We tell our lads, don't mark at corners, don't jump, don't get near them. Then Athletico focus on targeting that and it's actually an area we can deal with them with relative ease? Just struggling to understand how we could defend that terribly. Probably the worst we've played at the back all season and that's one hell of a statement. Maybe Shakey wanted us to be shit so they underestimate us like Sevilla did. P.s this isn't a serious post, I realise we were just a pile of wnk I think you've forgotten quite a few games this season, we were equally as bad as that at the back in many games. We aren't the best defensively, we never have been, which is why we need to make sure the back four aren't constantly under pressure like they were yesterday.

Earlier in the season they were poor and we performed badly at set plays. when our intensity is at 100%, our concentration levels rise. Going to be the toughest game most of these guys will have ever played in. super human effort required to stay in the tie but dont assume atleti will roll over at the KP like Sevilla did. They perform away from home just as well as they do at the Calderon. That's why they have made two of the last three finals. just hope their players are a tad complacent, despite simeone's instructions. Sevilla had won the Europa Cup for the past 3 years!... Look what happened there. We've already exceeded all expectations getting to the QF. This tie is a Brucie Bonus and the player's can just go for it, the pressure is off, as against Sevilla we're not expected to win.. But strange things can happen in football you know!

Kitchandro Posted 10 April 2017 Posted 10 April 2017 The most vital thing is we come out the blocks early. If we're on the back foot we'll just get overrun. If they've got something to worry about it gives us a fighting chance.

This season we haven't really - Aguero was injured for the Man City win. And we all saw what happened against Chelsea both times You're right though, these are still the same 10 players from last year so on their day they can beat anyone. Just worries me Atletico are going into the game with 5 wins and a draw against Real at the Bernabeu!
jammie82uk Posted 10 April 2017 Posted 10 April 2017 Stat time Atlético Madrid and Leicester City are meeting for the third time in a European home/away tie after facing each other in the first round of the 1961/62 Cup Winners Cup and 1997/98 UEFA Cup. The Spanish side qualified on both previous occasions. In fact, 25% of Leicester City’s games in European competition have taken place against Atlético Madrid (4 out of 16). Atlético Madrid have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the fourth consecutive season. They had only reached that stage once previously (1996/97). Atlético Madrid have won six of their eight Champions League games this season (D1 L1). No team has collected more victories. Atlético Madrid have won 16 of their 21 Champions League home games under Diego Simeone (D4 L1), their only defeat coming against Benfica in September 2015 (1-2). They are unbeaten in the knockout stages (W5 D4). Atlético Madrid have also kept a clean sheet in 15 of their last 17 Champions League games at the Calderón. Leicester City are the first team since Malaga in 2012/13 to reach the quarter-finals on their Champions League debut. They’re also the eighth English team to make it to the Last 8 of the competition, more than any other country. Leicester City have won only one of their four away games in the Champions League this season (D1 L2), it was against Club Brugge on matchday 1 (3-0). Leicester are the lowest scoring side in the Champions League among the eight teams left in this season’s competition (10 goals in 8 games). 50% of their goals have come from set-piece. Leicester’s possession average of 38% is the lowest of any team to have reached this season’s quarter-finals. Antoine Griezmann has scored or assisted 50% of Atlético Madrid’s goals in the Champions League since last season (11 goals and 3 assists). Ryad Mahrez is directly involved in six of Leicester’s 10 Champions League goals this season (4 goals, 2 assists). Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has saved 19 of the 21 shots on target he’s faced this season in the Champions League, including two penalties (both against Sevilla in the round of 16).

Man united home and away springs to mind straight away. Some of the worst defending I've ever seen.
ousefox Posted 10 April 2017 Posted 10 April 2017 Weather looks like it may stay in the mid 20s for at least the start of the game. That should be quite challenging for our style.
dylanlegend Posted 10 April 2017 Posted 10 April 2017 Our biggest issue is whether Benny plays, at fault for nearly all Everton's goals yesterday. To say he had a shocker is an understatement. Do we play Wazza or even Amartey instead? Luckily they don't have a big striker like Lukaku so maybe Benny will be alright?

You think Benny was bad... Benny got bullied in the air, yeah - but we had no midfield disruption (shockers from DD and King as a unit) and we didn't man mark on Everton's set pieces at all. Back post was wide open, regardless of how they ultimately scored! We'll be okay, I hope. 2-1 Madrid, and we fight on at home.

matty98 Posted 10 April 2017 Posted 10 April 2017 We've scored at least 2 goals in all of Shakey's games in charge so far, I think we'll win 2-1, because why not?

He's taken charge of three Champions League games this season and only given 7 cards across all thee (all yellow). Given Vardy is one yellow in this game from missing the home leg (as is Huth) this is good news, as no doubt Atletico will aim to wind Vardy up as our main goal threat.

He's got better form than either Was or Amartey. I'm hoping yesterday was a blip that he'll learn from. Besides Was hasn't played in what seems like months and Amartey has never played CB for us. I'd probably prefer Wes if fit but otherwise it's all Benny for me.
Guest Posted 10 April 2017 Posted 10 April 2017 Personally I think we should sack Shakespeare before the game. We lost at Everton and he has to step down. He isn't capable
Stevosevic Posted 10 April 2017 Posted 10 April 2017 We're screwed for the return leg if Huth gets booked and Morgan can't play.

Detroit Blues Posted 10 April 2017 Posted 10 April 2017 So how's this work? If you get 3 yellow cards in 3 separate matches, you are suspended? We have Huth, Drinkwater, and Vardy sitting on 2 yellow cards. It seems pretty harsh to get suspended for picking up 3 yellow cards across 9 champions league matches (6 group stage, 2 round of 16, 1 quarterfinal match).

Very aware of what's around him, rarely loses his man and manages to clear the danger more often than not. Looking forward to him being back in against AM

Yeah, they just have that small Griezmann bloke. Everything will be fine. Edit: You'd seriously play Wasil instead of Benny? Do you want Madrid to kill the tie in one game?

Wazza is not in the list of players we announced in our Champions League squad so can't play. Molla Wague is but he's out for the season.
