StriderHiryu Posted 8 February 2017 Posted 8 February 2017 Great attitude for someone who has been a ghost at the club. As others have said, whilst in the past he never set the world alight, he also never looked terrible. Just looked like a foriegn player tring to adjust to the league. He won't play on Sunday because he's probably not quite 100% match ready yet. The game against Swansea is basically the FA Cup final for both teams and I expect it to be a game that is high on intensity and low on quality. The team with the most fight wins it likely. We will definitely see more of him with games against Sevilla and Milwall though.
Koke Posted 8 February 2017 Posted 8 February 2017 Tbf he was up against rubbish like Blackman and Vydra. But he still looked good. Him and Wasilewski were passing it around and keeping possession and I got triggered. I thought that wasn't allowed at the our club
CloudFox Posted 8 February 2017 Posted 8 February 2017 Had a couple of rusty moments, but to be expected. That tackle on the edge of our box (where the Derby player tried to go around/through him and he just came away with the ball and the player was floored) which the ref wrongly gave as a freekick was excellent. Overall he was pretty calm. Would like to see him given a chance to see what he can do.
ajthefox Posted 8 February 2017 Posted 8 February 2017 1 hour ago, Watson said: He can control and pass a ball. Never seen anything like it in a blue shirt at the back. You including yourself in that?
yorkie1999 Posted 8 February 2017 Posted 8 February 2017 Thought he was great, makes a change to have a cb who doesn't need to look at the ball to control it. Did everything you want a defender to do.
Clever Fox Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 37 minutes ago, dmayne7 said: Did he?! I saw him make plenty of decent challenges. And I can only assume you haven't seen the last 4/5 matches because Fuchs has put in as bad a run of performances as I have ever seen from a Leicester player. He's been a complete clown which is a shame because he's been an excellent signing for us. Don't be blinded by a few tackles. Overall he had an average game and would have been a liability against better opposition. His positioning was poor a lot of the time. Benny Mendy King and Albrighton saved him at times. He's not able to jump off the ground for headers which is surprising for a young lad. Having said that he does have talent when on the Ball like when he played Musa in for the GK Handball.
adejo92 Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Put Morgan and Huth to shame. It is really funny the likes of Benny and Kaputska show they are more than capable but still wont see them again for months to come.
CKB Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Was impressed with Benny but it was more or less a second string Derby side. Yes he showed more than Huth and Morgan have done more or less all season, but a PL game is a huge step up but maybe he's worth that step up
STUHILL Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Very strong performance. It seems like forever we have seen a CB happy to hold onto the ball for more than 3 seconds without hitting it as far and high as they can. I have no idea why it has taken this long for us to see him play again, as the last few times he played for us, he looked decent too. Bizarre. Special mention to Was too, as I thought his passing out the back and into the midfield was effortless and makes me wonder why Wes and Huth make it look so impossible. I also thought Amartey looked a monster at RB, and I really hope Claudio has him earmarked as a CB for the future. I don't think his positioning is good enough for a midfielder, but for a defender where you can afford to keep it more simple, I think he could really do well. I think we all know that Wes and Huth will be straight back in on Sunday, but at least Benny has really staked a claim tonight.
lee7 Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Made some vital interceptions today, read the game really well and it was so reassuring to finally see someone at the back who is comfortable on the ball. He's not scared to play the ball into the midfield or recieve the ball under pressure. I hope that he gets the nod on Sunday ahead of Huth. Loved his passion at the end aswell whipping up the crowd!
Dan Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Still get the impression he's a bit rash at times and it could cost us but I think he's got to be worth considering starting at Swansea. Far more comfortable on the ball than any of our other centre halves and actually defends pretty well, generally.
North East Fox Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 What I liked the most was when he read a ball in behind Chilwell, took a nice touch to possibly make a clearance but then kicked it in to touch when realising the clearance on his weaker foot was too risky. Commentators made a joke of it on BBC but it showed a footballing brain to me ... he was class tonight. P.S. I know it's a stupid point to pick up on but hardly seen many players make what I think correct decisions this season, let alone 3 in 5 seconds
Wizerud Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Back to front @ Swansea: Benny, Huth and Morgan as a back three with Chilwell/Fuchs and Amartey/Simpson as wing backs. Drinky, Ndidi, Mendy/King. Mahrez/Gray. Vardy/Slimani. I just don't think Benny deserves to be dropped. Whether he's physically able to do another 90 four days on from pulling a 120 minute shift considering how little game he has had, I do not know.
hejammy Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Just a thought and it may be a bit controversial, but perhaps CR doesn't like playing Benny because he does play it out from the back rather than hoof it? CR has said in the past that we are a simple football club who doesn't have as many skillfull players who are good at passing and that's why we have adopted a counter attacking style of play. Perhaps he sees Benny's type of defender as potentially a bit dangerous as he feels we don't have the players to cope with the passing game? I thought Benny was good yesterday, he ironically creates more attacking chances by passing the ball out rather than route one. Probably does deserve a start in a league game.
Foxxed Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 If he needs more game time, we're a little late in the season to be biding our time. I'd like to see him play half of the Swansea match at least, if only to break the assumption that Huth and Morgan will always start.
SheppyFox Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Bennys performance meant we could actually play football, if he hadn't have played there's no way we'd have created the chances we did. Got shot down after 15 minutes for asking why Benny isn't a regular, he made one particularly bad pass after a year of not playing competitive football, it took less than 10 minutes to see the difference he would make given the long term chance.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 "When did we sign Jaap Stam" I'm glad our fans aren't going overboard after one game against a Second division side's reserve strike force. No, wait...
dpjfox Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Benny has to start, in place of either Wes or Huth they both know its likely to be thier last season as a regular, Benny deserves a chance,if CR doesnt know who to drop , why not both and throw Wgue in, I disagee with previous post re Armartey, imo he should be a regular starter , looks more defensibly reliable than Simpson, Mendy is showing signs of improvement so he may get a place next to Ndidi
Royston. Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 think hes definitely made that place on the bench his own
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Such a strange season when I would not be unhappy to see him, Chilwell, Mendy, Gray and Slimani all in at the weekend to replace Huth, Fuchs, Drinky, Mahrez and Vardy - the absolute core of our title winning side a few months ago. Either we we have much better strength in depth than we all thought or last season really was a magical, glorious one-off when everyone played above themselves.
Ric Flair Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 He had an equally impressive game against West Ham in the cup last season, literally controlled the defence and it was the first time that Fuchs looked assured being given the ball in space from Benalouane. I can only assume he's had to serve some sort of private ban for a year because he is a very, very good defender. You dare drop him on Sunday Claudio!!!!
crisp packet Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Can pass the ball. says a lot..... ! Id drop Huth car crash ATM.
Bob Hazels shorts Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Wes and Huth are knackered. Wes in particular was on the lash from winning the title, dropped by Jamaica, weird close season full of self congratulation around the side. @ 33 and 32 respectively playing every game and carrying around heavy units is bound to tire them. Absolutely right to rest them last night, they need to watch and reflect. Benny had the benefit of playing with arguably two better full backs, particularly Chilwell as Fuchs off form currently, Was also fresh and raring and against poor opposition. He has played competitively for the club at the second level but now chooses not too. Hope he progresses, but we need a reality check, I wouldn't swap, he's as much Jaap Stam as he is Harry Hill.
norwichfox Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Good positive performance from him tonight, his distribution was a little suspect at times but he did the basics in no nonsense defending perfectly, a lot faster both in thought and deed than the current suspects. Must be included for the Swansea game imo. It really begs the question of why hasn't he been included for so long?
Vocey Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Think people are going a little ott. Looked suspect in first 20 minutes to me, definitely improved as match went on though, and has the best distribution of any of our centre backs.
