Pretty much no premier league football team does this tbh.

Or top flight team anywhere, with the exception of Barcelona circa 2006.

No one club develops enough youth players to fill out their senior squad. You're lucky if you get a couple in a generation and given we've got King, Chilwell and potentially Barnes floating around the first team we're probably doing okay.

Not forgetting Schlupp, who had glimmers of brilliance and was integral in our promotion, Great Escape and Premier League title; was also fantastic comedy value AND we sold him for £12.5m.

Liam Moore was massive for us in our promotion season too before he fell out of favour and then had injuries - can't remember if we got a fee for him though.

Will we need another CB after the signing of Maguire?...

We'll have.. Morgan,  Huth,  Benny,  Maguire and Hughes.. Enough cover?

Moore will be ahead of Hughes in the pecking order I would imagine.

Southampton haven't done a bad job of it, shame they can't hold on to them, but then if they did there wouldn't be the room to bring the next lot through.

Really you need a mix of up and coming talent, players in their prime and experienced older heads who can keep everyone on track.

Saints have probably the best academy in the country though, not forgetting Bale and Walcott etc as well.

That's not something we can just whip up over night, it'll have taken them generations of smart building and scouting to get where they are.

We won't be the next Soton just by handing out a few undeserved debuts to some shit youngsters instead of signing Maguire and the like for 16m.

They do well sure but they're not gonna be top 4 anytime soon are they?

If Huth and Morgan perform like they did for 50% of the time last season they could find themselves replaced sooner rather than later.

I don't want to see both Morgan and Huth playing regularly next season, one yes but not both.

Benny isn't first choice for a top 7 side.

Hughes probably isn't ready.

So that leaves us with Morgan, Huth and Maguire battling for 2 places, couple of injuries/suspensions and we're looking short again.

Should be bringing in two players (including Maguire) as replacements for Morgan and Huth the following season.

£12m fee with add ons according to the Hull end. Not bad at all.

So we've saved £18m. ;) Pays for Smalling and his wages for 8 months.

Another one is too many for me. One injury and it's Huth and Morgan, two injuries and it's one + Benny... only if you had three CB injuries would you start to look stretched.

I'd rather lose Benny and get a better option if we have to bring in another's CB.

To be fair, signing a player from a relegated club does not require the work of genius.

Have you ever met John Rudkin?

Well apparently that all went through rather smoothly.

Have we adopted a new transfer strategy of actually negotiating rather than being told a fee and walking away.

Medical completed! Yeeeeeeee!!

It's just confirmation we need now as Pretty sure that was probably done at the weekend as the owners helicopter was very active around the training ground then

Don't Southampton develop their academy players, but end up selling  them anyway.
