Chilwell

We have had plenty of the next best things in fullbacks here over the last few years, Sheehan,Mattock,Mcgivern,Gilbert,Cunningham who have failed to progress. Certainly a few thought they were a lot better than they actually were and the premier league is unforgiving when you make mistakes, he needs to go out and learn his trade let him make his mistakes elsewhere but he needs to be playing at a decent level, see if Preston need a left back.

McGivern was never the next best things in anything other than looking like a duck.

Can't see us selling unless we have to for some contractual reason

The only problem for Chilwell is that he has a left-back of genuine international quality in Fuchs ahead of him. He would stand a chance if one of the big boys came in for Fuchs, but I think we'd all see that as a huge setback for the club, comparable with selling Vardy, Mahrez or Kanté.

Unfortunately, it's very possible that Chilwell will have more of a chance of displacing Monreal and Gibbs than he does of getting ahead of Fuchs.

Dont talk soft, he has more chance here as fuchs is ageing and will be getting worse.

Fuchs is 30 and not going to get any better. If Chilwell sees him too much of an obstacle then he's in for a shock if he goes to a bigger club. The likes of Arsenal are just as likely to buy another world class left back to replace Monreal than give Chillwell a chance.

I would advise him to stay here and try and develop his career. I would never recommend a up and coming young player going to a club like Arsenal or Chelsea unless they truly believe they'll be world class. The likely scenario is he spends the next four season there going out on loan only to end up being sold to a Championship club as surplus to requirements at 22/23 years of age.

From what I've seen of Chilwell in this season's League Cup is that he looked a solid defender but offered little going forward, a bit like Danny Simpson. If we were to get £4m for him then it might look like good business in the future but I'd prefer him to stay in familiar surroundings and develop here, CR loves giving young players a chance and he'd get plenty of games if we're in Europe next season.

Wont be the last youth player to leave us at a young age for a fashionable club.

He could end up at Rotherham in a few years.

Chase the story they link from and it all comes down to speculation.  The Metro claims Arsenal are set to complete the deal but it links a story from the Dailystar who claim Arsenal are confident of beating Chelsea and Liverpool linking a story from The sun that Wenger is ready to make an offer.

I know players don't want to be sitting on the bench but he surely can't expect to be starting in front of Fuchs?  He's a young lad and has a lot to learn so Fuchs could be a good teacher but he will have to be patient.  I can't see any scenario where going to a club bigger than us would further his career, unless he is first team prem material.  He is no where near as good as Monreal, Gibbs, Rose, Davies, Moreno, maybe he would be first choice over Jose Enrique.  Arsenal still have Jenkinson on loan at West Ham, they have made 2m per season loan fees from West Ham and Wenger seems to rate him highly.

If he wants to go let him, good luck and hope it works out.  If he stays he can grow and hopefully become a first team regular and replace Fuchs by the time he's 20.

If he goes he should realise if he cant walk into our team he certainly is not going to walk into Arsenals, they will just loan him out and he will probably do a lot of bench warming with the occasional cup game.

Not sure of his wages or contract length and see this as an attempt to get an improved contract, hopefully even with the confidence of youth he doesn't think he is anywhere close to replacing Fuchs. He has plenty to learn and standing out on loan in the championship hopefully is how he sees his career progressing. The guy has a career ahead of him hopefully he understands he needs to walk before he runs.

I've never felt that he wants to stay here and if he isn't an attacking full-back I don't see why we'd not sell him on. We have two excellent defensive full-backs as it is - and with a little bit of cover.  What we don't have is a Patrice Evra type. And that's what we do need.

we need to keep him for next season if we qualify for europe as the 25 man european squad needs to have 4 home grown players in it, we currently only have King, Schlupp and Moore.

Not to have a go or that but, are you on crack? Only 3 homegrown players? So what about Vardy,Albrighton,Drinkwater,James,Simpson,Kasper and as far as I'm aware Huth....??!!

I think we are fine in that regard bud.....

You need 4 players in the squad that have come through your own youth system.

Although I would argue that we'd just stick Dodoo into the squad, if he isn't out on loan next season.

I think the big question I need to ask here is how did we let a player of obvious talent lapse into the final six months of his contract? Extremely poor IMO.

It's not 4 but 8 and they don't have to be through our OWN youth system. They just have to be a locally trained player and that can either be club trained or association trained for the purposes of the UEFA rule.

So basically as long as they came through the youth system of a club associated with the FA, they qualify.

You have had a mare there mate. Utter rubbish your talking. They don't  have to come through your own youth system.
