I had the same thoughts. They shut down 25th/26th. Ridiculous really to shut down on Boxing Day knowing full well that there is a full day of sporting action traiditonally in this country. Even places in Europe (Germany for example) have trains running even though it is not as much of a busy day).

What about those that travel for work who don't get the 26th off and don't drive? Must be awful.

This year, with Boxing Day falling late in the week, we could probably do without it and just have the 28-29th weekend then New Year's Day. It is odd how the matches are so spaced out throughout the year but we play four games over 8-10 days.

No public transport, council car parks closed. But I bet the traffic wardens will be working.

Free street parking and open car parks will be free (those that stop charging after a certain time). Parking really isn't an issue for this one. I drive to every game (share lifts between a couple of us) and the night games are the easiest for us to park up.

We could do without most years on that basis. I just think that it has become a tradition. Although moving a game to the 27th kills that. There was similar last year.

What they should do is force all games to KO at 15:00 on Boxing Day (or whatever time they decide). Maybe have a couple earlier at 12:30. Nothing should be later than that really. In my opinion.

Actually works out better for me as it frees up the day for the family, but I still think it's an outrage, especially for the away fans.

Yes especially since the 27th is a normal working day for a fair few people. Oh wait, it's Liverpool we're playing isn't it. That doesn't apply then.

In the "good " old days before privatisation trains did run on boxing day.

Remember ironically going up to Liverpool in the mid 80's by train on boxing day and we won!

The big bug bear is that rail companies do a lot of engineering work over the holiday period so even if the Liverpool match is December 27th there will only be a limited service. No doubt major changes for December 28th/29th as well

Jim White being hilariously "outraged" by this on TalkSport. "Did they think of the fans before deciding this?".

Dunno, Jim. Did Sky think of the fans went they sent Arsenal to Man United on a Monday night? Newcastle to Villa? The previous night games on Boxing Day live on Sky Sports?

The only different thing about this is a new company taking over.

The difference is this company isn't paying him

The bottom line is that by introducing a third package for purchase - which could have been any broadcaster, there's too many games available for television selection. It's causing chaos to the point that teams who are not due to be on television at one weekend may have to play Thursday and Sunday because one of their oppositions in those two games were selected for television at the weekend.

Saw the other day that Newcastle's appearances on Monday nights have been away from home 14 times in a row lol

The thing is a significant section of Newcastle fans will be happy with this as they get to see the game. It’s not the majority that travel away from home it’s the minority.

So they've confirmed Boxing Day is a shambles but still not the rest of the time period they were meant to have announced 6 days ago. Fantastic work as usual.

If the papers have got them they’ll have been finalised.

Finally a post worth reading 👍🏻

Not sure if sarcastic ha the companies were expected to announce this lunchtime but a premier league spokesman has confirmed that if will be this afternoon at earliest in case anyone was hanging on! In any case, we know we can expect the 8pm slot on BD but the only other move which is up in the air is the Villa game which we are expecting on the Sunday but waiting for confirmation.
