Maguire is a definite starter, Huth would tip it over Morgan but obviously Morgan is club captain.

Would like to see us transition to 3 at the back with 2 wingbacks and for that I think we need a young ball playing centre back and a young right back with excellent attacking flair. Aside from that I think we are there.

Is jim white a fortune teller then. Vardy, mahrez, look sharp. Anything can happen as we all know. I know winning the title is a big ask but our boys never give up attitude is awesome. Win the title and up yours jim

They were fishing this earlier, one of the reporters was suggesting Vardy should 100% go to Chelsea as he would be even better.

I don't get this clamour for creativity. I understand why fans want it but look at our team over the last few seasons and we have done alright without a major creative force (Cambiasso aside which was only a success when we changed our style). We play well to our strengths, have started the season well enough, dallied with being more possession based last season which was a disaster.  We have a team identity and ethos of hard work and fast, counter attacking football so what anyone thinks a more creative player in the middle will add isn't obvious to me, if anything it will detract from what is at our core as a side.  Happy to be enlightened though.

As an example, versus Brighton we had a period of 80% possession after we scored but struggled to make clear cut chances, even though we won very easily. It's definitely not a "must-have" position but it's an area we could improve in.

Maybe a better way to think about it is to think about a player in the mold of Andres Iniesta, Marco Veratti, Tony Kroos or Luka Modric. These are all-round midfielders that are highly technical and can create chances through dictating a game start to finish. They always seem to have time and space on the ball! Such players are very rare to find and one of the reasons why they end up at the top clubs. When Drinkwater is at his very best he can be capable of this, but we could do with another. I doubt we will be a possession based team for a very long time, but the point is that a technical midfielder will be able to turn, keep composed and keep us in possession. Against the top teams we have a tendency to drop deep and panic which leads to mistakes. See the Arsenal game as a prime example.

One of the reasons why Harry Maguire has stood out from the get go is that he doesn't just hoof it. He get's on the ball, keeps his calm and helps build up the play. Now imagine another player like that but in the middle of the park.

I'm really interested to hear which players from last night people think could play in the league, even coming off the bench.

For me only Fuchs, Maguire, Ndidi and Gray are good enough and 3 of those are regulars already.

Slimani might be able to nick a goal if we get crosses into him but his all round game is poor. I guess that's fine if he's 4th choice. Chilwell is clearly a good footballer but he is a defender by trade and he isn't a great defender.

Let's not forget what team we were playing against. I'm really surprised people were encouraged by the individual performances last night. The ones I haven't mentioned were below average to very poor.

Having said that, our first team is pretty good. 3 signings would make a big difference - but they need to be a centre back, a right back and a creative central midfielder. And they need to be good enough to potentially play in the first team. 'Squad players' are no good. We have plenty just filling up space.

Slimani played well last night outside his goals. He came deep, kept the ball and made some good forward passes, bringing others into the game.

Also, please give two examples of mistakes Amartey and King made last night that leads you to believe they were "Below average" or "very poor"

Knight and Mendy also didn't do anything to deserve such criticism.

Well with all this interest popping up we need a swift positive reaction, this could be a massive few weeks in the whole history of the club - and it's off pitch related - we are a couple of players away from being a really competitive side that could seriously aim for European places, so hopefully the owners will make a big financial commitment this week (say 50 million - we can offload a few as well of course) and show these players, Vardy, Mahrez, Drinky etc a good reason to stay here and continue to push forward again, the clubs already shown them it's happy to financially support them to the top levels of the game so it's still not outside the relms of possibility with a conversation about a couple of big names coming in that we can get them to re-commit to the club. If we don't do this it could be the moment which sees us lose the core of this top team forever. It would be a shame to not make that extra investment and then to lose so much.

We gave Arsenal a go but just looked poor at the back - a big name centre half like Mamadou Sakho could make a massive difference there

a creative playmaker - someone like Jese who Stoke got (shame we missed out on him) - really try and push the boat out here

Come on Top, a 50mil invested in the next couple of weeks could gain back so much more revenue over the next few years, it's worth it! :scarf:

You said it above - it's DD when he is back

Not on the sky one he didn't!

Yep, he's not stupid... Sky Sources would have linked us to 12 players by the morning if he had.

Didn't know where else to post this. Jim White stirring.

Vardy, Drinkwater and Mahrez will never recreate their title heroics by staying at @LCFC.Is it time for them to move on?
@talkSPORT next!

His main employer is Sky and to be honest they've been using underhanded tactics all summer to encourage betting.

I can imagine theres a fair amount of money going on Drinkwater and even Vardy to Chelsea at the minute.

Aside from wether people think the players are adequate or not we do have sufficient cover in the CB and CM areas so I'd like to see RB a priority, CS suggested one or two more faces could that be RB and a potential replacement for Mahrez?

Have we had any strong links in the RB position? Or any not so strong for that matter?!

We're not going to get Rugani. I've just googled him and Arsenal have had two bids rejected this month plus he's also started for Juventus this season.

Even if Juventus wanted to sell he's not going to come here after starting quite a few Juventus games as a young player when he had the chance to go to Arsenal earlier this month.

This. He's slotted right in, is already in the Italy squad, and most importantly, is the reason Juve haven't gone all out to replace Bonucci.

I agree we need a new CB but not sure if they will go for a starter. Same at RB too. I think Shakey likes his first XI and is now thinking about depth.

Depth is something that worries me. We have the starting XI, and then what I call the back ups (King, Amartey, Chilly etc). The worry is the number of inbetweens we have: Slim, Gray, Iborra, Iheanacho and how to keep them happy. I really don't want that to be the case with any incoming, they either have to outright replace/displace a starter or be happy to be on the bench.

The window closes in days, if something is going to happen it's going to be pretty imminent.

IF Mahrez stays, we need ATLEAST 3 players.

CB - Absolute must

RB - meh, have a few that can play there but no real competition

CAM - ABSOLUTE MUST. We are so one dimensional, we need a CAM with some vision so we can change it up to something like a 4-2-3-1 and actually allow Vardy to sit on the back line ready for through balls.

Weighted through balls don't need a lot of space behind to cause problems, over the top is pointless.

Someone like Gylfi Sig would have been perfect because he can play in a 4-4-2 or in a CAM position which allows us to change formation without making too many changes, Ndidi can play CM and CDM which gives us flexibility.

Without an attacking midfielder we will just be predictable this season, get someone in and let DD go if he wants to.
