The "do they mean us?" thread

Never really understood why so many teams' fans are so bitter about our administration. We weren't the only team ever to go into admin under the old rules, we didn't profit from it any more than others just because we were the last to go under before the rules changed. We'd still have gone up after a 10 point deduction anyway.

Ok if suppliers and partners didn't get paid then that's poor, but that's business, it happens.

Maybe I misunderstood the situation as I was only 11 at the time. Is it because we voluntarily went under as it was an easier way of clearing the decks?

No, that was the decision of the judge.

Now, as for Ipswich....

Because of the false reporting from the red tops, we were painted as a team that didn't even attempt to rectify the situation by selling players or even try to avoid administration.

The fact that it was the last resort available to secure the future of the club seems ignored. So does the fact that we were forced to that point by Eric Hall and his winding up petition, and the fact we sold about £15m worth of players and accepted offers for anyone else (Muzzy bud from Boro). Plus the fact that after we went into administration. It was the administrators who decided that us getting promotion was in the best interests of the creditors as they could get more money. So the administrators chose not to have a fire sale when they could have to raise short terms funds.

To this day, idiots form other teams think we got the new ground for free.

If we got our ground for free I don't know why we let the stadium debt hang over us for so long....

They are all reading from the same sheet. I understand some of the complaints but it really was a last resort when Eric Hall got involved. Micky Adams' book details it well.

The Checkatrade Trophy launched at the beginning of last season.

Sunderland were in the Premier League, and so entered their academy team, like we did.

Next season they'll be able to enter their first team instead.

Every cloud etc.......

We officially chucked the towel in yesterday, it's theirs.

:surrender:

They've got Bournemouth and Brighton at home quite soon, and feel they only need 6 points to claim the position.

They may lose one of them, but hoping that they fail to get any points out of them in particularly seems very unlikely..

They’re right. Fact is they have a manager who wants to get into Europe instead of one who tries to avoid it because it might mean he loses his job next season if there is a downturn in the league form as a result. Puel is happy for us to finish eighth but win nothing for his own sake. His record in the latter stages of the cups and the league when 7th is a possibility proves it.

Not surprised.

We struggle to break teams down who sit in, which is what Burnley will do. Mahrez will lose interest once he's consistently fouled. They don't concede many goals.

Newcastle didn't even have to foul him for him to lose interest yesterday

It doesn’t “prove” a thing.  This is your interpretation of all of two seasons’ results, one of which isn’t complete.

What he did at So’ton was a minor miracle with the players he had.  Here, we have underachieved.  But -- as judged in recent match threads by the FT collective brain -- he’s lately starting near optimum sides (except at CB), which are trending MORE toward speed and attacking quality.  He does not look like a satisfied man on the rouchline.  The playing style is more possession based and less incisive, but that is first principles for Puel.  It will not change while he is here.

To judge that he is sabotaging this year to lower the bar for next, is your way of fitting the results to an agenda.  You are not inside the man’s mind.  And given how comfortable the owners are with cycling through managers, one focused on his own safety would look to now, not next year.

My theory is that he sold himself to Rudkin by outlining a rebuilding program based on a change of style, and that he’s pushed it too far too fast, especially given this squad.  Not “provable” either.

If he can’t get a side with Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez above one with Ashley Barnes and Johan Berg Gudmondson it’s either incompetence or sabotage. Either way he should be binned.

Credit where it's due, you've done well to stick to your head that far up your arse. What a ridiculous post.

I actually think our best chance of getting 3 points will be at home to Chelsea.

The rearranged game is just 3 days before Chelsea's FA Cup semi-final against Southampton, so I wonder how many of their players will be going flat out on a probably cold/wet/windy Thursday night in Burnley. Also, Chelsea have little chance of 4th, so avoiding injury for the FA Cup tie will be their priority.

That's what I'm hoping anyway. We've only 2 away games left...Stoke and Arsenal. I'm hoping for 3 points at Stoke.
