Breaking the duck

Young Harvey Barnes, I think we all agree he is exciting, has made huge improvements in the last year and is going to have a successful Premier League career ahead of him.

Now with 33 shots in his 10 games since returning from the Baggies, has yet to put the ball into the back of the net.

This has him as the player in the Premier League with the most shots without a goal, having had more shots this season than the likes of Lingard, Ali and Iwobi.

So with 6 games left, will he break the duck this season? Will that lead to a scoring spree? If Harvey scores are we on the pitch?

So, when will that goal come? Bonus points if you can get the game and the minute.

I’m going for him putting us 1-0 up away at Man City with a screamer in the 15th minute.

He'll break the deadlock this weekend.

I'm going 15th minute.

He'll definitely score, a lot of his shots are from wide angles or outside the box though so he needs to work on the positions he's having efforts from

I may not be popular with my opinion but at the moment, he is underperforming.  given his numbers at West Brom and what we know he is capable of, he isn’t reaching the levels he should be.  this half season will hopefully be invaluable to him moving forwards in respect of experience and next season we should be reaping the rewards re confidence and better decision making.   But it’s not a given....... he could stagnate.  there is a hell of a player in there but it may never bloom ....... I hope BR manages to cultivate it and everyone reaps the rewards.

If you want to compare the Championship to the Prem then look no further than our no10. He was a clear stand out and out witting many defenders and scored top bins for fun, however, he himself has identified that the keepers are a lot better than he had faced previously. Madderz also looked a little low on confidence when things weren't going right, and he's been a focal point of the team since the first game. Football is all about ability yes, but confidence is what you need to flourish. You can see he is nervous and probably thinks he doesn't belong in the prem being so young, and that's all he needs: man management in the off season to make him believe he can shine and he will 100 for the club. I believe our new coaching staff will achieve this.

On a side note he's a Leicester fan and only wants to play for 2 clubs, us and England. Love it!

I don't personally believe he's underperforming, on the contrary I believe it's the polar opposite. I say that because of the huge gulf between the standard of play between Championship and Premiership. Faster, more physical and in Barnes case, far better, international experiened class defenders to come up against week in week out at times. I think to say he's underperformed is unreasonable in that it suggests an expectation that he should have just fitted in seemlessly as a Premiership player. He was also playing in a different position at West Brom, more a number 10 role from where you'd probably expect more goals from a more central position. Maddision, we also tend to forget, is having to learn very quickly on the job. If they were the finished article they probably wouldn't be here. There are very few Premiership wingers currently that are prolific goalscorers and even less that are fledgling 20yr olds. Marhez was exceptional but 27yrs of age when he left, his first few months here were hardly spectacular but to be reasonably expected from the circumstances from whence he came. Unlike some of our players, Barnes seees a lot of the ball and if you take that approach you can make more mistakes but he's rarely out of the game. He's been better than I expected him to be that's for sure.

He’s been superb.  Offered a great balance on that left hand side.  Can beat a man on the inside or outside.  He’s an absolute livewire.  There were times on Saturday he was in acres of space screaming for the ball but the option to try and play Vardy in was always taken.

I think next season he’s going to be absolutely mustard.

Speaks volumes that he is now a first team regular for us, I hope he can continue his progress and score some goals and provide more assists.

He was banging them in from everywhere for West Brom. He's barely had a shot on target since cioming back.

Hmm He has had many shots on target since returning, thats not the issue. The problem is finding the back on the net.

Real shame he missed away at Spurs, was absolute sitter.

He could do with a couple for his confidence. I know it's a football manager cliche but I do believe once he gets his first they'll flow.

He gets himself in to the best goal scoring positions of the three behind Vards.

Not really, 6 out of 34 (18%), he's not hitting the target enough, needs to be forcing the keep to make a save.

Pretty confident it will come

Have you actually been watching him?

How anyone can describe Barnes as underperforming is beyond me, there have been some interesting opinions on this forum recently eg Puel is a top manager, Vardy is finished, but this ranks amongst them as being so far wrong, in my opinion of course.

He's an exciting prospect, no doubt about it, and we're lucky to have him.

What he needs to work on is his composure. I'm sure Youri Tielemans could teach him a thing or two on that score...

When we hopefully see him having a bigger influence for longer periods of the game later this season and certainly  next season  then perhaps you’ll get where I’m coming from - I’m not just dissing one of our best prospects - I believe he is capable of doing better than he currently is, allowing for everything posters have written above.

I still say he scored in his first game back.  Stolen away as an o.g

When you compare the goal Shane Long got against us, which was a much greater deflection, albeit off of Schmeichel, but was never going in until that point.
