.
