Guest Kopfkino Posted 15 February 2019 Posted 15 February 2019 https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/02/15/upshot/british-irish-dialect-quiz.html Pretty good this, nailed it as a general area (East Mids to a bit East) and had me down somewhere around Leicestershire/Northamptonshire - couldn't tell where the circle was exactly.
Voll Blau Posted 15 February 2019 Posted 15 February 2019 Also came out as spot on for me. Much more interesting than the anoydyne "what do you call a bread roll?" Facebook memes you see all the time. Hopefully this will be of some use to dialectologists, although I suspect it won't come out completely accurate as people might take more notice of comparing how the words on the screen look to them rather than what they actually sound like when they speak naturally.
AKCJ Posted 15 February 2019 Posted 15 February 2019 In either from Liverpool, Gloucester or Cambridge apparently.
bovril Posted 15 February 2019 Posted 15 February 2019 I got East Anglia or the south coast, so pretty accurate.
Blarmy Posted 15 February 2019 Posted 15 February 2019 Pretty sure it’s only the cob question that’s used to calculate the answer.
Suzie the Fox Posted 15 February 2019 Posted 15 February 2019 Nottingham/Wolverhampton - not too far off i guess

Jimothy Posted 15 February 2019 Posted 15 February 2019 Nottingham/Peterborough, so pretty much smack in the middle of that.
ealingfox Posted 15 February 2019 Posted 15 February 2019 Anyone else find nothing shown where the map should be? Either it's a malfunction or my dialect is so unusual it can't be placed.

Nalis Posted 15 February 2019 Posted 15 February 2019 Norn Irish, glad my many years in Dublin and London havent tainted my beloved droll...
RonnieTodger Posted 15 February 2019 Posted 15 February 2019 They could've skipped the first 24 questions and just asked the bread roll one

Stadt Posted 15 February 2019 Posted 15 February 2019 I did it earlier and got Nottingham and the West Midlands slightly. Did it again just now, I chose fewer of the multiple choice options this time and almost all of the East Midlands was dark red but it centred upon Lincoln. I’ve got no idea what the Lincoln accent is like tbh, would imagine it’s (obviously) somewhat similar.

Izzy Posted 15 February 2019 Posted 15 February 2019 I got Stoke FFS. Mum from Nottingham, Dad from Lancs so about half way I guess.
The Doctor Posted 16 February 2019 Posted 16 February 2019 Pretty much all of the midlands is red and the rest not highlighted, with the red circle on Lincoln (and Nottingham & Wolverhampton listed on the map) - and I'm pretty sure that's just the cob question - it's the only one that also shows that narrow.
Parafox Posted 16 February 2019 Posted 16 February 2019 Apparently I'm a Russian spy equipped with Novatchok
