I do get why some of the Southampton fans thought Puel was boring.

He sends the team out to control the game rather than dominate and totally overun the opposition. We're still a work in progress I think next season we could really see things starting to take shape.

Got the job done, with opposing full backs who love/hate going forward.

So you're saying Wes shouldn't be first choice by a mile, you for real

Do I think we have a better defender, yes if that’s what you mean.

Dragovic has proved he’s far superior to Morgan in all aspects of his game.

Chilwell looks a liability defensively, and Simpson also looks uncomfortable in the way we are trying to play, and gets caught out quite a bit.

He’ll put Morgan back in which will be a shame with How Drags and Mags has forged a great partnership !!

If he does, that will give me serious concerns about where he is taking us.

Decent enough. We were quite ineffective going forward and finishing moves off but we playef some nice stuff. I thought Chilwell was pretty good, certainly added more going forward than Simpson, who 100% needs replacing. If we had a RB with a good cross or attacking brain, we really could have done something with all the times Simpson pushed up and got the ball. Instead he just passes back or toe pokes a cross to nobody.

Everyone else was okay. Didnt really notice Iheanacho. More proof he doesnt really go with Vardy. Nice 1-2 passing with Mahrez that one time though.

Hopefully we win this cup..

Decent game. Thought Blackman and O'Connel were impresive for the blades. Six changes and they more than held their own.

For us I felt Ndidi was again very good. Simpson struggled first half but did improve.

Still gutted Vardy didn't run full length of the pitch Adebayor style.

L1 were getting rinsed by the blades supporters I was with on the way back to Sheff due to the sadly now predictable 'You've never won fück all, champions of England you'll never sing that' guff.

From what I've seen on the game and what people seem to be saying it sounds like we weren't at the races but they came to earn a 0-0 and get a replay? If they'd have come to nick it they probably could have? Or would we have gone through the gears?

Either way in the next round and I don't care how we do it.

They beat QPR in the final after a replay I think. The semi at Villa Park was my first away game.

Didn't think at the time that we wouldn't get to another semi for (at least 35 years)!

I bet you never thought then that we would have three league cup finals, win two of them,, loads of wembley play offs, champions league football and win the flippin league!

Think we were better than the scoreline suggested. Apart from Gray's terrible shot in the first half I was really impressed with him, had some great skills

Grey has impact when a 60 min sub.  He lacks impact when a starter.  He is really frusterating .  I believe he could be a great player but he needs to push on to a new level.

Work on his decision making. ... his defensive game... his ability to get over the ball and keep shots down.  He has to work work work... he should have his own coach to help him make the change happen

We've won three league cups,    Winners 1964, 1997, 2000 -  Runners-up 1965, 1999

We'd have gone through the gears. Comfortably better than them, they just defended well enough to keep us going side to side looking for openings quite a lot. No chance they win that game, they go for it then they've not got 11 behind the ball when it's 40 yards from their goal (a regular occurrence) and we'd have opened them up easier.

Efficient but a little dull, Chillwell played better than of late, Simpson gets a nose bleed when he gets over the half way line, Ndidi and Mahrez our 2 best players.

Im wondering if things are a little frosty between Mahrez and Vardy, no acknowledgment between the 2 after the goal (unless I missed it)

Against a team who set up to play playing 5 4 1 it was always possible we would struggle to break them down and we did.  I am going to enjoy watching Mahrez play for the

remainder of his time with us because he was sublime to watch last night.  Overall, we deserved to win and we got the job done, last thing we needed was a replay.

We are bound to get Spurs away next round so we will get to Wembley after all.

Well a win is a win I suppose but I've seen more entertaining varnish.

The match highlighted areas that clearly need improvement as many on here have alluded to. Overall though we move the ball far too slowly in what I believe they call the transistion phase. Iborra whilst he looks good on the ball is too slow for my liking. Both full back positions are an issue. Simpson defends well but time and time again last night he was the attacking outlet and though he tries that isn't his strength. Chillwell looks good going forward though his final ball is usually poor and defensively he's a liability.

Gray was typical Gray. I keep hearing the word potential; well he needs to start delivering on that potential for more than 10 minutes a game. I thought his best work last night was defensively covering for Chillwell but going forward he offered little and his corners were poor.

Iheanancho was disappointing once again. His first touch was poor and I thought his work rate wasn't great either. He and Vardy don't appear to have any real understanding of playing together.

Amazing to think that despite all the money thrown at the position we are going to have to look seriously at a new striker in the summer but the main position for me is that attacking central midfielder. One who can drop their shoulder and go past a man, someone who can make things happen from the centre of the pitch.

Our two best players on the night were Vardy and Mahrez. Vardy perhaps should have had more than one but his header back across the goal was top class. As for Mahrez, simply the best player on the pitch by a country mile. Some of his play was sublime. At times going forward it was like Mahrez vs Sheffield United. We should all just sit back and enjoy the next few matches because when he's gone we won't see such an effortlessly brilliant player in our shirt for a long long time.

Iheanacho isn't being utilised properly for me. Needs to be the no.9 on the end of moves for maximum impact. At least his work rates improving.

gray just doesn't have a footballing brain sadly. So much to work on and i don't see any improvement on the player he was 2 years ago.

I think you have to give Sheff U some credit for defending well and in numbers.

Not the best performance or match I've ever seen, but job done and we can look forward to a quarter final- hopefully we get a good draw can build up a bit of form before it.

Thought Sheff United were poor, even for a championship side- nothing to lose against a team not playing particularly well, and they barely attacked all game. Surely their fans are disappointed with that, as they've had a lot of success playing a fearless brand of football under Wilder.

Some good performances from Vardy, Mahrez, Maguire, Iborra, Chilwell. Schmeichel made a good save and got to a couple of crosses when it mattered.

My MOTM was Ndidi (again). What a player he's going to be in 3 years.

I'm concerned about the lack of movement in the final third though. It's difficult to break down teams who park the bus, and even more so when we're not working the little space available. Iheanacho isn't a number 10- thought he did okay at times but he's Vardy's long term successor up top. I'm going to disagree with everyone saying Gray had a good game too- couple of good moments, but his movement really is staggeringly poor. Every time he has space to offer for a pass and get in behind the full-back, he seems to drift inside and find his marker. Baffling.

Anyway, we won and that's all that matters in he cup. Here's hoping for a winnable draw next round!

This is why I feel Slimani still has a big part to play for us. He won't, but I think he should. Teams often let us use the wide areas as we're fairly lightweight attacking balls into the box.

Thanks for clarifying that mate! There's only so much I could take from some random I think American highlights! Good to know, I'm guessing some doom and gloom was unwarranted then?

As before though. As long as we're through!

Really cant understand the dislike for Puel by some on here?  Is trying and succeeding to change the way we play.  We are now more possession based and at times it is a joy to watch.  For as long as we have a goal scorer in Vardy, I don't think we will struggle to score.  Southamptons problems stemmed from them not having a natural goal scorer.

I also notice in games we change formation, and tactically we mix it up last night Gray and Mahrez continually swapped wings.

Granted, and he admitted, he made mistakes against Man City but for me Puel is a good manager and is a good fit for our club.

BBC website gives MOTM to Sheffield's Jack O Connell, they have written 'The 23 year old showed maturity and focus, by making the most clearances and winning the ball back then any other team mate also he had the most touches of the ball and 2nd most passes of the visitor'.

I think he he is a solid player and the reason why Sheffield have been playing well this season, and would be a great buy for us in the summer

Wouldn't surprise me- they both have completely different values within the game.

Vardy represents a more traditional footballer- content to be somewhere where he's settled and enjoys playing, values being a club legend more than a couple of potential extra medals.

Mahrez represents the modern game, short-termism and all wealth and assets gravitating towards the 'big six'. That's not a dig at him as such, it's the way the game has gone.

It's sad that players come and go so freely in modern football, but I suppose the Premier League era has been good to us so we can't really complain- 3 trophies, European adventures and a much bigger club than we were when it started.

Vardy doesn't seem to have much time for his attitude though lol

Bit harsh on Wes tbh, he was playing well before he got injured, first half of the season he was definitely one of our better players. Dragovic has come in though and been brilliant, hence why I said our centre back options are currently looking strong.

Agree on Chilwell and Simpson, shame because Simpson was our second best player behind Kasper last season.

Sure - we lost the Final in '69. But I saw City beat them 4-3 the year before in a replayed quarter-final at Filbert Street and they had much the same team the next year - so maybe there's a good omen there....somewhere.

If we do get through to Wembley and they're the opposition, which is highly likely, then it's going to be a tense afternoon. Let's hope they encounter one of Spurs, Chelsea and United in the semis - and succumb to a shock defeat. Or even better - Wigan do the dirty on them in a hard-fought 'local' derby.

I'd like to think we could beat them fair-and-square but it would be nice if we were relieved of the responsibility.

Really.. You think its unlikely they will be the opposition? I have a feeling its very likely. Dont get me wrong i know they wont prioritise this cup over the other 4? they are in ... But its still silverware. They will win the PL, i would imagine and to be winners of the FA cup in the same year is a nice accomplishment.

I am with you on the point i would love to see them knocked out, and if by lesser opposition it would make it sweeter. :D Just don't see it happening, even if they play their squad players they will still be a more focused & better side :(

But, wouldnt the glory be greater, If WE got them in the final, and Puel-Appleton,do their

Magic with the Team.Mahez and Nacho, have Blinders, Silva-Ndidi sublime in midfield,

Then Mahrez decided to stay......Oohhh Just think about it.!!!

Or would they be weaker, and more suscepatable to an AVG performance,If WE Draw them

Now and Play them In a Couple of weeks..

My Pension years would be complete,If we could lift that elusive Trophy, have a 8yr positive

Run in the PL,to Take me into a dottling  old age.

To See foxes,Burnley,Everton being the new old adverseries with Spurs lagging again behind.

Ah Well being a  foxes Fan,allowes me to dream,I Just Wish other foxes Fans, werent so damn

Miserable in playing Drama Queens.Even in our Modest History, and small success,Majority

Of British and European Fans, dont See their Clubs even  reach our Modest hights.

The FA.cup, in our locker would, slightly annoy the "TREES" down the Road.

I don't think it's necessarily mutual between Vardy and Mahrez. Thought the latter kept trying to play in Vardy all night, something which we didn't see much last season.

Mahrez also looked a bit embarrassed IMO when he came off, which suggests he understands he has to redeem himself for his behaviour.
