foxes161 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 why do these guys even have release clauses? poor for the club to even agree to them
shade Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Really? Don't forget that he will also bag a stonking signing on fee that reflects his true worth. I reckon at least 10 million. yeah, jamie isn't that interested in money, he's got a nice house, wife and little daughter and he's playing football for the champions and England. him, kante and riyad will be firing us to the champions league final.
davieG Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 why do these guys even have release clauses? poor for the club to even agree to them Because the player (agent) insists on them and it reflects their state of mind when signing. They may not feel this is as high as they can go They may worry about acclimatising to the location or the travel They may not fit into the team The manager could change The owners could change. The fans could end up hating them for the silliest of reasons (plenty had it in for Drinky in the 'cupping ear' incident) Football is very volatile anything can happen and does so players may feel they need a get out route clubs will obviously be aiming for a high figure the player as low as possible, the y end up with a compromise.
Fox92 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 So what if it is? Our scouting system are more than capable of getting in players that are just as good. We're talking about a team that found Mahrez for 400k, Kante for £5.5mill, Vardy for a million etc.# Southampton have had their team wripped apart for the last two seasons but every time they've found better players and actually gradually improved. Raneiri isn't an idiot.

Blanesta Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 It would be funny if Arsenal pinched our best players and still didn't win the league!
leicesterseddon Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 why do these guys even have release clauses? poor for the club to even agree to them Agents insist on them because it gives them leverage in wage negotiations. As for the club agreeing to them - well, maybe they could have pushed back harder but at the end of the day they don't have all the power. I think it may be slowly dawning on people that our ability to "offer Champions League football" next year is not a cast-iron guarantee that our players won't move to bigger and more established clubs - especially if, like Arsenal, they have themselves qualified too. We'll have to see whether Vardy (and others) go over the summer, but as others have said - we should have confidence in our ability to replace them. The only cast-iron guarantee for the club to keep the current squad would be to obstinately refuse to sell any player that wishes to leave. But as Ranieri has said, he doesn't want to do that and I think he's right.
Dames Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Slightly worried that this is going to have a domino effect now. Was hoping the squad would stay together for at least one more season for a crack at the Champions League. I reckon Mahrez is the most likely to stay now and honestly he was probably the most replaceable of the Vardy/Mahrez/Kante.
TJB-fox Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 No one wants them to leave some of us are more realistic and have been here before and accept that players will do what they believe is best for them and their career and in their eyes that could be moving on. You can get all uptight, pissy arsed, angry and emotional but it wont change anything. Read my comments in Vardy T talk thread. Football is a game of emotion sorry for venting my thoughts/anger
holyfox Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I've read all kinds of reaction to the release-clause activating by Arsenal. Seems to me that people have been in two camps all season - the 'we've done it, now time to get back into our place' and the 'why can't we go on to better things' factions. In life you can choose to be what other people expect you to be or you can aspire to be what you want to be. Vardy's head and his heart are probably in two different places - which is not good for him. An 'aspiring' wife and the prospect of cash and greater acknowledgement might be turning his head but, from what he has expressed, he feels he as a debt of allegiance to City. He also should be aware of certain possibilities available to him within the City team - to challenge for Champion's League glory and to cement his name as one of the City 'Greats' - not a Lineker, Smith or Heskey 'Great' but a Chandler, Cross, Black and Wallington type of 'Great'. He's arrived late as it were, yet alighted on the right train. Two more seasons at City would set him up for life - in financial and reputation terms. If he goes to Arsenal then he's merely a stop-gap. He's not an Arsenal or Arsene type and I wonder if he'll be able to adapt to being in the London atmosphere. I think he's emotionally vulnerable - witness the spat with his family and his on-field reaction to opposition and authority. I think he's potentially being used to quiet the unrest at the Emirates but the majority of real Gooners will turn their noses up at him. I hope he follows his heart and doesn't listen to all the clamour of those seeking to ride on the coat tails of his good fortune. Howyever he isn't quite indispensible. One post on this thread even mentioned the stadium in negative terms! It's really evident that a number of supporters are compromised by their immense emotional commitment to the club. True Leicester supporters, like any true supporter, are in it for life. Thus it's hard to see the Club spurned or belittled without reacting. Some can't make the adjustment to this Leicester - hugely successful, comparitively wealthy, run by committed and relatively ego-free owners. At the moment City are a club which can remain competitive in these stratospheric levels. The nucleus of what is a great team is, as yet, intact, with some interesting players on the horizon. I'm not sure that there will be a run for the exit if Vardy goes. Ranieri appears to have nailed his colours to the mast, the Sris aren't going anywhere, there is money, there is a superb training, medical and recruitment system and a general world-wide love for the Club I see a level, composed head in Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and a huge enthusiasm in his son - and both qualities in Claudio. It's a hard boat to rock at the moment. We don't need necessarily to be one of the big clubs. Their model has failed anyway - vast sums expended for precious little result - perhaps money is the root of their particular evil. The places at the top of the pyramid aren't sacrosanct either - Chelsea and Manchester City were plucked from relative obscurity by money. Newcastle, Spurs and Everton were once dominant forces overtaken by the circumstances that are ever waiting to influence the cyclical nature of football. There is opportunity for Leicester to establish themselves as a team consistently able to compete at the highest level without having to become a 'big' club. No-one can be criticised for reacting to this development negatively - it's because it's important to us. But, if he does go, then there will be life after him. This 100%! What we have is not about one player or another, it's about the unique chemistry, from our owners, the humble ethos and dignity of everything associated with the club and the best fans in the world, a city that is United as one... We will move on whatever happens, with whoever we have in the squad, in Ranieri and Walshy we trust. Thanks to those who move on, but even more support for those who take us into this new Era! #foreverfearless
blue army 1988 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I'm pretty confident Vardy will not be leaving Leicester this season.

Raneiri isn't an idiot. I think the Southampton thing is a good point but it is worth noting that Southampton have got exceptionally good prices for lots of their players though -Schneiderlin £28 million, Lallana £25 million, Shaw £30 million, Lovren £20 million. These are all guys who were playing in a side finishing 7th or 8th- there's a risk that we will lose two of the best players in a title winning team for £40 million if Kante's release clause is activated as well.
theessexfox Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 This is what happens when you don't offer Konchesky a new contract - the domino effect ensues
FoxPride Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 As Raneri said himself, he only wants players who want to be at the club to play. He only wants happy players. So if Jamie wants to leave then let him, you want to keep a happy bunch of players. You can get a replacement striker in, we offer champions league football. Just let people who don't want to be here leave, including Chillwell or anyone else. You've got to want to fight for the team. I am still unsure whether this is a ploy to get Arsenal to sign Morata - but either way would be a great signing for them making them very dangerous next year.
m4DD0gg Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Trickle down bangy is what its called. First Vardy......Mahrez and Kante see this and jump on board. Second players like drinkwater and kasper will be sounding out for moves. No wonder we bought a decent keeper in. Welcome to the premier league where if you aint manu, chelsea, mancity, arsenal or liverpool you are a feeder club. LCFC - Leicester City Feeder Club
adam Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 My concern is that all our potential transfers will see us selling our best players and have second thoughts. Once vardy goes they will all be off.
fuchsntf Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Lets see what Ranieri and even our owners can offer for arguments and motivation ( not just money) to keep our named players...lets see if they want to complete the STORY. A Cloughie bit of inspiration would go down well, mixed with Ranieri innovation and nous.
Vlad the Fox Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Remember the summer after we lost to Watford and that agent was saying he could get any of our players out the club. How many went? None. Transfer window creates a shitstorm of bullshit and rumours fed from rumours, sure clubs may have asked about our players, we may have told them where to go, we are negotiating contracts. But there's so much contradictory crap going on, if all these so called reliable sources are right some of our players are going to be playing for two, three teams next season. There's too many people desperate to be an ITK, who know very little. Whatever happens we will be fine.

Kendal Fox Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 If Vardy goes, we'll have to accept it and move on but at the same time, I would be very shocked if he did. There's a few reasons - Arsenal surely are the antithesis of us with their diva behaviour and negativity when the going gets tough, in fact, they are surely the epitome of the reason the so called "big boys" have been failing at the elite level of the PL, no? So why would Vardy want to go from the atmosphere of trust and solidarity, as well as being the defending PL champs and automatic CL competitors, to one of almost certain toxicity and probably consistent bench time? Are a slight increase in wages really worth that? Another reason, and I know it was well and truly pontificated over at the time, but Jon Moss almost certainly denied Vardy the golden boot (and could have denied us the title had we had the same mental fragility as Arsenal or Spurs). You get the feeling - seeing as he missed virtually 3 matches, but immediately scored vs Everton and almost had a hat-trick - that he would have bagged the best part of 30 goals. As great as his season was for us, there was another 8 - 10% taken away from the most important and thrilling part. Knowing the way we play suits him the best, and because of that brief dark cloud, I feel he will want to try and pull out all the stops on his way to his highest goal tally yet. He is only going to be able to achieve that playing for us.Also, this movie about him? Not saying it will be first thing on his mind, but surely he will be getting some kind of revenue, endorsements, etc? Wouldn't it have a huge impact (for the worst) on the film and subsequent release? Audiences wouldn't be able to sit through it without laughing or cringing knowing that he immediately jumped ship to another club straight after the fairy tale ending!!?I just won't accept that money will make up for all these things.
bluebeau Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 At this moment in time, I believe that Jamie hasn't spoken to Arsenal. An approach has been made to City & Arsenal are interested in JV because they have found out the there is a release clause of £20m in his contract. If they do activate that & JV wants the move, then City can't stop it happening unless they can persuade him to stay. He has only recently signed a new & improved contract at City which I think is rumoured to be £80k per week? Arsenal could virtually double that & if they did, then money talks in any profession & who could blame him for moving? OK I don't think he would find he would be as loved at Arsenal as he is at City, I doubt if he would find the same team spirit & comradeship, he wouldn't get gravy on his chips & imo he wouldn't be automatic choice in the team like he is at City. So if the offer is made, it is entirely up to him. Does he want to remain at City where he is very happy & on a fantastic weekly wage, with a great club that is only going to get better or does he risk all of that & move to unseen circumstances? He should also consider that the upcoming season will probably be Arsen Verger's last & a new manager coming in may not 'fancy' him? I hope he remains with us!
rmahrez Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Apparently deal agreed according to this guy, plenty of followers.
