With both teams having nothing to play for, being free, and previously being attack minded, normally I'd expect this to actually be a good game, akin to that 5-2 in the title winning season actually. But with us now it will be a training game for Arsenal, they'll pick us off every time we misplace a 5 yard sideways pass on the halfway line. I hope Arsenal show any remaining Puel-hopers what possession football really is.

I havent looked forward to a game less than this one for god knows how long.  Im dreading sitting there waiting for the inevitable backing off by Morgan to let one of theor forwards in. And then the onslaught begins...

thankfully i missrd saturday but this is going to be worse i fear

Please let’s not be all miserable and negative tonight. Life’s too short. Ignore the dreadful managerial situation. It will sort itself out.

Two things. This will be Riyad’s last home game. Let’s celebrate his magic. And let’s get behind a man none of us can doubt with a long rendition of Jamie Vardy’s having a party and England’s number nine to send our talisman off to Russia with our loving endorsement.

Lestah til I die

I'm hearing all of that.

Woke up feeling quite good, cold crisp springg morning, sun is shining, been for a walk, picked up the paper, realised we're going to get mullered!!

Until we see the arsenal line up we can’t assume much

they have nothing to play for at all and players must be worrying about their world cups in this situation. Given what happened to Koscielny last week, wenger could well pick a side with few players who will be involved in Russia.

We might be better off with their first team all playing and really getting in and amongst them early on

if our attitude is slack then we will prob  get beaten by three or four

I think you're right.  Spurs England players are frightened of injury like the ox.... the arse boyz wont want to pick up an injury like koscielny.  I predict a very dull game.  We can liven things up by encouraging vichai to abandon puel.

The players could liven things up by actually making  tackle - not a trip - a proper tackle!   Mind you, need to get near an opposition player for that to happen .........

Not me, I'm off down the pub! Not just forgetting the managerial situation but the footballing one too. You're right, life is indeed too short (though our recent matches bring that into question) Football? What's that!? ;)

We've scored 2 goals in the last 7 and a half hours of football & 0 goals in the last 5 hours of football so I'm really positive about the Puel revolution going into tonight!

In fairness we've played some tough opposition in that time. Especially at home. It's a hell of an achievement to pick up 1 point from an available 12 against such impressive opposition. As a reminder, we faced: Southampton (18th), Crystal Palace (14th), Newcastle (13th) & West Ham (16th).

1 point. 1 goal. Genuinely completely pathetic. Buzzing for tonight!!!

Yes but you’re forgetting 1 major point, we had lots of possession in those games, never did much with it mind but that possession stat that’s what counts!

Lestah til I die

Almost certainly this.

The most gifted genius we've ever had. We will miss him for sure if and when he leaves.

Will y’all quit wishing for a big defeat for the “noble” purpose of pushing Puel out.

How can you get enjoyment watching the footy if you are hoping for poor play from our own, many of whom will be the basis for next season’s squad?

The reasonable conclusion is that Puel is already skating toward his severance payment.  If by some chance the club mean to retain him, it will be to engineer a complete remake, so crap performances by an injury-ridden squad won’t change that.  Any degree of turnaround going into the long summer is medicine we need.

This is the Arse, at home!  We owe them a few just in the few years I’ve been paying attention.  I for one will don the Happy Clapper armband.  And will be happy if we see an odds-defying performance, not another abject loss that proves anybody right about a failed manager.

I've never ever been able to support a side against us, even on those occasions when you wonder if it's for the best.

While I suspect Puel needs to go, I'd love him to turn it round. A couple of good end-of-season results with an injury-battered squad might regenerate some belief, and it would lead us with a man in charge who has a long-term project in mind and an idea of how to implement it. I can't see it happening, but it sounds good enough.

That said, there's also the danger of a single errant result giving us a false impression of being in good shape for next season. Remember the win against Spurs in May 2001? It's dangerous to put yourself in a position where too much attention is focused on one or two results. A single positive result against a big side may either cause us to make a decision based on that, or fire him anyway and create a rod for the incoming manager's back.

In that respect, it's true that some defeats can actually be a good thing for a side if they prompt a necessary action. Had we lost that game to Spurs, Taylor may have been fired. Had we not slumped to Sheffield United in March 1996, it may never have provided O'Neill with the springboard to his side's resurgence, or the motivation to prove his critics wrong.

While I won't be able to back the opposition, I can understand why some fans might reflect that one bad result could have positive consequences. Meanwhile I'll cling on to the forlorn hope that Puel can provide the back-to-back wins that demonstrate it hasn't all gone to dust.
