He’s ok. Both him and Wilf are very defensive though. I still believe we are missing a central midfield playmaker. Some of our passing remains not brilliant to be honest.

Ndidi is V defensive but Mendy is much more than that. His passing has been more than decent this year.

Mendy is getting better week by week and will continue to improve.

It was always unfair to lump him in with the 2016 signings like Musa, Slimani, Hernandez, Zieler. He hardly played until 2 weeks ago.

For me he has been our best player so far this season which is an incredible turnaround for someone whose days looked numbered. Workrate is immense and seems to always take the right option on the ball.

Keep this up and we could have a fight on out hands next summer to hold onto him.

My fear is though what seems like a curse on the summer signings of 2016. Magnificent so far but I've a horrible feeling that he could get injured again very soon. Hope I'm wrong as we have a serious player if he stays injury free.

I wonder if the answer to that might just be Maddison needing to drop a bit deeper though. At times Maddison was ahead of Gray!

Think Mendy and Ndidi's jobs are more to keep us ticking than be the creative ones.

I remember someone once called N'golo 'footballing glue'.

Mendy is doing a similar thing, in a different way. You can see why he was on the fringes of the French national side, because that is one hell of a short passing game.

Just imagine Kante and Mendy as a midfield for a minute, revenge of the diddymen or what? :D

They are good at breaking up attacks and both had good games. However neither are great on the ball. I think we should be playing both Iborra and Silva with either Mendy or Ndidi

I'm glad im not the only to think this. Mendy gets about alot but his passing leaves alot to be desired. I am still not convinced by him, he may get about abit but give the ball away more than he recovers it. Once he sorts his passing out he will be a great player.

Some of his first time touches to move away from players and then drive past them was excellent. He's no Kante and never will be but he's very well rounded which is what we need for that double-pivot.

Class isn’t he :) brilliant to see him settled, must have been hugely frustrating.

I agree. I lot of them hadn't even seen him play.

We do have some fans who like to walk on the negative side of the street.

Thats just a reflection of a section of society in general. I sh*t you not but a few seasons ago there was a guy sat a few seats away from us who would complain all game and I mean ALL game. What blew me away was the fact that when Leicester scored he would literally sit - not jumping up and down like the rest of us - scowling with his arms folded. Almost "Well Leicester doing well is NOT what i need to see!"

I swear that he's on this forum when I read some of the comments!

His passing is better than Ndidi's, although that isn't necessarily difficult. Mendy always tries to push the ball forward which is good, and I seem to remember video clips of some really fantastic long balls at Nice when we were signing him.

It’s decided. My next shirt will be a Mendy.

Leave it in your bottom draw for two years and then reveal it an blaze of glory…

He’s been better than ok this season Imo.

There’s no disputing at all he’s started very well, but I share Col’s opinion that both he and N’didi are two very defensive midfielders (which is not a dig at the players as both do their job very well), however Maddison will need to massively step up, at the moment I think he drifts through games not doing a great deal at times, and then can be a bit too greedy at other times. At the moment, Ricardo and Albrighton are our best creative attacking options.

I don’t think you can play our system with anything other than two solid defensive (and energetic) players in that double pivot. One of them on their own would be too swamped - playing them both is what allows us to have two attacking wide players, a CAM/supporting striker and a centre forward, plus attacking wing backs.

I would certainly have said release/sell Mendy before the start of the season, but he’s come in and is doing a better job in that position than anyone else has. Iborra would be my second choice, once he settled last season he looked fairly solid. I think Silva has been frustrating and does not seem to have either the presence or short passing game to play that position how Puel wants it.

Either way, I don’t think you take out Ndidi or Mendy to swap for a playmaker. That would overbalance the attack in my view. Maddison can be the creative influence, maybe he just needs to drop a little more.
