Diabate - What should we do?

I actually think there's a real player in there, and would like to see him kept on at the expense of Demarai Gray, who I feel just hasn't got a good head on his shoulders to work hard and improve.

Mo, he's not ready to play regularly but with a bit of decent coaching and experience genuinely think he can become a world beater

I thought he was ok last season, really liked his application and the runs he was making caused defences all sorts of problems. His issue then and now is the final ball, it's always rushed and he just hits it without any real idea of what he's trying to do.

He hasnt done himself any favours in pre-season thats for sure, but he has been played on the left on the right and in the middle so he is hardly going to be awesome.

Bless him he looks to be really trying when he is on the pitch and seems to get on well with the squad.

He isnt a replacement for Mahrez, that's for sure but i wouldn't right him off completely. He is still really young. Preferably he gets sent out on loan (seems highly unlikely now though) or plays the majority of his games with the u23's & makes a few cup games for experience.

I dont think it was a bad shout buying him, as he cost us next to nothing.

I'll be brutally honest, he's had a shit pre season and looks nowhere near Premier League standard, right now he looks like a player who could even struggle with the Under 23's, Josh Gordon and Layton Ndukwu done more in 30 mins than Diabate did in 75.

His form is a cause for concern, especially with the way our wing options are, fail to get anybody in we'll have to rely on Gray and Albrighton or maybe even give The Moose a shot if he's still here by then.

I'd put a poll up if it bloody worked but it doesn't so...

What would you do with Diabate...

Gamble and give him a chance?

Loan him out?

Send him with the Under 23's?

He's rubbish!

Get rid.

A poor man's Lloyd Dyer.

Oh good another scapegoat! Musa and Slimani are barely out the door and already the usual suspects are circling a new victim like hyenas on wounded baby gazelle!

he's 22 and started 6 competitive games for Leicester, lets not write the poor Fucher of just yet lads!

So surprised at some of the impressions of him on here. He's obviously the next one to split opinion (was Gallagher class or a liability?  Was Bamba fantastic to watch or a bomb scare? Was Nugent out of his depth in the PL or did he make the team better?).

Personally I think he's going to be a top player. He tries things, he plays at a great tempo, he doesn't shy away from having the ball, he's pacy.

People saying he did nothing after Peterborough are exaggerating hugely. I for one remember him changing the game at Brighton by playing in between the lines and causing havoc.

The final ball will come. The point is that if you give Diabate the ball 5 times then 4 times he'll try something that no one else in the squad could try. You need players like that to unlock top defences. Yes, he needs refining but he's young and he's come from the French second division.

People writing him off will look silly in a couple of years time.

Diabate is a live wire - raw but plenty of potential. He's capable of impacting games from the bench if nothing else. Whilst he could probably benefit from a loan, we're short in wide areas and he's good enough to be in and around the squad.

Give him time, He's only gaining his strength. I don't see him as regular starter yet but he is an impact player. Someone who can turn a game in our favor.

He'll be hit and miss when we do see him but gaining in confidence all the time. Then hopefully he'll make the breakthrough.

For now a work in progress.

Yep, agree with this. Was tricky against Man City as well in the first 45 minutes.

Hes a young lad, facing a confidence slump. He needs time. He loses the ball mostly in the attempt of doing something. I’d rather that than needlessly whacking the ball down the line (cough....Chilwell...cough...Albrighton...)

Dosent really have any maturity to his game atm, I’d give him another year or a loan spell, think he’d be a great player if he didn’t just concentrate on step overs, in other words, SIGN A WINGER ???

It was Diabate's pass that found Maddison for our goal against Valencia.

He had some poor pre season matches. Then improved against Valencia.

I thought he was a little better last night but agree that he’s not ready to be a PL starter. I’d much rather persevere with Musa myself, though this doesn’t seem to be a popular view.

Musa's already gone if reports this morning are to be believed.

lol I'm not scapegoating anybody.

As a fan, as someone who has watched him in all the pre season games, I'm just being honest and saying he's been shit which he has.

All I'm asking for is opinions on what we should do, the lad has been hit and miss ever since he came through the door, his form right now is worrying.

I hate the word "scapegoat". Can't we criticise any player ffs.

Of course - I suspect it's the old difference of opinion about what constitutes criticism, and what constitutes unconstructive slagging off.

Great impact player against tired legs and a decent backup player, but he has nowhere near enough quality in the final third to be considered a regular Premier League starter.

Posted

We cant loan him out currently as we just don't have enough creativity/pace in the wide areas.

Without doubt this kid has talent but needs more consistency to his game that's all. He'll learn that the more he plays.

We're just too impatient these days as fans and want someone to be a world beater straight away

Get him out on loan. Failing that he should be used mainly as a sub, for me.

Hes had one good game against a league 1 side. Little end product. Did he actually contribute to a goal in the Prem?

I know he’s only young but he loses the ball a lot and rarely wins it back and often makes the wrong decision. I’m sure he’ll be useful in the future but he’s just not ready yet.

Right now.

That can change. A loan would be absurd, I'd keep him in this squad and  see how he'll fare this season.
