Fox92 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 This is modern football I'm afraid, we won't ever be able to compete with the big bucks of Arsenal etc off the field, and nor should we try. We have proved this season that just buying readymade talent is not always effective, there is plenty of talent out there that could step into vardy so shoes and we have a decent scouting team that will hopefully find them. I'm not so sure this a great move for Vardy, from a footballing perspective but he may feel the team here has peaked and in all honesty he is most likely right. We have a team that is full of mostly players in or around their prime, we now need to build the next generation. No it's not modern football, it's just football. Arsenal are a much bigger club than Leicester. FFS why does this have to be about money. Think about it, any player has got more chance of winning trophies at Arsenal.
dbtcity Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 The only thing I can think that makes any sense regarding his low release clause is... He wanted out in Jan when the big clubs came sniffing and we convinced him to see out the season by agreeing to give him a new contract with said release clause inserted
Foxhateram Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I find it so sad that people are turning on our players because they might leave. If they decide to go then fair enough, they have made all our dreams come true last season. I will always hold this generation of players as Golden. If vardy goes to Arsenal i will be disappointed for sure, but he desrves more respect than being booed or jeered if he does decide to firther his career. You have to remember he is 29 so only has few more years of top of the table, top flight in him, so this a huge decision and time for him.
Lesteban Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Can anyone name a better time for us to lose a player like Vardy? Through sale, age or injury we are always going to lose him in the next 4 years ish. But we are never going to be in a better position to replace him.

They've just won us the top flight.

HighPeakFox Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 It hasn't come from Sky, it came from a reputable journo. An oxymoron, if ever there were :-)

fox_favourite Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 One things for sure, IF he does go, we are in a good position to find the next Vardy with the talent of Walsh in our backroom staff.

st albans fox Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 We aren't impotent, release clauses have been totally ignored in the past with no repercussions aside from pissed off players (see John Henry taking about Suarez to Arsenal).https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/mar/02/liverpool-john-henry-luis-suarez-clause And after that incident, you don't think that some clever solicitors redrafted release clauses so that were legally enforceable? besides, you have no idea if Suarez wanted to move to arsenal. barca may have told his agent that they would be coming next summer.
Bert Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 After the season we've had its more disappointing than anything. Would never begrudge anyone a move, especially if they don't want to be here. No one is bigger than the club. The transfer fee is a huge kick in the teeth too he's worth easily double that.
lgfualol Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I said in the 'transfers you would like' thread that we should go for Giroud, thinking him and Vardy could be awesome together... But not like this... Not like this So it's your fault eh
Dames Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I would say that most of the frustration and hate is justified especially when he's going on TV saying he wants to stay and when he signed his new deal on about how he owes the club everything. Then he sends his agent to try and get him a better deal elsewhere. We always knew he wasn't the most decent human being really but looked passed it but this just proves it.
StanSP Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 haven't we won more silverware than Arsenal in the last 10 years, regardless of what trophies the are?
FoxyPalace.com Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 We do not want to lose him but we only paid 1 Million for him. £23 Million for a striker who is 29 with pace as his main asset. Good deal for us I would say. I trust the club to invest and scout another like we have done so many time before. Thanks Jamie for the memories.
Lesteban Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 And after that incident, you don't think that some clever solicitors redrafted release clauses so that were legally enforceable? besides, you have no idea if Suarez wanted to move to arsenal. barca may have told his agent that they would be coming next summer. Didn't he go on effectively strike to try and force the move through? But anyway, I don't think we will turn it down. We either match the contact offer, or he goes.
Jace Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 We always knew he wasn't the most decent human being really but looked passed it but this just proves it. Shut up, please seriously.

How can you suggest otherwise. They are one of the biggest names in the World, look at their squad it's filled with players who have consistently represented their Country at the highest level. You rekon Ozil and Sanchez would join Leicester City?
HankMarvin Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 He will be gone, realistically the bloke showed shades of his personality by cutting all ties with his stepfather who raised him and his mother when they objected to his relationship with his now wife. If you can do that over a woman, I'm sure you can do it to club that not so long ago you was gonna retire from football from, Football is a very fickle sport, If he can earn and extra 10m over 4 years from Arsenal good luck to him

RowlattsFox Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Hard to dislike anyone even if they leave but I'd definitely lose a bit of respect for him. I prepared myself for Kante and Mahrez yo potentially leave but always thought Vardy would stay, perhaps naively. It just shows that no matter what you do, even if you win the league the 'bigger' clubs will still poach your players.
Fox92 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 haven't we won more silverware than Arsenal in the last 10 years, regardless of what trophies the are? Football has been around longer than 10 years.
Guest ttfn Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 haven't we won more silverware than Arsenal in the last 10 years, regardless of what trophies the are? Andy King has won more trophies in the last 10 years than Arsenal.
