Christian Fuchs to Aston Villa

Aston Villa make transfer move for Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs

Aston Villa have enquired about taking Leicester City's Christian Fuchs on loan until the end of the season.

Villa are short of cover at left-back and boss Dean Smith has identified the former Austrian international as the man to help the club's promotion push.

Fuchs, 32, has been kept out of the picture at the King Power Stadium by Claude Puel's decision to promote Ben Chilwell to the first-team.

And that has paid off spectacularly as the home-grown youngster has progressed to England's senior squad.

Villa have Neil Taylor as their only recognised defender in that area and although Alan Hutton has deputised on that side in the Welshman's absence through injury, it has upset the balance in Smith's rearguard.

Fuchs was given a hefty pay rise following Leicester's shock title win two years ago and wouldn't arrive on the cheap.

Leicester would want Villa to pay all of his contract – reportedly in the £60,000-a-week range - if they were to allow the deal to go ahead.

For his part, Fuchs would welcome the chance to play regular first-team football and if any arrangement was organised to be financially attractive for him, then he may look to cut his ties with the former Premier League champs.

The player, whose wife is American, has made little secret of his desire to live Stateside in the future and it was only the offer of a fresh pay hike back in 2016 that saw his plans put temporarily on hold.

He is out-of-contract anyway in the summer and is likely to resume his career in Major League Soccer at the end of this campaign.

Probably a non-story as it would leave us short of cover, but...

That's it really!! Cover and potential cup run with rest and rotation!!

Plus it's been mentioned, that he interested in a few seasons in the USA league...risk of championship incurred injury, would put

a damper on that.....

we could probably get a decent back up and pay less than half the wages..

if like to keep him but he’s an expensive back up

Ain't my money, but he's still a top man. Don't want to leave us with no cover. And a legend, who many would want to show their gratitude, with

a last home game!!!

With all due respect I don't think Top is scrambling around like we did on the early Football Manager game, trying to raise funds to entice Arnar Gunnlaugsson's step brother to the club on a part time contract.

Don't see why we'd give up our only left-back cover and purposely leave ourselves short in that position.

Fuchs seems happy enough knowing he's back-up anyway. I'm sure his sights are set on leaving for USA and setting up his next stage of his sporting career (NFL?)...

There’s literally no point in him leave now. It’s not like he needs to gain profile for a move to another English club. He’s settled in his home for the remainder of his contract and is well paid and seemingly happy too. From our perspective it makes no sense either, he’s a top draw back up to Chillwell.

agreed but  it doesn’t matter how rich you are FFP is FFP and if you want to bring someone in then maybe you have to juggle things round for a bit..

Getting rid of Fuchs now when he's leaving in the summer anyway and has a real value to the squad makes no sense.  Especially since by all accounts he's a good clubhouse guy and has taken his demotion pretty well.

Why would we?

Let's pay Fuchs and let him go OR keep him for 5 months before he leaves for the U.S.

Fuchs wouldn't want to go there and play either. He's happy with his bit part, pay and free time with us.

I can't see this happening on 2 levels...I'm not being disrespectful (well, maybe a little) but Fuchs is far too good for the championship. We need him here as cover. One injury to Chilwell and we'll be screwed.

Be sad to see him go a the end of the season. Been very good for us. One of the most memorable left backs along side Bruno Burner
