It's a very 'Hodgson' looking eleven IMO. I expected determined and effective players would be the ones who'd get picked under Allardyce. That's not what we've got here.

It's not worth bearing in mind at all. Are you saying he's shit because of that game? Chances are limited for any England striker, it's not his fault England play awful football. Kane was nullified all tournament, why is he playing?

Vardy should have had 2 goals that night anyway, one where he went clear and hit the keeper, and another where Clyne should have squared it to him for a tap in.

I'm tired of people coming up with the excuses why Vardy shouldn't play. He's the best English striker in the world right now and not picking him is disgusting.

Vardy not belong picked I get but Henderson over Drinkwater is tough to take. Personally I'd have Drinkwater for Henderson and Alli for Rooney and that would be close to my starting 11, maybe Shaw at left back actually.

On a more serious note,  Rooney limits the team in the way that Bryan Robson did. I believe it was no coincidence that the 1990 success had a lot to do with his enforced absence.

I'm not saying that Drinky shouldn't be in the starting line up, as I think he's as good as the others. It just seems that because we watch him more than most others we disregard the fact that the others players are basically on par with him.

Good post. Agree about Noble, poor bloke. I'm not sure about the Drinky vs Henderson and other cms. I still think Drinky pips them on form. Henderson is a little negative in his play for me, always plays safe. 

 

Wilshere is a crock and is no where near fit enough (hence his lack of inclusion).

 

Alli is better out wide.

 

Dier is great at winning the ball back but his distibution and play on the ball are not so strong. 

 

Barkley I really rate and I would live to see him as the am driving at defenses with Drinky behind him to mop things up.

 

Milner is just Mr Negative.  Backwards pass everytime. 

 

Rooney is awful in midfield for the reasons already mentioned. 

 

Not sure there is much more to say. Drinky needs to be in the team on form alone.

It's no good playing a player suited to counter attacking when Slovakia are unlikely to attack. Dier was the outstanding player for England in the Euros so it's only fair he keeps his place.

Really disappointed with this team selection. I always support England even though we have been so bad recently and I was quite excited to get Big Sam as manager as I thought he would change things up and pick players on merit rather than names/which club they play for. Henderson should be nowhere near that starting 11 and we all know that Drinkwater is the best English centre mid at the moment. I honestly do not know what Drinky has to do to get picked. And one decent game for Sterling does not make up for the past 2 years where he has been rubbish. And I find it baffling that Kane starts with how shit he was in the euros.
