Scotch Posted 23 August 2017 Posted 23 August 2017 17 minutes ago, BlueBrett said: Agreed. We don't need any more 'creative' players. Sure these are the ones people like to watch and get excited about signing but we can be effective without one. We're all about pace and power going forward and besides we've always got Mahrez/Gray if we do need a bit of magic from time to time. Against both Brighton and Sheff Utd it felt like we controlled the game quite comfortably and had the potential to explode into action pretty much whenever we needed to. There's a real professional feel about the squad this year. Obviously it would be great if we could get someone with pace, power AND creativity but how many players like that are there outside of the world elites like CR7? Please nobody say Wilfred Zaha... I'd love us to sign a really attack minded RB. I mean like a super offensive type too not just someone who occasionally gets forward. Thinking of a Victor Moses type (not him but you know). I think it would be so much fun if we could play someone like that and Chilwell in our home games and then revert to Simpson and Fuchs when we go away or maybe when the really big boys come to the KP. The problem with a RB like that is that he would be playing on the same side as Mahrez (hopefully) which could leave us ridiculously exposed. The reason that we can play Chillwell in that role is that he has Albrighton helping him prevent the counter, Mahrez doesn't offer that same protection so having a forward thinking RB behind him means that we're one half decent left winger away from being torn apart.
Finnegan Posted 23 August 2017 Posted 23 August 2017 If nobody leaves, I actually only want a centre half and a right back tbh. Everyone's obsession with a creative midfielder is misguided, we don't play with one, we've just signed Iheanacho to sit at 10, our creativity has always come from the wings and if Riyad stays and keeps up this form we'll be fine. We won the league without an attacking midfielder, we got to the quarters of the CL without an attacking midfielder. Not every formation requires a Mesut Ozil. Our favoured systems require solid, box to box, energetic midfielders that cover a reasonable about it ground and have a fair all round skill set. In Drinkwater, James, Ndidi and maybe even Mendy we have those things.

Do you think Morgan looks as good as he did then?
Long Eaton Fox Posted 23 August 2017 Posted 23 August 2017 With Benny not in the squad last night he surely is on his way and another CB coming in.

I said they still have a huge part to play, but if you don't think they are going to decline with age then you are not in the real world. Look at the downward trend of some of their stats over the last three seasons and the fact age catches up with everyone. Huth is 33 and Wes is nearly 34, they will and they are losing mobility.

Every season will be worse than before. Mrs foxinsocks says my one performance has been declibe over many season now. I have no idea what her tra transfer budget is
Kitchandro Posted 23 August 2017 Posted 23 August 2017 I'm really interested to hear which players from last night people think could play in the league, even coming off the bench. For me only Fuchs, Maguire, Ndidi and Gray are good enough and 3 of those are regulars already. Slimani might be able to nick a goal if we get crosses into him but his all round game is poor. I guess that's fine if he's 4th choice. Chilwell is clearly a good footballer but he is a defender by trade and he isn't a great defender. Let's not forget what team we were playing against. I'm really surprised people were encouraged by the individual performances last night. The ones I haven't mentioned were below average to very poor. Having said that, our first team is pretty good. 3 signings would make a big difference - but they need to be a centre back, a right back and a creative central midfielder. And they need to be good enough to potentially play in the first team. 'Squad players' are no good. We have plenty just filling up space.
les-tah Posted 23 August 2017 Posted 23 August 2017 With Benalouane not on the bench and Morgan and Huth both injured and ageing) you cant really see anything other than the club signing someone soon. Would be a disaster if not. Its just a matter of when and as there is no rumours its quite strange.

He is very much number 9 player and his movement is brilliant if you watch. Its just the fact we have Vardy cemented in that position and we try make Slimani into a number 10 which he is not.

I was referring to your comment that they have been declining over the seasons. I totally agree that they struggled last season and that we have no doubt seen the best of them.
whoareyaaa Posted 23 August 2017 Posted 23 August 2017 Winger and CB, actually I don't even think we need a Winger maybe two defensive players if we keep hold of everyone else. Townsend wouldn't be bad but would mean getting rid of Musa would it be worth just holding onto to Musa!
foxy boxing Posted 23 August 2017 Posted 23 August 2017 It's been clear as day for a long time that we needed the defence strengthening and with Maguire it has been an excellent start but we need one more!. with Huth and Morgan getting on a bit and picking up injuries more!. Benny looks to be on his way out and if we can keep hold of the crown jewels Vardy and Mahrez, we may have to let one of Slimani, Ulloa and Musa go as Vardy and Okazaki seem to be the regular starters and pairing and the fact we have Iheanacho waiting to show us what he can do!
MikeyT Posted 23 August 2017 Posted 23 August 2017 Didn't know where else to post this. Jim White stirring. Vardy, Drinkwater and Mahrez will never recreate their title heroics by staying at @LCFC.Is it time for them to move on? @talkSPORT next!

lcfc sheff Posted 23 August 2017 Posted 23 August 2017 barzagli and weiser are my rather hopeful punts

Just two games against BMG and Arsenal were enough to show me Wes is declining. Benny is well out of the picture as well, so I'd say it's essential to get another CB. A ball playing CB like Maguire and we'll be quality! My concern with another ball playing CB like Maguire is that we could get caught out at the back, either if we are taking too long to move the ball forward, which allows teams to press and force errors (like we have been successful at!), or both CB get over excited and launch forward and we get caught on the break. I'd like a player in the mould of Huth who can be a rock at the back and allow Maguire to push forward when the opportunity presents itself, and know when to hoof it out if teams are pressing high.
Koke Posted 23 August 2017 Posted 23 August 2017 1. We need another CB. Daniele Rugani fits the bill. Sane age and attributes as Maguire. Rumour that Juventus want to get rid. 2. We need another RB. It's hard to find a full back who can defend AND attack. Even the big clubs struggle to find that. Love Simpson but he is allergic to the ball. 3. We need to offload a few players. Ulloa, Musa and possible a CM. Besides that, we hsve a pretty good squad.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think we need another CB who goes walk about like Maguire. Just someone very comfortable on the ball whose first instinct isn't to pump the ball 80 yards. Defending still comes first.

I've just googled him and Arsenal have had two bids rejected this month plus he's also started for Juventus this season. Even if Juventus wanted to sell he's not going to come here after starting quite a few Juventus games as a young player when he had the chance to go to Arsenal earlier this month.
