Does it have to be a legal appeal?  It looks as though we don't have a leg to stand on.

I think we should argue for some leniency because an entirely innocent player has effectively been handed a 4 month ban.  I suppose appealing to FIFA's better nature is a long shot but maybe we could set a precedent whereby FIFA change their rules.  For instance a period of ten minutes post deadline when any late submissions would incur a fine of 10% of the transfer fee or a million squid, whichever is highest.

This would punish the clubs rather than players and the deadline would still stand as no one would want a fine.

I hope Vincente Iborra can become our Fellaini

Sounds like we need someone with relationships within FIFA, someone who can quietly run things up a flagpole, figure out which argument is the one to go with, and represent our interests in the proceeding. If we can only make one argument on appeal (?), as has been suggested, we go with the option that is the combination of persuasive/gives FIFA cover to back away from the rejection of the registration. In this situation, you want to present the appellate trier with the explanation they can use to show no fault on the part of LCFC. That is the only thing that gets this home, if there is a way of looking at this that suggests LCFC was in fact blameless. Submission timestamp, evidence that submissions at times take 15+ seconds, something like that. If you can't do it, you fvcking wait until January and you play him then, there will still be a great deal to play for, Iheanacho and Iborra and Dragovic are about ready to provide reinforcements. Iborra is critical, pair him with Ndidi, let's see what that looks like, we are in desperate need of a MF who can start the break the way Kante used to, definitely not Ndidi's strength.

Christ, if only we could recall Mendy. We're going to wish we had him in a month.

We've got N'Didi, Iborra, James, Amartey and King. We certainly aren't any weaker than last season in that department.

Question: Has this exact situation ever happened before? As in a player left in limbo, sold by one club but unable to register for their new one?

If so there would be no precedent, and surely unique enough for FIFA to be lenient (as if!) As we've mentioned before it's equivalent to a 19+ match ban!

That depends how you look at it. Most here thought Drinkwater was playing well in the first third of last season. Are any of the above better than an in-form Drinkwater? Better depth now certainly.

Do you fancy a repeat of last season then?

Heaven forbid that we have to rely on James,  King and Amartey in midfield!...

None of those are PL standard and Iborra is unproven at this level... Leaving a huge responsibility on the young shoulders of Ndidi!

It was imperative after losing Drinkwater that he was replaced  with someone of quality. Silva was that man... But we've f**ked up.. BIG TIME!

Is receiving £35m on transfer deadline day for an unfit Drinkwater coming off the back of a poor season, with a guarantee of Adrien Silva plus £13m joining on 1st Jan, such a bad deal :dunno:

Would you have taken that deal ??

We haven't even seen Iborra properly yet. He was brought in early and wasn't a 'back-up' or last minute target. I doubt he left Sevilla to sit on our bench, he must be in Shakeys plans.

Legally we have plenty of legs to stand on as FIFA regulations can easily be argued to contravene EU employment law. They are denying freedom of movement within member countries, a keystone to the EU. I know the rules were probably made for good reasons, but shouldn't take precedence over the laws of the country / union. FIFA think they are fireproof, but they are not.

However, one of FIFA regulations is that members cannot take FIFA to court, but instead appeal to various tribunals that FIFA control.

That's how interpret FIFA rules from what I have read.

It's whether Leicester have the bottle to challenge FIFA.

I really struggle to see this going positively for us.

It's already been 12 days and we've heard fvck all. I think we (as fans) need to accept this is looking very unlikely and just move on. If something happens to the contrary great, but as far as I see it we won't see Silva until January.

He spent a lot of time on sevilla's bench. He came here for the money - simples

anyone think we sold DD really late so they didn't have time to find all his injuries in the medical ................... ?

If the Iborra /Ndidi partnership doesn't work we're in trouble.. (And I doubt Iborra will be mobile enough to play in a midfield two)... James,  King and Amartey all worry me!

The Asia football market is one that FIFA is yet to properly crack. The revenues from commercial deals are endless especially with the start of the Chinese league etc.

I'm quite sure it's been explained to FIFA  what power & influence our owners have over that whole market especially the business side & what the benefits will be of keeping them as 'friends'!

The saying goes....

"You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours"

Agreed! Signing anyone (with reason) from abroad is a risk. I see what you're saying about Iborra and James' mobility issues, I think once Iborra is fit we might try a 3 man midfield. Both James and Iborra can play football and a 3 would allow them to do this. It's a lot of ifs and buts, however I think it might be our only option if the Silva deal doesn't materialise.

Alright lads, whose taking one for the team so that we can see this through?

I'll buy the knee pads so am doing my part (financially speaking).

I think reading between the lines, clubs usually insert terms in the transfer contract, that states that a player only transfers ownership once he’s registered on the Transfer Matching System (TMS). So a lot of the transfers you don’t hear about on deadline day, don’t get done.

We’ve obviously not got this clause and with FIFA highly unlikely to change stance, we are left with the choices of wait until January, or farm him out on loan back to Sporting. The Portuguese transfer window doesn’t close until the 22nd September. This seems the most logical if I’m honest.

Posted

It’s not that dissimilar to the João Moutinho deal from Porto to Tottenham in 2012, when they loss Modric to Real Madrid. Fortunately for them, they pulled out and didn’t actually sign him!!!

Bloody Portuguese clubs and the protracted negotiations!!

Posted

I'll say one thing, I just tried to go to the FIFA TMS website, and it's fookin' slow! That's me trying to log on at 3:30am UK time, with no transfer deadline in sight and I still gave up before it loaded.  We never stood a chance!

We definitely have more depth, though the quality up top is inferior ti Ndidi/DD if Iborra has to nurse this groin strain all season like Slimani did.

that idea would be pretty decent and would certainly help in transfer where club are in different countries etc but its FIFA, they arent the brightest.
