Feels like a panic buy to me. We've already seen how loose we look without Shinji. Leo is as good a rotation player you're going to get without moaning constantly and Musa at £16 is barely getting a look in and surely can't be considered a long term winger given the shift Albrighton puts in.

Can only assume Leo is off which is gutting and loses us a certain type of player we lack.

WTF panic buy? We've been after him for ages.

With the amount of games we have I'd say we need another striker. It's not about pushing Leo out the door, it's about upgrading on what you have and providing more options.

People call for signings constantly and then moan when we get someone in because other players will miss out or be off. Leo does a job for us as a sub but this guy might be a starter, a world beater, who knows?

Don't necessarily think it's a priority position but if it makes us stronger and the owners are happy to pay it then why not. I'd be disappointed if we don't get a right back or a centre mid though

We have been linked with this guy for about three consecutive transfer windows so I doubt it's a panic buy.

Your feeling is wrong.

We've been trailing this guy for around 2 years.

Lim not saying we haven't done our scouting. I'm saying we don't need him and seem to be buying him (at a very high price) to stop others getting him, and after a poorish start to the season (given this would've been sorted before 3pm today).

We do need players better than our existing players to keep pushing forward......he is better than we have and is top quality....personally I really hope we get him as he will be perfect with Vardy and strengthens the starting 11...,,

Yeah wtf great. Do we need him? Why didn't we buy him previously? I know he's been mentioned loads before, especially on here, but why pull the trigger now? Why bid so much more than another bid that's already been accepted (reportedly)? The squad is getting too big for me and I get the feeling we're buying him more to prevent rivals getting him rather than enhancing our own squad. If I'm allowed to that is :)

Right now we have a 23 players with squad numbers. Three of them are under 21. Mendy, Schmeichel, and Schlupp are injured. James isn't fit, and has been playing with Kapustka with the U23's. I think everyone is aware of injuries (Vardy's just had wrist surgery, FFS) and general fatigue problems, so having a few spares around is not a bad idea. Ulloa might be able to go somewhere else, but there is no such thing as guaranteed playing time, and this might be his only chance to appear in a Champions League match. I think the idea of shipping Ulloa out is a bad one, both for the club and for him.

That being said, the club will be in a position to do some business next year, especially if any of our young players develop.

I think we need him.  We have JV and have bought cover for him in Musa, and we have Shinji and Ulloa as a double act ...   but who else ? ...   Slimani is (hopefully) an improvement on Leo and a much needed addition to our stretched squad.

would he be eligible to play for us in the champions league?

I think so because Sporting haven't had to play qualifying games but someone will clear it up.

As for the price: When more money is sloshing around, things get more expensive. Eggs cost $1 each in California during the Gold Rush, when they cost pennies everywhere else in the world. There is a lot of money in football right now, so players are going to get more expensive. And most of that money is in the Premier League, so we are going to pay more for players than someone in Serie A. Of course, he might just be going to WBA...if that's the case, they got hosed on the deal. Chumps.

I hope you're right. I've seen enough over the last 12 months to feel that it's systems and not individuals that win games (and titles) and that whilst we should always look to improve the side, it's not always that simple. To spend £25m on a player who we'll have to adjust our system for seems a crazy gamble, especially with £25m worth of strikers already sat on our bench.

I think we haven't signed him in previous windows because of the cost and because we were previously aiming to just stay in this league rather than win it and play European football. Now we have more money to play with, higher ambition and the need for a deeper squad.

Of course, he would also be playing in the African Cup, which means we lose Mahrez, Slimani, Schlupp, and Armartey for maybe a month. So getting rid of Ulloa wouldn't make sense, expecially if we had somehow worked a target man into the system.
