Knockaert leaving in June - Signed for Standard Liège

Recommended Posts

i don't get why people are still so arsed about what he might have meant in an interview. have none of you watched him play for us for the last nearly 3 years? there's no way you can have seen him play and tell me he didn't give a shit about the club and just wanted to play quite well and leave as soon as an offer came in. bollocks to that.

You do know it's possible to give your all in a job but still wish to move on at some point.

Its just strange to me, an ex fan and Pearson favourite, seem to have died a "football death of No confidence" so quickly.

Amongst all speculation, that pace was given as one of the reasons.

I havent been able to follow the squad's periphery ups or down and problems this season, like last so there maybe things that

just havent come over.

How about this... was offered a contract in the summer along with every other player and chose not to sign it, thinking he was going to do something in the premier and get himself a nice move away (see article). Manager decided he wasn't going to put his faith in someone who had shown his lack of commitment by not wanting to sign a contract in the summer along with everyone else.

That, is more than possible. It's also possible the manager thought other players offered a) an attacking threat and b) defensive cover. For all of Schlupps faults he has the physical attributes to contribute at both ends of the pitch. Someone gets in behind him and he can track back and catch them... that cannot be said of Knockaert.

Yep and that's fine. He gives his all, that's obvious. So back to my original point; why are people still crying about a mistranslated interview a year ago where he may or may not have hinted he wanted better in his career than a relegation scrap being viewed from the bench or the stand?

He can say what he wants to who he wants (anyone can) as long as when it hits 2pm and his name's on the teamsheet he will die for our team. And he's one of a handful who have shown they would do that in the past 15 years or so. I'd much rather his interview made him look like a mercenary but his performances said otherwise than he was talking the talk and turning in half arsed uninterested performances like many before him.

Not gonna claim to be in the know or try and look big thinking I know what's happened and get rep points, just gonna wish him all the best in his career if and when he moves on

Regardless of your opinion concerning whether or not Knockaert is a 'premier league player', theres no true Leicester fan out there who could honestly say that he wouldn't be missed.

Even though some of his skill was absolutely outrageous, he was the type of footballer I could relate to, he didn't care where he played on the pitch he just wanted to be playing football.

I used to love watching him warm up and him looking At Nige for the entire warm up like an 8 year old begging the coach to let him on!

I hope he does well in Belgium because he deserves to be playing. Pearson usually gets decisions right regarding players (Danns, Mills, Beckford(?) etc.) but I don't think he's got this one right. He's treated him poorly from the outside looking in, and for someone who gave us memories such as Huddersfields flick, Forest's last minute winner and Watford (the positive memory that is) he's been treated like he doesn't matter.

Cheers Knocky - you're a hero. :scarf:

As I've said before it's less Knockaert himself that was brilliant but more the way he symbolised a new Leicester when he signed.

After years of watching Maybury, Tiatto, Sylla and the like bumbling up and down the wing we actually had a bit of flair in the side.

Can't say I'll miss him because I've not seen him play live since August - he's already gone as far as I'm concerned. I do wish he's been given more of a chance when we were struggling though.

At the end of the day, regardless of your opinion of his talent/lack of pace etc, he played a key role in getting Leicester City back into the Premiership, in one of our most successful ever teams. Not only that, he worked his bloody little socks off and was absolutely brilliant to watch most weeks, scoring some of the most audacious and talented goals Leicester fans have ever seen.

Real shame it hasn't worked out for him this year as he's become a bit of a cult hero, with his singing, celebrations, skills and horse-head dancing! Probably best for him moving to Belgium, will be a big fish in a small pond and closer to home.

He won't necessarily be missed in the current squad, but anyone who says they want Anthony Knockaert out of the club is lying, given 150% for us every time he's stepped out onto the pitch.

Thanks Knocky! :knockyhat:  :appl:

IMO - he was disrespectful saying we was a stepping stone to a bigger club! He thinks he deserves something! He is not bigger than the club / team! The team we currently have, are now gelled together they know what each of them bring. I wouldn't bring him back in. I wish him the best but I'm not sorry or sad if he goes and let's not forget WE offered him a contract but he said NO

  • 3 weeks later...

Why was he not on the pitch at the end?,very disappointing we could not say goodbye at the end

Said his goodbyes and left last week. All of the team went to the casino in London tonight and are flying out to Thailand on Tuesday. Knocky cleared his locker on Thursday and left.

Been largely non existant this season, considering he was one of our 'shining lights' in the Championship. What are the reasons for this?

Not enough of a 90min 'team player'?

Poor in training?

Bad attitude?

Simply not as good as the competition?

I've had the privelidge of meeting this guy, and he comes across as a very level headed young chap who genuinely wants to do well with the club. Whether that persona is reflected in his training workrate or not I don't know, but he hardly seemed to be the arrogant/cocky young frenchman I even thought he might be.

He's out of contract, but the papers suggest Pearson would like him to stay (although Pearson also said that about Danns and Beckford), but will he? should he?

Thoughts?
