So did everybody have that feeling of despair when they woke up this morning, opened up Foxestalk, saw the Drinkwater had left thread and then frantically scanned down the thread list looking for "Silva Signs" :D

Yes - I saw the Hail King Rudkin thread, goodbye to Danny threads, so assumed we'd got it done but couldn't find the confirmed thread. Thought maybe something was wrong with Foxestalk so checked BBC Sport website. Not on the list of completed transfers.

Confusion... rechecked Foxestalk,... read this thread in more detail.....

Then the rage began......... :mad::@

does that make it ok then?

Clubs should set deadline on players leaving X days before end of window, meaning they have enough time to close deal on inbound player "comfortably".

You're living in cloud cuckoo land if you think deals work like this.

I was listening to a super organised ex chairman on the radio the other day who said no matter how hard he tried to get it done early, it would always end up going to the wire. This is because so many deals are dependent on other deals happening (a bit like the chain when buying a house) but even more complicated.

it's only the biggest clubs that have the luxury of perhaps getting big deals done early. It was no surprise that Man U and Man City weren't scrambling around last night (although sometimes even they have to) as they have the luxury of signing players who:

A: Are most likely to be desperate to come to them

B: Less reliant on moving people on straight away to complete a deal due to their ridiculously high wage bills.

The criticism shouldn't be aimed at how late the Silva deal was last night, but heads will roll if it doesn't go through because of some sort of administrative school boy error. A business turning over hundreds of millions of pounds like Leicester City should be efficient and have procedures in place to tackle the intense pressures that happen on a transfer deadline night. It didn't look that way with Sanders jumping into his people carrier with papers everywhere driving off without his seat belt on.

That says that Sporting reached an agreement with LCFC for the transfer but that his registration is awaiting confirmation by FIFA.....don't worry Sepp Blatter is sorting it out for us. lol

Doesn't look fake to me - specialist references to Portuguese legislation, stock market etc.

Edit:.....Unless someone has copied a previous genuine press release and inserted Silva's name....

Do you think it was a good idea to leave it this late to do dealing?

I don't know if we did or didn't, but we should have made it clear to certain players they won't be in our plans and they should be looking for other clubs. Even if it means selling at below what we would value them at. Then we can bring in upgrades.

Again it's easier said and done. Look I agree with everything you are saying, in an ideal world you're absolutely right. But it's not an ideal world and when other parties are involved you can't always do what you want to.

As exciting as deadline day can be, I'd never want my club to be involved in it. It smacks of poor planning to me.

It's difficult to plan for last minute bids and players chucking in transfer requests 4 days before the window closes. For the centre back, we've clearly been trying for a long long time. The ones you really want are probably harder to get, so you make your way down the list until one sticks. Dragovic is clearly a long way from being what we wanted, but we don't know how close we got on others. We could have thought we had players in the bad several times and been let down for one reason or another.

Make it very clear to all clubs and our players that they have till the first weekend of August to be moved on. After that, if you're planned to be part of the team then you're stuck till January. I think we did that with Mahrez actually, we set a cut off of 11th August? Though he still seemed to be under the impression that a move was viable so I have no idea if we would have enforced that if an offer came in.

Again, it's ideal world stuff. I agree in theory, putting it into practice not always as easy.

Anyway, I expect Silva to be announced at some point today or tomorrow. I just don't know why we waited till yesterday to pull our fingers out our arses and actually make something happen.

If he's not, then the club rightly need to ask questions. Because DD really shouldn't have gone without being 100% sure.

We were getting £15m bids from Chelsea for starters, no way we were letting him leave and then having to pay more for Silva (in Portugal they seem to think the price is more like £27m from what I saw). Until they got serious we couldn't. Again, I take your point about reaching a point and saying no deal... but if they come off then it doesn't matter.

That's a 6 month date - so would assume that's a financial year or half year.

Correct date at the bottom - also saying this on Portuguese media, but as I can't read Portuguese I have no idea.
