Gwyn Posted 18 March 2019 Posted 18 March 2019 This guy is absolutely electric, even in defence he's looking to go forward. When he gets the ball I immediately sit up, I know every time he gets the ball something exciting is going to happen. He also seems like he is older than he is because he is so calm. I lauded puel for the signing, but that's all gone now. I hope he gets on with the gaffer because, IMHO I can see him being the most sought after right back, /midfielder in the league next season. And another conundrum, would he be better utilised as a attacking midfielder??

The very best full backs in the world remain full backs rather than be utilized higher up the pitch and the same should happen with Ricardo. Yes, he can excel further forward but his tackling stats are off the scale and the way he gets forward as well means he is a beast of a full back. What we need to be looking for is somebody who can compliment him at right wing, him and Albrighton teamed up very well at times but if you could add a player who will provide 20+ goals a season in assists and goals himself then it's a formidable right hand side.
cal21212121 Posted 18 March 2019 Posted 18 March 2019 He is best at RB but given the license to go forward. That's why I liked him with albrighton in front because they cover each other just like Jeff and Dyer used to do in the championship winning season.
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 18 March 2019 Posted 18 March 2019 I absolutely love Ricardo, opitimises the modern day full back and is now generally one of the best in the league. The biggest thing for me now is he needs a consistant partnership. I can recall a run of 3 home games on the spin fairly recently when he played down the right with Ghezzal, Albrighton and then Gray. I think once he has a consistent partner down that right hand side, they will get a better understanding for each other’s movement and he will get even better!!

Phillip Lahm was moved in the end but he is probably an exception to the rule. I reckon he could have played in goal and still been superb. Ricardo is having a fantastic season, hopefully he can deliver these performances week in week out and every season. So far so good.

Yes, as was Gareth Bale but I think the reason for that was he wasn't actually very good defensively but an absolute warrior out wide and up front. The likes of Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Lilian Thuram and many others all could have been effective further forward but when they are as good defensively as they are and provide numerous assists and even goals then why change it? A full back isn't an easy position to fill well and a sub standard full back playing behind Ricardo would feel less exciting and limited than Ricardo bombing on from a winger that is also equally as devastating going forward. It's about being too much for the opposition to handle.
lgfualol Posted 18 March 2019 Posted 18 March 2019 Keep him at RB, buy a decent winger to play in front of him. Win the league.
winteriscoming Posted 18 March 2019 Posted 18 March 2019 Wing back. Him and chilwell are better going forward.
M0901 Posted 18 March 2019 Posted 18 March 2019 I'd stake a case for Amartey to be at right back in a 4-3-3 scenario with Ricardo on the right wing. The man is electric and only getting better.
CosbehFox Posted 18 March 2019 Posted 18 March 2019 In a team with less defensive worries, he'd be absolutely scary.

Dan Posted 18 March 2019 Posted 18 March 2019 Putting him on the wing is a waste for me as I don't think he'll actually produce enough goals or assists for a winger. He's not bad defensively though at right back despite some initial scares, he's an excellent athlete, super fit. There's a case for him being our best player.

egg_fried_rice Posted 18 March 2019 Posted 18 March 2019 He was terrific defensively at the weekend. Couple of times he read the play really well, used his pace and positioning to get between the opposition player and ball, then his strength and technique to simply shrug them off and carry or pass the ball back up the pitch. I think some people have some of his earlier performances where he was certainly more shaky ingrained in their minds, but now he's settled I don't think he's defensively weak at all - quite the opposite in fact. One of our players of the season for sure.

KingsX Posted 18 March 2019 Posted 18 March 2019 The modern FB who can defend, attack with speed and skill, and cover ground for a full 90’ is a rare bird. Even elite teams have trouble finding them or hanging on to them. He is under contract for another four years, but at 70K/week will look like a bargain to any number of clubs.
Clever Fox Posted 18 March 2019 Posted 18 March 2019 I love Ricardo, he's such a talent but I worry about him getting a broken leg as some of his tackling is a little clumsy. He's so quick that I just worry that some of the cloggers will hit him hard. His legs are so light which is where he gets his speed from that I fear for him especially when I see him diving in. But he's a huge talent that we need to secure on a long term contract.
Hollyfox Posted 18 March 2019 Posted 18 March 2019 The player I feel will be the one we'll do well to keep this summer. We have some great young talent but they're not yet ready for one of the top 5 or 6. Ricardo is
