Dont underrate our Club at home!! take note people - it's not so normal to win away from home in Europe. i know belgium isn't far away but the intention of the experienced Claudio will be to make sure we don't lose. Of course he could well have taken an overall view of the group and decided he needs to target one away win and this is the best option. (Ie. Don't lose at Copenhagen/Porto as they will get better results against Brugge) i guess the the way we set up and how many we commit forward will reveal all. if it ends a draw, I suspect the manager will be all smiles. (In public anyway).

Club Brugge's only previous encounter with an English club in the European Cup/Champions League was in the 1978 final against Liverpool (0-1). Club Brugge are winless in their last eight games against English clubs in all competitions (D2 L6), failing to keep a clean sheet in any of those games. This is Club Brugge's fifth Champions League participation, their first since 2005/06. They have never reached the knockout stages, finishing third in their group in each of their four previous Champions League campaigns. In fact, only one Belgian club has ever reached the knockout stages of the Champions League: Gent, last season (eliminated in the Last 16). Club Brugge have only kept two clean sheets in their last 15 Champions League games. Leicester City are in the Champions League for the first time in their history. They're the first English team to make their debut in the competition since Manchester City in 2011/12. This is Leicester's first participation in European competition since the 2000/01 UEFA Cup when they were knocked out in the first round by Red Star Belgrade. This will be only Leicester's ninth game in European competition. They are winless in the last six, with their only victories coming in the preliminary round of the 1961/62 Cup Winners Cup against Glenavon (4-1 & 3-1). Club Brugge boss Michel Preud'homme won only one of his six games in his sole group stage participation as manager, it was with Twente in 2010/11. Leicester City are the sixth club managed by Claudio Ranieri in the Champions League, only Carlo Ancelotti has more (7). His best performance to date was a semi-final with Chelsea in 2003/04. I say again... Bollox to having fear of playing Brugge. They really are quite shite. Last season we'd have absolutely mullered em. This season? We'll see.

I'm a little concerned how quickly KS came back after the op, so a bit of rest might be an idea. Don't want him crocked. Plus, you need to give your '2nd string' decent match practice (particularly keepers) and keep them motivated and match fit - in case they need to step in.
chili_con_carne Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 Really hope we don't go into this game with another defensive mindset. I am pretty certain we will though. I would approach this match like man city did away at that Romanian team when they won 5-0 or whatever. Just attack attack attack from the start and get an early goal to settle the nerves. I can see this being 0-0 or 1-0 either way.

I was as disappointed and annoyed about our performance against Liverpool but dropping our best players is not the answer. If we dropped everyone who underperformed against Liverpool we would be making 11 changes. Although Brugge aren't the best, a draw away from home in our first ever champs league game would be a decent result. I reckon if we draw away to Brugge and Kobenhavn and beat them both at home, we could lose both games to Porto and still go through Easy on fella, no one said anything about dropping him or a poor performance at Liverpool. I said I don't think he is fit, and with a tight schedule there is no need to play a player who isn't fit. Would we rather lose him for one game or several in a short space of time.
purpleronnie Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 Looks like Brugge aren't that interested. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37353692 Quote Club Brugge manager Michel Preud'homme has told fans not to underestimate Leicester City before Wednesday's Champions League Group G game. The Belgian club expect 9,000 of the 29,000 seats at Jan Breydel Stadium to be empty for the Foxes' European debut. "Maybe [fans] have the wrong perception of the quality of the opponent," said Preud'homme, whose side play their first group-stage game for a decade. "The Belgium press says it's not a big team but I say they are." Premier League champions Leicester have sold out their ticket allocation for the match (19:45 BST). "If we get Roma, everyone will say 'Roma, we want to see it' but they might eliminate us," added Preud'homme, whose team are 10th in the domestic league after three defeats in six games. "If Arsenal are here, everyone will want to see Arsenal, but Leicester won against Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea and so on. "At this moment it means this team are better than the others. Maybe tomorrow people are expecting less from us because on paper they are better." Porto welcome FC Copenhagen in Wednesday's other Group G fixture.
Wymsey Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 Fans sound arrogant. At least their manager is down to earth and understands the task.

I'm happy to be here and will enjoy the moment, but I can't see us getting back to this level. How can you expect to be a big draw if it's only your 9th ever appearance in Europe? To be fair though: the game against Leicester raises the most interest by far, compared to the other two. I'll be happy when we get 15,000 fans against bloody Copenhagen. Maybe we're just not easily impressed. This is our 292nd European game. We've played Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Bayern, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd...Don't take it personally. As a matter of fact I'm a bit flabbergasted by the low turnout. I'd hoped for a full house after 11 years without CL football.
TJB-fox Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 I think (and hope) we will be really underestimated this year in the CL. Lads best put on a ****ing good show after the Hull and Liverpool games

Vardinio'sCat Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 Simpson trained today, but CR said he wasn't minded to take risks with him. Funny that. I think DS would not have come off immediately, if not for the CL. This is probably the only chance that many of these players will have, and the game at Anfield would have been different, although I think we almost certainly would have lost anyway. CL is our players priority, lets face up to that now. Not that they don't care about the PL all of the sudden, but they can see our group is favourable, and if we can get into the knockout stages, anything is possible. Respect to our travelling fans, what a tremendous moment for them.
Tuna Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 Instant ban for the first poster who uses the 'Oh Brugge' pun if they score in the match thread tomorrow.
foxsake Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 I hope we don't lose otherwise our egos will be Brugge'd (bruised). However, if we win then their faces will B-rugge (be rouge*). Either way I hope we put in a good performance, it would B-rugge (be rude) not to. Brugge*. *red *Brugge
crazyleicester Posted 13 September 2016 Posted 13 September 2016 The onus is on Club Brugge to win their home games if they want to progress in a competitive group. Im sure they are delighted to have drawn us when you look at some of the other sides they could have drawn so they will be buoyed by that. However, reports from Belgium are that ticket sales have gone poorly for them as us coming over havent grabbed the local public as it would if we were Man Utd or Barcelona. Also they have started the season in poor fashion drawing one and losing 3 of their opening 6 games and are in lowly 10th position. Yeah I know we havent started great but we are playing in a very competitive league and Belgiums Pro League is a poor standard. I expect us to return to some type of form later today. I can really see us winning this 2-1 or 3-1 and getting some confidence back in our game that is lacking at the moment. I have a feeling Slimani will be benched as well and we stick to a more trusted team and formation with strong options from the bench.

Livid Posted 14 September 2016 Posted 14 September 2016 The Jekyll and Hyde way we've played this season anything could happen tonight. I won't be surprised whatever the result is.
Callabinho Posted 14 September 2016 Posted 14 September 2016 Have a good feeling about tonight. Only if Claudio changes the formation mind....

I can assure you, we're not. It's a combination of things I guess. Some of us really hoped for some big fish in that draw. I guess they feel it's more of a EL draw instead of CL. And it actually is, with all due respect. Prices however are on CL level and that probably puts them off. We attract fans from all over the country. A lot of them have a long drive ahead of them before and afterwards. Though, It wouldn't be an excuse of it were against Barcelona... It's not underestimating our oppononent, if that's what you think. Winning at home would be a big achievement, and it wouldn't' come easy. Our coach and players are very aware of that, I believe most of our fans are as well. I think the press has the highest expectations because of the stint of gent in last years CL group stage. They will compare our achievement to theirs. So maybe their expectations are biased by that exceptional performance. And after all, if we can't beat waasland beveren the only thing we can do is be ****ing humble. It's also classic Michel preud'homme talk. He's always very careful not to underestimate his opponent. He doesn't want us to have high expectations, he always preaches realism.
