davieG Posted 5 March 2019 Posted 5 March 2019 City's accounts take big financial hit http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/leicester-city-accounts-took-big-2611029#ICID=ios_leicestermercury_ios_AppShare_Click_Other Leicester City 2017/18 Financial Results Leicester City Football Club has published its annual accounts for the year-ending 31 May 2018, highlighting the Club’s continued commitment to continually reinvesting in its long-term future. Turnover of £158.9M (£233M in 2017) was only the second time the Club has posted an income over £150M and compared favourably with the £128.7M of 2016 and the £104.4M of 2015. Gate receipts of £12.9M also compared favourably with previous seasons – up 11 per cent by comparison with 2016 and 2015, despite the continued freeze of Season Ticket prices. In the wake of the Club’s successful run in the lucrative UEFA Champions League 12 months previously, profits for 2017/18 were predictably significantly reduced. The Club recorded a pre-tax profit of £1.6M for the year ending 31 May 2018, compared with a record £92.5M in for the year ending May 2017. Increased operating playing costs and continued investment in player registrations reflect the Club’s commitment to equip its squad and football operation to be a consistent, long-term competitor in the Premier League, aspiring to re-enter UEFA competition in the future. That ambition is matched by the Club’s on-going investment in the development of a state-of-the-art new training facility in north Leicestershire and its proposed expansion of King Power Stadium. Sitting securely among the King Power Group of Companies, the Club’s future course continues to be safely navigated by the Srivaddhanaprabha family, whose successful and responsible ownership of Leicester City will begin its 10th season in August 2019. Leicester City Chief Executive Susan Whelan said: “The accounts of the previous two years have reflected unique seasons in Leicester City’s history, where our intention to invest in our future have been supported by considerable competition revenue. “The accounts of 2017/18 demonstrate our continued commitment to ensuring revenues generated are reinvested into building a squad and infrastructure capable of competing at such levels on a more consistent basis. “At a time when our biggest investment projects are visibly beginning to take shape, Leicester City supporters can feel excited about what the future holds for their Club and confident in the King Power Group’s vision to take them there.”
Nicolo Barella Posted 5 March 2019 Posted 5 March 2019 To be expected, we'll likely not recieve a CL windfall for a long, long time, possibly never again.
Wolfox Posted 5 March 2019 Posted 5 March 2019 Well run club…. Seems to be a not for profit ethos We are continually reminded of how lucky we are to have the owners we do…
urban.spaceman Posted 5 March 2019 Posted 5 March 2019 Explains the huge loan we took out then. Honestly, I’d be happy to hold off on the KP expansion for a while as it’s not as important as the training ground and we don’t want to end up squandering cash on something that isn’t a priority and could be detrimental to the development of the squad, like what’s happened to Arsenal and Tottenham. Great that we’re spending within our means too but that also means we'll have to sell one big player to buy two or three again.
Ric Flair Posted 5 March 2019 Posted 5 March 2019 I think there will be the need to move on a sellable asset like Maguire or Chilwell to fund 6+ transfers needed in the summer.

Maguire seems more likely to me, even though Chilwell’s had the better season. Chilly’s still only 22 and I think he recognises that he could develop even better under Rodgers. As it stands there’s nobody in the squad who could take his place if he does leave (Fuchs is out of contract in the summer). Maguire’s just turned 26 and is arguably* replaceable in the CB position especially with Benkovic coming back. Again though, he’s not had a brilliant season perhaps due to staying in the World Cup for so long. A good rest over the summer and he could have a brilliant season under Rodgers if he stays. Personally I think it would be a huge statement if we retained all our big players and restricted our expenditure during the summer. There will be a load of the title winners off the wage bill and I reckon we only need a few quality signings to improve the squad, starting with Tielemans. *expects arguments to ensue
st albans fox Posted 5 March 2019 Posted 5 March 2019 after posting a huge profit last season and no doubt paying a big CT bill, good to see us back amongst the 'amazons and starbucks' type amounts wrt to our income. doesn't do any harm to only show a small profit when you're negotiating fees with agents and clubs. you cant really turn a profit of 92m and claim you cant afford another 5m for a player ……. those extra league places do matter ………………..

Liability is harsh, but I do agree Maguire is not essential and defensively quite suspect. We already have Soyuncu and Benkovic and I think one of those can probably step up to a similar level. If Man U came in for 60M again it would probably be wise to cash in. At the moment Chilwell is essential to the way we play. Kasper always hits him on the diagonal from goal kicks and though Chilwell doesn't assist much, his driving runs make the space for others to work in.

HankMarvin Posted 5 March 2019 Posted 5 March 2019 37m net spend on Transfers that season 17m net this, so 20m better off next time
LestaAl Posted 5 March 2019 Posted 5 March 2019 Ticket sales provide revenue of only £13m out of a total of £159m. No wonder the fans wishes are often down the pecking order.

Theres an argument we didnt have the right players under Puel to play possession football as we were so laboured on the ball, couple that with very little end product from our young players and it's been a distinctly mediocre season. Boring if you will. There's a number of fringe players leaving but as I said I think we might need up to half a dozen new players. So unless we sell say Maguire for £40-50m then its either some bargains in certain areas which might not be good enough or we have to blow serious money.
ealingfox Posted 5 March 2019 Posted 5 March 2019 Weren't any big sales in that accounting period was there? Schlupp is the only one I can think of at about 12m. Next accounts will include Mahrez and Musa sales.

To be fair we have sold a asset each season for the last 3 summers, so I wouldn't be surprised.

Yeah, I can see us moving players out before signing for a while. The club doesn't appear to be acting recklessly which is promising.
Blanchflower78 Posted 5 March 2019 Posted 5 March 2019 Expected to lose a lot off the wage bill this summer. Don't see the club looking at major investment in playing staff. 5-6 comfortably going, 1-2 coming in.

This, charging the fans significantly more for season tickets to allow the swapping of the kop/family stand is a must.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 5 March 2019 Posted 5 March 2019 Not flogging enough worthless memberships obviously. Jack the price up next season, that'll sort it.
Dr The Singh Posted 5 March 2019 Posted 5 March 2019 It's plastic fans fault, they should fook off and give us maluable steel fans a chance to spend our money
