Vardy and England

We must be the only International side in the World to not play our best striker.

Hodgson hasn't got a clue anyway. Should never have got the job. When we get knocked out of Euro 2016 there might be a change in the whole England squad.

You just know if Vardy has a dip in form come the end of the season, Roy will start with the 'trusted' Rooney or Kane no matter what form they're in.

It is the England way lol... Scholes retired from international football because of it

I know.

Kane can do no wrong. I swear Hodgson actually loves him. No doubt Hodgson will be at White Hart Lane again this afternoon.

To be fair there are no other premier league games today - I'd expect him to be at at least 1 game every Sunday and no doubt he'll be at the KP next Saturday.

Interesting discussion on 5Live earlier with Ian Wright and Jermaine Jenas on why Arsenal and England get so many injuries.

They both share the same training ground and Jenas said that whenever he went on England training that the training pitch at Arsenal (which England also use) was so hard that his muscles just used to ache and felt like they'd been pounded afterwards in a way it just didn't when he was doing his regular club training at Newcastle or Spurs and Ian Wright said that Rio Ferdinand had basically said the same thing.

Basically why everyone keeps getting injured when they off to play for England and why Arsenal's squad is constantly injured.

May have held true but England now train at St George's Park.

Same physio team though right? Gary Lewin et al.

Leicester keep the ground compound(dome thing to do with hardness I believe) at a certain level.. ALL training ground pitches are the same AND King Power.

We never have injuries..(touch wood)...

I'm not disappointed that Vardy didn't play for England during this last international break, aside from the injury issues, I don't think it would have done him any good.

We all know what Vardy brings to LCFC and our style of play has been developed around his strengths - pace, power, high pressing. Early balls through for him to chase on to are a large part of City's strategy and we all know how he can wreak havoc in the opposition's defence when put through in a one on one foot race.

England do not play that way. England like to gain possession, and build more gradually through the midfield before slipping attackers through or crossing from the wide areas should they be forced out wide. Hodgson wants to play in a manner that suits Sturridge or Welbeck or Kane and models his build up play to cater for their predatory, in the box qualities.

Continuing to play like this with Vardy down the centre will not be playing to his strengths. Opportunities will be lost when the defence and midfield hang too long onto the ball and frustration could set in, possibly damaging Vardy's confidence in the process.

It's great that he is being considered as England's main man for the Euros 2016, but don't make him look a fool by ignoring his strengths. It would be a bit like entering a champion racehorse into a dressage event.

Do you think Hodgson will change the way England play to suit Vardy, force Vardy to fit into the way England play or choose players more suited to the way England play? I think that so far Hodgson has succumbed to national press pressure to put Vardy in the squad, but will remain resolute in what he asks the team to do, leaving him on the sidelines for when they are desperate and need an impact sub.

We could win the league vardy gets 40+ goals and hodgson would still rather play someone else up front. This is one of many reasons I tend not to watch england anymore.

See the papers have started to dig the dirt on Vardy

What's fecking wrong with the English press a fantastic story comes along and now they want to ruin him !

His dad and mum spoke to press today about a family feud that's left himcut off from his parents.

All sounds unsavoury but surely it's no ones business only the Vardy family's business ?

They are now digging up tag wearing stories for a conviction , I'm sure now the guy he beat up will get a two page spread in the sun "how Vardy gave me 11 out of 11 smacks"

His missus surely tweeting about today's story doesn't lessen the pain of being spilt form your parents , very sad story really.

It was the sort of article which explains why "celebs" and people in the public don't like the media.

Quite what his parents (and grandparents) falling out over his fiancé has to do with Vardy's football ability is anyone guess.

Probably written by somebody who doesn't like him or footballers generally (Sun had something about Gerrard and a fight from years ago yesterday on thefront page)...

The sun/mail sports coverage lives on the premier league

But both papers main news editors love to boot footballers in balls as despicable rich yokes !

Footballers come from a wide range of perfect Normal families and Normal families fall out at times it's called living !

Feel sorry for Jamie and his family hope they can patch it up as life is too short !

I know he's not popular on here but if Vardy and Kane keep up their form until May how good will it be to see them together for England at the Euro's. But this will obviously not happen...

Newspapers are full of shit half the time on the sports pages we have a system in place in the press that would rather get a story about a footballers private life than concentrate on the footballing achievements that is one reason why England never do well in tournaments the press would rather destroy the players reputation rather than support the team 100% and back them with pride !!

It's a real fooked up industry the press!! ;)

For an American perspective. The first I notice is that there is nothing Brits like more than killing their heroes. A close second is blaming your political opponents for everything.
