We better have a good replacement lined up - we've had plenty of time to prepare.

Any idea @StanSP who it could be?

Sadly not! I know lots of people in the club's hierarchy get a lot of stick but they really haven't just been twiddling their thumbs waiting for something to happen lol

True. Both clubs want business done early though. If they miss out on targets now, the later on in the window it is and clubs get more desperate, meaning they may have to pay more for any player they want.

Surely Man City is not going to pay 75 m for Riyad as he's not worth that amount. I'm 80% sure he's staying if Chelsea ManU or Arsenal don't come and bid for him.

The new fella played left back under Puel for Nice, so i'd imagine he could cover in emergencies. I'm not certain about Chilwell, but I think there could be something in there and it's worth sticking with IMO. At least until January, if he struggles the first part of the season, then I'd make a move.

I'd agree, his has some good attributes, for me its if he can learn from his mistakes.

Also I think bedding in a new CB and RB, is going to take time without chucking in a new LB as will

For me I think we will looking decent if we can secure Evans, and one more CB maybe Dragovic or someone else of a good enough quality.

If we can start the season with these options it will have been a decent window from a tighting up the defence point of view.

RB:PEREIRA > SIMPSON

CB: MAGUIRE, EVANS > MORGAN, + NEW CB

LB: CHILWELL > FUCHS

Makes sense to get it done early I agree and to be fair the WC will be a distraction anyway and once that is over we are right to deadline day this year!

What we definitely don't want happening is the City transfer going late and not being completed and the window closing, leaving Roma and other European clubs the best part of 3 weeks to sign Mahrez without us being able to replace him!

Just hope went don't do a Spurs with the way they used the 'Bale' money or Everton with the Lukaku money.

With the Mahrez money and this season transfer budget, we could be spending north of a 100 million

This is my biggest worry and I am not optimistic. I can't think of a situation where a team successfully replaced a key big money player in recent years:

- Robin Van Persie.
Arsenal got Giroud who did a job but nowhere near Van Persie's level who bagged 30 goals in his last season at Arsenal and won the title for Man U the next year.

- Luis Suarez.
Liverpool spunked the cash on a bunch of forgettable players and ended up with Balotelli FFS! Eventually they got Salah, but that was years later.

- Ronaldo.

Can't even remember, but I know that a past-it Michael Owen ended up with the 7 shirt. Man U went onto win more trophies, but Ronaldo went on to win 3 (maybe 4) Champions League trophies. I think Valencia replaced him in his position.

- Bale.
Spurs brought several meh players. Only one I can remember is Lamela who has been OK at best. Kane was home grown.

- Van Dijk.
Southampton were lucky not to be relegated this season. Hoedt is poor by comparison.

- Lukaku.
Everton brought absolute dross and eventually replaced him with Tosun and Walcott, neither of whom are anywhere near the same level.

It also happened with us when Kante left. Ndidi is great and probably the best replacement we could have got, but he's no Kante. His stats are great, but he is not the one man tackling / interception machine that Kante was when he played for us, who I don't think ever had a bad game for us.

That's why Mahrez is worth so much money. To get a player as good as he is to come into the team and perform immediately... it won't happen unless you get lucky and given how much luck we've seen here in recent times, I am not counting my chickens! I hope we can get through it, but it's very easy to picture a scenario where we are struggling for creativity next season and have no one to turn to. The manager is already getting boos for the team not being creative with Mahrez in the side!

Agents and club officials will either be on holiday or at the WC.

It would be nice to see a club like Chelsea just slap in a £75m offer and force Man City to put up or shut up.

Mahrez's value is just snobbery, if he was playing for a top club then they'd just pay the asking price. Mahrez has world class stats over the last three seasons and you only have to look at his highlight reel to see he's an outstanding technical footballer.

The snobbery extends not only to his club but his nationality. If he was playing for France his valuation would sky rocket as we would see him being one of the best players in the French national team and there would be evidence he can still excel with top class players around him.

I read something that provoked my thought on nationality bumping values up. Soccernomics reckons English, Dutch and Brazilian players are all over-priced. I can find it believable.

I'm more than happy to give Chilwell another season with Fuchs as back up.

This time next year when Fuchs will be leaving will be a good time to assess whether we bring in an upgrade on Chilwell or an understudy.

Was Chilwell injured for the last 2 games?

Wondering why Fuchs was picked ahead of him.

If we were to go for a left back I'd love us to look at Ausburg's Phillip Max.

Direct, pacey and good on the ball. Unbelievable cross on him too. Got no end of assists last season.

Don't want to be too picky but you were happy with the defence at Xmas. Had we bought replacements for RB & CB we may well be in Europe next season.

I can see why we may wait till Xmas but giving him a full season seems too long for me.

And how much have we made from the good signings about 70 million from mahrez alone .oh and not forgetting winning the league and the money from that.but yes there have been some turkeys but I think our good buys outweigh the bad generally. Not many teams are faultless when it comes to transfers look at pogba.

This is a bit of a risk as he has looked dodgy in quite a few games, but I do think we have other priorities right now and think Fuchs still has another decent season in him and will at least push Chilwell for a start.

Puel also seems to like Chilwell and perhaps with a stronger CB pairing, Chilwell can really progress this year.

I actually think Puel will try Simpson at LB sometimes to enable him to cut in onto his right foot in the final 3rd

Puel absolutely loves Chilwell, there's no way we're getting another left back this summer. I imagine we'll replace Fuchs next summer with someone cheap or another youngster. We all might want someone better than Chilwell but the reality is Puel thinks he's the complete player, scary but he might eventually be proven right.

I still wonder if he'll try and sign Dalbert. His left back at Nice and out of favour at Inter. Only 24 too. Could see that on loan.

It's good that we're selling mahrez early this means we've got till august to replace him

Think we will need to sign 2 wingers or a winger and no.10 to get anywhere close to replacing him.

RM - Roberts/Albrighton    LM - Gray/Diabate   No.10 - Silva/Maddison

Perhaps a tad optimistic on how well these youngsters adapt to the Premier League but a decent looking future line-up if nothing else.
