Captain... Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Because they see it as a way of getting the best scout in the game. Bill it as a promotion, more control, more influence etc. Just my gut feeling, but I doubt Walsh has the sort of influence he had with Nigel as he does with Ranieri. I'm sure he's still running the scouting side the same, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if his influence on other matters has decreased. I'm sure they are, but it seems like an odd way to do it, giving him some made up title where he could end up being held responsible for shit results on the pitch. He is the best in the game when it comes to recruitment, bring him in to recruit players. A typical DoF is involved in so much more, I think, I'm not really sure what a DoF is. They have probably offered him the chance oversee the complete overhaul of their recruitment system, which I don't think they particularly need it, they seem to be fairly good in the transfer market bringing in players like Delufeuo and Mirallas it was Martinez's inability to organise a back four that cost them not their recruitment.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Hahahaha fvck off, the most tragically under performing club in the league
foxes21 Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Just saying, John Percy hasn't got anything right about us in a while. Everything he has wrote about us this window, has been re-worded stories from other sources. I doubt he has any inside knowledge, so I am calling bullsh*t.
Babylon Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 In what way? I doubt he ever has that much of a say in tactics but I'm also quite sure that Ranieri never "blackballs" any signing that Walsh really wants to make. Horses for courses and whilst they may offer an opinion in each others field of expertise I'm sure they settle on Ranieri picks the team an tactics and Walsh picks the players to buy. As I said, just a gut feeling. We don't have much info to go on, so it's only formed from scraps. Walsh used to be up in the stands communicating with Pearson during games, sat with the analytics guys passing on information etc. Does he still have that input, someone who sits nearer that area might be able to say, I've not seen any shots of them doing so. The bench don't seem to be in contact as much as they were. From what I'd read also, someone somewhere said in an article the analytics stuff was just used at half time and post game now.

Clearly worked ok though, I have enough faith in Ranieri to think he can cope without Walsh. The scouting will take a hit but the team under him will have learnt a lot and we already have a great squad.

The DOF role can be whatever they want it to be. Doesn't have to be way more than he's doing now, but enough to make it feel a step up. They will want him to get players, they, he, we all know that's what they want. To get that, you might have to give something else away though. Perhaps he'd fancy overhauling youth development... who knows. If they've made contact they might know what he fancies doing.

But, if someone feels like the influence they have has deminished... someone offering more, might be appealing. I'm just speculating. Yeah the guys under him will know the ropes to do ok, but we know he has the eye for the player. To spot the Mahrez when you go to scout someone else etc.
foxes21 Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 john Percy doesn't know anything, its just guess work. Walsh is probably scouting or helping to finalise deals.
dylanlegend Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Everton seriously just FAAD. Very surprised he'd go there after turning down Arsenal
Gerard Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Everton seriously just FAAD. Very surprised he'd go there after turning down Arsenal The role at Arsenal was a step down though as he would have been working under their Head of Recruitment. This might be perceived as DOF when he controls all footballing matters and maybe even Koeman has to answer to him? It would have to be something special and a huge financial package to tempt him though as I'm sure he's very proud of his Leicester City side and sees this project as "his baby". Everton are no richer than us though and aren't really any bigger than us in today's climate so I'm sure our owners will do what's necessary to keep him, I expect to hear he's signed a new contract with increased terms in the near future.
tsintskaro Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 did not He and shakespeare sign new contracts while ago? i remember Ranieri talking about this and he said for him everything was settled and they will sign it very soon why was not it done yet anyway i dont think he will go

SW doesn't strike me as the DOF type if a DOF is what you have described above. And surely his 'scouting' talents will be wasted as DOF? Can't see it myself
lgfualol Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Why don't they take Rudkin off our hands? The whole Lukaku and Jon Stones transfer sagas would have been over ages ago with Rudkin in charge, what with the £5 million release clauses he would have given them.
foxinsocks Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 The big take over at everton was paper talk. The money paid went straight to the selling shareholders not the club.... in fact the stake purchased was gor half the club for about 90mil So the club is still poor. Why would walsh get off the leicester bus now? Here he can help build a squad to win the treble
CosbehFox Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Slightly worrying that he's been absent from Austria. Possibly gives substance to the story. Director of football could appeal to him I guess. ! Really? It probably means he's working away at signings or out with scouts. I understand he's pretty settled in Rothley
Clever Fox Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 I hope this is more bullshit but I guess that's the price of success, Other clubs chasing our best players and staff. I said it for a long time now The right Manager is worth as much as a top player and a lot of clubs are beginning to realise that. Added to that are senior staff like Walsh. I'm sure it not's all about money for him as he must be wealthy already. Sometimes you just want to see a project through to completion and I think that offers him just as much satisfaction. I don't think he'd go but the club just might have to offer him a better deal or a better title.
ARCHER Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Everton seriously just FAAD. Very surprised he'd go there after turning down Arsenal This
LCFCABC Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Worrying that this has come from John Percy. Usually very reliable
Babylon Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Worrying that this has come from John Percy. Usually very reliable To be fair, he's been pretty shit himself for a good while... used to be unquestionable.
stretch1965 Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Suprised no club have in for him before now, need to keep him
Hitesh Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 I think he will be a bigger loss to us than Kante. Think he does a lot more behind the scenes with current players than people realise and probably one of the reasons we've done so well keeping the squad together. Would be surprised if he did leave to be honest and hope the owners can convince him. Unless he has a release clause of course...
4everfox Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 From Champions of England to the Champions of nothing, yeah right. They aren't even the best team in Liverpool. Won't happen.
RoboFox Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 The hierarchy know how important he is to the club's success and will do everything they can to keep him. A DOF role is quite different to a Head Scout, it might be that he isn't interested in that side of the business. However, if it's true and Everton come calling, I'd expect the owners to be putting their hands in their pockets...
