Mahrez to .......................?

Recommended Posts

I agree - he looked like he didn't want to get injured and got muscled off the ball and out of challenges and kept turning and looking at the ref like he had been fouled.

In in terms of shop window stuff, he didn't look like a £40 million player that's strong enough for the Premiership.

I was critical of Mahrez last season perhaps OTT at times, but he did need dropping last season and he pissed me off.

I didn't think he was that bad last night, not as great as he can be but a massive improvement on last season admittedly that wouldn't be hard.

I'll comment on him as I see him, I won't beat around the bush if he's poor as shown last season but i'll give him credit when he deserves it as I do with all players.

That's pretty much how I saw it, he had a few bright moments, a few poor moments and was average for the rest.

I think people already had the swords drawn before kick off.

Mahrez is always poor against Arsenal, so nothing has changed there, I'm going to judge him from this point on for this season, whilst he is here.

I find it hard to assess Mahrez's performances.

First, I do agree that Mahrez is arguably the most talented and exciting player we've ever had and I'd hate to lose that.

Last night, a couple of positive bits of play (the corner and the through ball), but otherwise remembered for his constant weak play, losing the ball, and painfully for their 2nd goal (not showing awareness of how best to play for the team in defensive positions).

On the other hand, he must crave for the sort of support Albrighton gets from Fuchs whenever he gets the ball. Simpson is so static by comparison.

Much earlier in this thread someone pointed out how much it opened up for Mahrez when Dr Laet, for all his shortcomings, partnered him on the right. It would be interesting to see him switched to the left, whether he would benefit from pairing with Fuchs (or we sign up a more dynamic right back).

The problem with when Mahrez lost the ball trying to beat his man and de. Laet. Was much further upfield we were left painfully exposed on the right and conceded so many goals.

He was useless, all I saw was every time he had the ball he gave it back to Arsenal, did he think he had signed for them...

That's not true, i invite you to rewatch all his matches since 2014.  He was never that bad. In fact he even was pretty good with some class moments.

Reckon he'll be benched next week, although I'd rather he start. Could be key to unlocking a more defensive outfit.

No, he has always had his bad games in a season against Arsenal :P

They seem to know how to nullify him.

That's not to say he looks disinterested but that I will judge him more on what he does for the next few games, if he is still here or not benched.

The public statements he's made about wanting to leave has put him in a difficult position with the fans.

if he does something bad he's 'not interested'.

if he does something good he's 'playing for a move'.

Oh please, read the comments about him before the statement. They havent changed

Thought he did fine last night. Can't expect him to skin 5 guys and put one on a plate for JV every time he laces up. He had a few nice little touches, nothing too special, obviously more to come.

Did anyone else think starting him last night and bringing Gray on for 7 minutes was an insult to Gray?

Well, it's easy to nullify Riyad. The lad is not a speedy winger and you can't expect him to cross the whole pitch, receiving the ball close to the corner flag. He also seems to be a very frustrated player, when he see the likes of Oxlade receiving a hundred more balls, he make the littlest effort with backward passes.

I don't think so.

Everytime Gray gets his chance he is utterly useless. So overrated it's untrue.

I don't care if you're the best player to ever play for us or a bang average player. If you play poorly and look disinterested you're fair game for criticism. If that upsets his fan boys then so be it. Vardy got stick when he went through a slump and he's more of a hero to most city fans so nobody is untouchable.

Last night wasnt ant an appalling performance by any means but to shirk that challenge when all he had to do was hoof it and get us in a goal up is a very poor error of judgement

it s a mahrez related matter today is him tomorrow will be another player if z club cannot take profit 100% from his quality players as fix the big teams by adapting formations and styles of play for/around them so losing points and underperformance will bd the result

we all see what the top 6 teams did last year and this year when they spent 100-300 m to strengthen their squad and at the same time Leicester seemed not concerned even when they lost a Krystal player ( more then mahrez ) ngolo Kante

Leicester should have spent 100-150 m to get at a different level znd compete for an CL of EL place like Everton but instead the owners are not interested to fo that znd keep pursuing the gains only do I think they will sell the  club within 2-3 years znd we will never witness a competitive Leicester on a top level only a team chasing relegation

Question: Apparently some fans booed when we brought him on as a sub vs. Gladbach. Why do you think they did that?

I can see that English is not your first language, so I won't be harsh on what you've written, but you essentially are saying that our owners will sell our best players as already proven and eventually sell the club in 2-3 years, ultimately to spend our time trying to stave relegation?

Are you actually a supporter, because what you've written is absolute bollux. We are not a top 6 club, and we do not have the available cash to compete with them and achieve FFP, it's simply not possible. However, what we can do is incrementally improve utilising the success that we have achieved. We will always have bigger clubs looking to snatch our better players, that's the way it's always been for clubs that produce or find gems. we just have to adapt by either increasing the productivity of our academy/U23s or manage our scouts to unearth more unknowns or lesser knowns at reasonable prices. Our exposure to sudden and extraordinary success has actually made this more difficult. But we'll cope, and adapt. It's not impossible for us to get sucked into relegation again, but we have improved our chances of maintaining a decent balance and compete in the Premiership as a mainstay, and pull off another surprise or two.

thank you mate that was class but you missed the main point : the owners didn't replace a player they lost by a same quality player ( I still believe that Kante was more important for Leicester than mahrez ) vichai should have spent 40-50 m for a top MD and CB and PM and RB ( 100-150 m ) but by not doing so I got the feeling that they are not interested to see Leicester a decent team ( i.e targeting 6-8 place )

PS : why you saw me not a supporter and you are one

That isn't the owners' fault... more of the manager and the recruitment team, who did spend about 70m total but on the wrong types of players.

His performance last night won't have added any wedge to his price.

Good, especially since Arsenal was the only remaining realistic suitor. More than happy to keep him (as long as we take him off pens )
