chris_lcfc_85 Posted 20 November 2018 Posted 20 November 2018 Don't see the issue here.... 1 year deal for Wes as a squad player would be fine plus crucial experience in helping the younger guys. People saying he's finished don't understand the game. He's clearly not as good as he was but he's had more good games than bad games this season. The two red cards haven't helped his case and the Everton game was his worst game I can remember in a Leicester shirt. However, 4 league clean sheets this season and he's played in 3 of them. People need to look around and realise there's a lot of poor defenders at this level so im completely fine with him getting another year. I wouldn't make him a starter but another year suits all parties I'd guess
The Horse's Mouth Posted 20 November 2018 Posted 20 November 2018 Think people are too harsh on Morgan tbh, I hope he gets another deal. I imagine he'll be slowly getting phased out, but I think he's had a reasonably good season with the exception of the Everton game. Why get rid of an experienced pro like Morgan, makes no sense
Jimmy Posted 20 November 2018 Posted 20 November 2018 Puel doesn't do the contracts that's Rudkin's job

Personally thought maguire and Ricardo were worse that day. Morgan has been good in a few games this season, simple fact. Yes he's had a couple of poor games too, doesn't mean he's finished
tetly Posted 20 November 2018 Posted 20 November 2018 Our most successful captain ever should be able to retire here. Morgan Vardy And Schmeichel are invaluable characters leaders that aren’t easy to replace. His playing time will reduce but why not let him phase out into a coaching role. I Would like all three of them involved at our club well after they finish playing. Nothing but respect for them.

Agreed and for all the criticism he gets on here, as a future sub he's still head and shoulders above a number of clubs centre halves in the Premiership.
Jimmy Posted 20 November 2018 Posted 20 November 2018 You can’t carry someone because they used to be good enough

Gamble92 Posted 21 November 2018 Posted 21 November 2018 Can we give him another year and put a clause in saying if he ends his career at forest he has to give his medals back?
VLC86 Posted 21 November 2018 Posted 21 November 2018 Even if we bring Benkovic back he deserves a new 1 year deal. He’s better than Benny as a player and around the squad and he will be ****ed off soon.
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 21 November 2018 Posted 21 November 2018 Hes fine against teams without pace but has been seriously at fault / a liability when weve played against sides with a quick forward. He needs moving on, and ive heard the chat about a new contract, however that would really suprise me particularly as there isnt room for him and evans.
eblair Posted 21 November 2018 Posted 21 November 2018 wes deserves to retire here, our most successful captain ever and someone who has performed quite well when he's played this season he's had some shocking refereeing decisions against him
Suzie the Fox Posted 21 November 2018 Posted 21 November 2018 I'm 50/50 tbh, I wouldn't be against him getting a +1 year contract but only if he was phased out and played a minor role. That might seem harsh to some as he has been amazing for us in recent years, but sadly time is catching up with him (as it does all of us) and i personally would like to see the younger guys being integrated more. That doesnt seem to happening with Wes still about. Hence the 50/50.

AyewJoking Posted 21 November 2018 Posted 21 November 2018 Probably more to do with "looking after" family. I mean no offence when i touch on how vichai looked out for his family, rewarding players with contracts that go beyond football reasons. Matty james and ulloa for example. Wes could not play a minute next season but still be paid more than he'd get anywhere else.
Sionnach gorm Posted 21 November 2018 Posted 21 November 2018 I’m not sure I understand the reason behind Morgan finishing his career here at Leicester. I didn’t see that sort of loyalty to other players or managers. So what does Morgan have that the others did not? Personally I wouldn’t object to Morgan staying on, but at what cost to the program?
filbertway Posted 21 November 2018 Posted 21 November 2018 If we want to give him more money than he should be earning, then just give him a massive bonus and clear a pathway in the squad for newer talent. It's always a shame when a player begins to tarnish their good work at a club by staying around longer than they should. Hopefully the back end of this season he's phased out in place of the new fellas.
Gerard Posted 21 November 2018 Posted 21 November 2018 I've been one of Morgan's biggest defenders on here as a lot of fans make him the scapegoat for anything poor defensively. However he'll be nearer 36 than he will be 35 at the start of next season and with Maguire secure in his place and spending a fortune on Evans, Soyuncu and Benkovic this summer then something is drastically wrong if we feel we need to retain an ageing Morgan.
Haywood_6 Posted 21 November 2018 Posted 21 November 2018 Wes deserves a lot of respect for what he's achieved. Defensively he's always been pretty dependable. But he's getting too old and the game is getting too quick. Two red cards, a few ugly tackles. He's cost us points this season. We've spent all this money on Evans, Soyuncu and Benkovic. Let them play ffs!
Lovejoy Posted 21 November 2018 Posted 21 November 2018 Sentiment won't progress the football club. A lower wage and bit part role would be ideal, assuming the player is happy to share his experience more off the field than on it. If that can't be agreed though a parting of the ways would be best.

Also easy to say they should get life time contracts when your not paying the wage. But hey let's keep all our over the hill players and strangle the life out of the club.
