Waddatheynoinnit? "The middle clutch of Premier League teams are all frustrating, the type of sides who make you stare at a losing accumulator slip and vow to never include them again. Over this Christmas period alone, Leicester lost to Cardiff but beat Manchester City and Chelsea, Wolves beat Tottenham but lost to Crystal Palace, West Ham won away at Southampton but were outplayed by Burnley and Watford beat West Ham away but failed to beat Newcastle at home. But Puel and Leicester deserve a little more credit than most, despite that Cardiff blip. The Frenchman constantly seems to be swimming against a tide of negativity, never more than three games from crisis and a clutch of Southampton and Leicester supporters remarking that they “told you so”. Puel has now reached 60 matches in charge, only 21 fewer than Ranieri managed, but he has never felt like a permanent option. Over the festive period, the Premier League’s middle seven collected points as follows: Leicester – 9 Watford, Brighton – 5 Wolves, West Ham, Bournemouth – 4 Everton – 3 That all makes Leicester the only team outside the Big Six with a positive goal difference this season, and the only team outside the top six with more wins than losses. After a particularly sticky patch, Puel should be back in considerable credit" Edited 3 January 2019 by Koke 13

Popular Post Koke Posted 3 January 2019 Popular Post Share Posted 3 January 2019 I do find it amazing that a man who has finished 8th and 9th, and on course for yet another top 10 finish is hated so fiercely by a large chunk of two clubs fans. If any other manager achieved 3 consecutive top 10 finishes with clubs the stature of Southampton and Leicester he would be lauded with unlimited praise.

We have 3 centre halfs in Evans, Maguire and Morgan who are all in good form lately, 2 full backs who love to attack in Chilwell and Ricardo and allowing ourselves to play 2 up top with 1 in behind gives us so much more attacking presence. For some reason though Puel has never seemed favourable of a 352. Ultimately, his time will be determined on his stubbornness to change system at home. Home performances have been boring and turgid and say what you like but this is down to Puel and the way he sets us up. The personnel are there, be brave. I don't think it's a system he's played per se though he did sort of tactically play it towards the end of a couple of games when Armarty moved inside. For me it's always a system of choice for teams that are not confident in defence. I'd always prefer the extra more mobile midfielder personally who can cover defensively whilst fullbacks push forward and then offer more in certain other situations. I agree. The question isn’t whether they’d want him back. Of course they’ll say no in the same we would say no if we’d sacked him last summer and we were having a tough season now. The question is, looking back would you rather have kept Puel and given him another season rather than have Pelligrino and Hughes? Again, those defending their Puel out stance would say sacking Puel was fine, it was appointing Pelligrino that was wrong. However, as I’ve said previously, be careful what you wish for, the grass is not always greener.
