Harvey Barnes

Fantastic performance today you just want him to perform like this consistently now. Certainly helped that he was matched up against a right back that couldn't get much slower but the lad certainly needs to keep this direct style of football up. Still sometimes needs to learn when to be more selfish and when not to be but once that clicks he will could be a top player no doubt.

I think its time to get someone else on corners

Tielemans actually put some great ones in not too long ago but then it just seemed to revert back to Maddison... However, that West Ham team was bloody mahoosive and we would have done well to have won any of the aerial battles from corners if we are being honest. Poor Mendy when he was on the pitch looked like an actual dwarf.

When he’s in full stride he really does remind me of Bale. He needs open space to run in to and we carved that out for him so much in the first half tonight - if he’d have scored when he just pegged it down the left hand side but got tackled by Cresswell I think we’d have seen Zabaleta just retire at half time, he had him on toast.

Excellent today. Exactly what we've been wanting to see from him in this game and against Burnley.

Seems to have regained copious amounts of confidence now following Sunday's game and playing with a smile on his face.

About time he and Chilwell both put in great performances alongside each other again. Glad he got on the scoresheet again too.

What a ball for Pereira as well. Picked him out perfectly.

Yeah mate we will never win anything with Marc Albrighton in the side regularly!

Unbelievable lack of self awareness from some posters tonight.

I love Albrighton but it’s clear he doesn’t fit in with how this side plays unfortunately

How some wanted Albrighton in the side is beyond me. We're in dire trouble if Marc gets anywhere near the side

Marc Albrighton the literal winger when we won the league = dire trouble

Really good tonight. Doesn't seem to quite do full 90 mins performances but he's chipping in with goals now and another assist. Hope he keeps it going now.

Looked dangerous when he got the ball tonight every time.

.. had a few good moments tonight!!

He seems bedeviled to do the right thing and that is not helping his progression.

Just like Vardy in his first season he was looking to play the right ball even though his team mates were not reading it. For Barnes a player making a run on the outside (Chilwell) does not mean who have to lay it off to him, even when clearly you have a better route to goal. He had that break away chance in the first half when he pushed the ball forward to create a foot race and you could see he never believed he would get there.

He seems to be playing against himself and not trusting his instincts.

Like Vardy struggled I worry if he will fall into the same trap as he needs to be himself but from his demeanour on the pitch he may not have the personality to be what he potentially could be.

Apart from his forward play, he was also very impressive when tracking back (as were most yesterday). He was the one who put the vital block in on Snodgrass first half, just when it looked like we'd suffer another sucker punch.

Glad to see him score again last night, seems to get a lot of unwarranted stick on here from some quarters, he’s a young player with obvious talent so you need to stick with him and tolerate the dips, that’s the only way he’ll get to that level of consistency required to fulfil his potential. His pace and direct running is electrifying when he’s on point. Was a similar situation with us with McGregor.

Harvey Barnes has scored two goals in three Premier League appearances in 2020, as many as he netted in 35 games in the competition in 2019.

He has been directly involved in eight goals in the Premier League this season (three goals and five assists) - the only English midfielders to have been involved in more are Jack Grealish (12), Dele Alli and James Maddison (nine each).

Those are very good numbers and I’d wager he’ll improve them further before the end of the season. If someone offered you that contribution from Barnes at the start of the season you would have bitten their hands off, important to always look at the bigger picture with young players and ignore the inevitable dips in consistency from time to time.

We won well last night without rigid "wingers' Barnes and Perez play far better centrally . Width, when needed, can come from the full backs or Barnes and Vardy drifting wide . We have to be flexible and drag defenders around. . Iheanacho and Perez proved once again that they read each other very well.
