ian_marshall Posted 7 October 2017 Posted 7 October 2017 They won't, but the PL need to push back on Sky and say that this is unacceptable. Common sense should dictate that when negotiating the TV rights contract that you'd expect the PL to insert certain dates that games can't be played on, but knowing the general incompetence of big businesses in the UK probably not. It'll only be a matter of time before Sky start pushing for Christmas day games. Allowing the proposed Christmas Eve games to go ahead takes Sky one step closer to having no limits broadcasting rights.
smallpauldj Posted 7 October 2017 Posted 7 October 2017 Another problem to this is buses finish early meaning no public transport. The roads would be a nightmare.
Nalis Posted 7 October 2017 Posted 7 October 2017 West Ham v Newcastle on Xmas Eve would be a new low for English football. If this was the plan all along then why not make it a low risk London derby like Crystal Palace v Arsenal or something?

Because it's TV and broadcasters don't give a shit about what we (I use 'we' for all football fans attending games here) want. They move Newcastle all time - already this season they've been on TV away at Brighton and Swansea, both on a Sunday. But Newcastle, well supported as they are, will sell out regardless.
tomtom Posted 7 October 2017 Posted 7 October 2017 I'd love to see some kind of protest against sky by fans of whichever clubs get chosen..... tennis balls thrown on the pitch to stop play ?

justfoxes Posted 7 October 2017 Posted 7 October 2017 Sky are taking the piss wanting this fixture to take place on Christmas Eve when most families are running around doing last min buys or getting thing sorted so that Christmas Day is a wonderful moment for their kids, I know I always take my kids for a special day on Christmas Eve we take them on a steam train to see Santa and it’s just a wonderful moment when you see your youngests face light up with joy when she meets Santa who tells her to go to bed early in her new pj’s that the elves will be leaving for her when she’s in the bath and the last minute presents that need wrapping and the table dressing for Christmas lunch ! All those important family moments that for a couple of days a year you try and make so special for your family a moment when football normally takes a back seat til Boxing Day, but no matter what sky will probably get their way and fans will turn up most with the wrath from their partners and the odd knives between their shoulder blades, and some may not return home til close to midnight or actually into Christmas Day and they don’t think about the friction this change that could be affecting some families at this time of year ! Why Sky have to FUCH about with the festive fixture list is beyond belief and I for one am hoping they come to their senses for some families sakes !! Sky you absolutely fuching stupid Cnuts !!

Trouble is then the club will get a hefty fine from the PL for something out of their hands, the only protest to Sky by fans is just simply not turning up for the games as I’m sure that wouldn’t be the best publicity for Sky !!

They've already said there's no chance of the likes of Bournemouth being on because of distance. Precisely this - if a game must be on on the sunday (which it doesn't), then you pick one that causes the least disruption to all concerned. If it's a dull sounding game then boo hoo - but there's been dull sounding games that have been spectacular (highest scoring game in the division is I think Portsmouth 7-4 reading about eight years ago; who'd have picked that as a tv game?) and big games that have been crap.

But Sky is a law unto itself it’ll put whatever game they think would give bigger audiences no matter the distance as sky doesn’t give a flying FUCH about anything/one else !!

They should throw turkeys on the pitch. If it's palace I've heard the club are throwing the first 11 turkeys on at kick off.

CosbehFox Posted 8 October 2017 Posted 8 October 2017 There's an easy compromise for Sky and PL here. Just say to Sky no Christmas Eve picks, those two games you've missed on...you can have as additional TV picks later on in the year.

red5 Posted 8 October 2017 Posted 8 October 2017 Why are we even playing utd so early, it'll be the second game against them and we wouldn't have even played watford once?

Sol thewall Bamba Posted 8 October 2017 Posted 8 October 2017 Enough cash and the Tiger's game being moved and we'll cave for sure.

orangecity23 Posted 8 October 2017 Posted 8 October 2017 Can't have both games on Christmas Eve, the traffic would be an absolute nightmare. It's already bad on Christmas Eve because of the last minute shoppers, when you add in all the Tigers fans driving in their Range Rovers from their homes in Nottinghamshire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire, plus all the Man U fans driving up from London and Torquay, and it's going to be an absolute cluster****, especially when you consider our roads are so bad (#thankssoulsby) that it only takes one broken down van on the ring road to basically shut down the entire city centre for a morning.

Always Next Year Posted 9 October 2017 Posted 9 October 2017 Scudamore and the powers that are supposed to run the Prem are in fact the reason the Prem League is in such a fcuking state. First they allow Sky to swap and change games as they wish with no regards for the fans, then they backs plans to give the big 6 more TV money, and now we have the plan to show games on Christmas Eve, be brave Scudamore stop being Sky Sports Puppets and tell them to do one. Whats next ! Make teams play 2 games on the same day. Its clear that SKY run the Prem League and not Scudamore and is friends.
sylofox Posted 9 October 2017 Posted 9 October 2017 That's all we need to fvck up Xmas. Plastic mancs singing jingle bells to us on Xmas eve ffs.
