I'd rather my club splashed the cash to get players in fast and do a Chelsea or a Man City as opposed to a Southampton or a Stoke to be honest, it's the 27th August so unless we take the above approach then we are most likely going into the post transfer window empty handed.

We aren't Chelsea or Man City. You're deluded.

I didn't include them in my thoughts based on the situation and timing of the post.

A Premier League trophy says otherwise, we've certainly got the potential to be.

Still miles behind them most would still opt for them over us. Kante is living proof. Also our club don't have the sod the cost attitude.

I'd say we are two or three successful seasons behind them which is why I said we had the potential to be. They say money can't buy happiness but it can certainly buy success and in this era of football it is the only way to sustain success in a long term sense.

A premier league trophy doesn't make us them. They have owners that are one of a handful on the globe who pump in more money than the gdp of a small country.

You cannot expect to compete with them long term, that big 6-7 just need a decent manager and they are on another level to us.

We will aim for natural growth over the long term. The first step is being seen on a level with Villa, Everton, West Ham, Newcastle.

Despite their failings on the pitch in recent years, we're not even viewed at that level. We're nothing more than a Norwich to most people.

How big can we get? I don't know, but it takes decades to get there without a few billion quid.

But still like I said our club don't have the sod the cost attitude. We also can't generate the same income they can.

You're right about the club's financial attitude but I do believe that sustained success generates a steadily building income. I personally don't see Chelsea as a historically big club, before Abramovich came along they were no bigger then West Ham. 14 years later they are one of the most famous clubs in world football. I'd never met a single Chelsea fan up until about eight or nine years ago and now I see people wearing Chelsea shirts on a daily basis, that's growth for you and it wouldn't have happened without success. For sustained success you need to spend money in this day and age unfortunately.

I can agree with that and that is the sad state of football nowadays. An owners net worth doesn't necessarily dictate how much they will invest in a football clubs transfer budget though. A multi millionaire might invest more in his club then a multi billionaire invests in his club for example.

the problem today is that back in their day, Chelsea weren't restricted in what they spent on wages etc. By the time FFP was introduced the restrictions on them had little impact as their wage bill was already high. We are restricted in how much we can increase overall wages year on year and spending is also related to income. It will take us many years off success  to match Chelsea in terms of income and to get to a level where we can spend the same on wages. It stands to reason if you pay top dollar for a player, you will have to pay top dollar wages so we can't simply just go out and blow £30-£40m on a player even if we wanted to without making cuts elsewhere or operating with a smaller squad.

I see you chose to selectively ignore the rest of my post then. Nice.

transfers don't happen overnight, Chelsea and City get who they want by paying completely over the odds very quickly (aside from Kante!)

As a club we can't do that just yet because we don't have the finances coming in compared to those big clubs, so it wouldn't be sustainable. As for empty handed, we've picked up Musa Hernandez Zieler Mendy Kaputska and I think strengthening the squad like so will only prove its worth over time. Yes I hope we sign a few players to really really improve our first Xl but were Leicester, you can't expect the owners to go out and spend hundreds of millions of players after one good season

Quite right ...    And I think we are doing quite nicely and steadily improving.

Question ...    When has this club ever been in better shape ?    Never,  imo.

I'm sure Iheard someone on the telly saying that technically Chelsea owe Abramovich 2 billion pounds. 2 billion quid!!

Ridiculous! Leicester could never expect that sort of commitment.

Edit: Just found an article that quotes $1.6B, even so....

Some strange views from people on here! Not sure why people would look down their noses at WBA, and also fail to understand that the rest of the footballing world doesn't necessarily see us as we see ourselves. Baggies ain't so different to us. Yes we had a wonderful season just gone. And we have CL football. But for players and agents money talks. We just don't know the level of interest being shown from us. WBA and Pulis might be all over him, like Nige was with Cambiasso.
