Arriba Los Zorros Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 A nice problem to have, especially in centre midfield where we've often been down to the bare bones, but do we have too many to realistically keep happy and offer game time? Off the top of my head - we have the following players for a maximum of 3 places: Wilf Ndidi Hamza Papy Mendy Matty James Andy King Adrien Silva Youri Tielemans Dan Amartey Dennis Praet James Maddison Leshabela Marc Albrighton That's not including Ghezzal, Gray and Barnes who can be seen as midfielders too. So, how is Brendan going to keep this bunch happy? Surely we have to offload Kingy, James and Silva as a minimum and maybe Mendy too?

LC/FC Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 Probably took a look at all those CM's and went "Diamond it is!"
Jattdogg Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 I think Silva and possibly ghezzal will be gone to a european club before the european window closes.

No. For the first time in my life we've got actual decent depth it's nuts but no we're not over burdened. Praet, Tielemans and Maddison for the 8 spots and Hamza and Ndidi for the ball winning role. Cool.
Countryfox Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 Some good players in that lot ... some Championship teams could do a lot worse than pick out a few of them ... might even push for promotion ! .. Silva, King, James ??
AjcW Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 I'll go out on a limb and say we will pay off King and James to let them join someone on a free transfer. Silva will be sold, there's still 3 weeks on the Euro Window, imagine he will leave Euro Deadline day, similarly wouldn't be surprised to see Mendy go on loan again.
UniFox21 Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 Wouldn't class it as a huge problem and when you split it into the key 'positions' I think we have the right amount of cover. For the Wilf position, we have: - Wilf - Hamza - Mendy Which is great stuff, for the initial games we can utilise Hamza and Mendy when wilf is getting up to speed. For the '8' role we have: -Youri -Praet -Silva - James (but probably not) Once again that gives us 3 players to cover 1 or 2 positions should we play a 3 or a diamond. Gives us enough in case of injury, suspension or lack of form. Then for 10; - Maddison - Praet - King Arguably you also have Perez and Barnes who can play there. So 3 in case of injury, suspension and loss of form. 3 is almost the ideal as it allows for rotation in the cup games and has competition for places that we need to keep on their toes

Cool. That's my point, we have 4 good players there, all being paid, all capable of Prem football and they have no chance of playing - can't be good for morale even if they are decent characters. 2 minutes ago, Countryfox said: Some good players in that lot ... some Championship teams could do a lot worse than pick out a few of them ... might even push for promotion ! .. RowlattsFox Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 Ndidi Hamza Praet Tielemans Maddison It would take a massive injury crisis for anyone else to play any minutes. Be surprised if Silva and Mendy are here after August, surprised King didn't leave on loan, surely he is not going to take a loan to league 1? Sure we can find something useful for James to do around the training ground?
Lesterlad Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 You can only ship Silva King James Mendy out if some other club actually want them. Unless you pay pay off their contracts that’s not good business by the way
GingerrrFox Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 We will start the game 4-4-2 diamond Sunday. It’s obvious to me that Brendan wants Pereira and Chilly to hug the touchline and provide the width whilst Tielemans/Maddison/Praet have the freedom to interchange positions in a Number 8/Number 10 hybrid role.
Blue Ed Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 Wilf Ndidi (Defnesive Midfielder) Hamza (Defensive Midfielder) Papy Mendy (Deep Lying Playmaker) Matty James (Central Midfielder/Attacking Midfielder) Andy King (Central Midfielder/Attacking Midfielder) Adrien Silva (Box to Box) Youri Tielemans (Central Midfielder/Attacking Midfielder) Dennis Praet (Defnsive Midfielder/Playmaker) James Maddison (Attacking Midfielder/Wide) Leshabela (dont know) Marc Albrighton (Wide Midfielder) 2 defensive midfielders 2 defensive playmakers 3 central midfielders who should score goals 1 wide midfielder 1 box to box Nah doesn't look to many apart from in the central midfielder/attacking roles but you've included James and King in this list and as much as I love them both I don't think we'll see a lot of them this year

Wilf, Tielemans and Maddison is absolutely one of the best midfields in the Premier League - and they're still very young! Having Hamza, Mendy and Praet available to add to it is a huge bonus. I really liked Leshabela in pre-season so hopefully he can get some game time during the cups too. Silva, King and James are all surplus to requirements I'm afraid.

AKCJ Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 The reality is that we have Tielemans/Maddison/Praet for the more attacking midfield spots and Ndidi/Mendy/Choudhury for the more defensive spots. The others are surplus to requirements.

He neither has the vision nor the passing range for that.
yorkie1999 Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 Shame we can't play 13 players, we'd have a brilliant team!
wardyfox86 Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 We've focused on getting players in. No Prem teams would have been looking at our squad players so the deadline hasn't passed. I think Rachid, Silva and Slim will end up out on loan in Europe, King and James in Champ or L1. No way do we need anybody lower than Mendy in the pecking order.
Nicolo Barella Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 I suspect Mendy and Silva will be moved on before the European window closes. Albrighton may get minutes at LCM but I doubt that will be his primary position in Rodger's mind. Ndidi, Hamza, Praet, Tielemans and Maddison will battle it out for the midfield 3/4, and that really only leaves us with James and King as surplus to requirements. With all due respect to them, their time at this level is done, and they are only still here because they want to be, not because the club is holding them back. I do not begrudge them their decision to stay here, but I wouldn't worry about their playing time - they've made their own decisions and know what they're in for.

I didn't say he had the passing range for the role. he does what he can for his ability, short passes and looks to recycle the play sideways and back.
simon789us Posted 9 August 2019 Posted 9 August 2019 If king and james are staying just for laughs they need moving off playing staff (lets face it they are never playing for us again) into some technical roll that dosent affect FFP
