Premier League 2020/21 Thread

I know it was against us but Ozil was majestic that game. The 2nd goal he completely splits our defence apart with 1 pass. 3rd goal was total football. Sad to see his demise because on his day he was beautiful to watch.

Can well see shithouse managers like Allardyce taking advantage of this law. I remember when he was at Bolton and they played us and he made 2 of his players deliberately stand offside at set plays and then when it was taken run back onside to try and cause confusion. That last night proved that there are clearly still issues with the offside laws and the way its interpreted. That goal last night should never have been allowed.

Seems inevitable this will get abused now.

Have to say that 3rd goal should really have been disallowed for being way too pornograohic.

Pure sensational. That second goal was also special.

Think that was the last Leicester game I got to. It was also the last time we've seen this Ozil. Fvckin typical lol

The second half of that Arsenal game was one of the best exhibitions of football against us since our promotion.

I left a pub that night wishing that we could reach that level of performance. 12 months later we beat Southampton 9-0 and have beaten Arsenal 3 times since.

Positional awareness, what do you mean by that?

I imagine he's thinking "Ah he's offside, I don't need to worry about that, I'll concentrate on this ball coming towards me, no Man City players running at me, I'll bring it down rather than give away possession cheaply"

On the plus side, it's easier to stop teams playing out from the back now. Have your forward sat behind the defence and then instruct them to make a challenge when the defender gets the ball. They're allowed to run to the defender, so aren't interfering with play. As soon as the defender touches it, if they try and control it you can be a yard away and nick it off them.

This will mean defenders won't make the mistake of trying to control the ball and play football.

The precedent is set now and everyone is aware of the leagues interpretation of this rule, I expect to see more teams taking advantage of it now.

If anyone was calling that as a goal, and not just because they wanted Villa to lose, before Walton put on his little reading glasses then fair play. I would guess that 95% of football fans and people involved in the game believed that to be offside. The fact an ex referee who's job it is to know the rules and advise on them on live also thought it was is a testament to that.

Sincerely

Complete Moron :D

You realise they could always do this? How can you be offside without the ball? lol

it’s a daft rule but some of you are over reacting to it. Most players deal with the situation as if everyone’s onside. Nothing will change.

maybe strikers will pressure a little more when from offside starting points... but I can’t imagine a managers tactic will be. Stay offside when we try to pass to you. Then just come and nick the ball.

If that’s the tactic it will be welcomed because the teams will be giving away possession 95% of the time when they could have just created a chance when they had the ball.

There is absolutely zero controversy around the Mings **** up, it's not offside it's just crap defending. If the football media weren't so desperate for a bit of drama they'd have just all done what they should have done which is point out it's really embarrassing that a Premier League manager doesn't know the rules and had some weird Jonathan Pearce style meltdown.

Rodri isn't interfering with play until Mings controls the ball so what's the problem? I don't even agree with the whole Martin Keown "the rule isn't in the spirit of the game" rubbish, what?

If Rodri had openly contested for the initial ball, had put pressure on Mings and forced him to rush and he'd fumbled it or something then I could understand the controversy but Mings doesn't even seem to have considered he's there, he's just casually chesting it down thinking he's got all the time in the world.

Literally a non-issue.

Agree entirely. Had Mings not touched the ball and Rodri nipped round him to win it then it would be different but because Mings made the mistake and allowed Rodri to take it off him after he had played the ball Rodri was clearly NOT offside.

I wonder what Smith & Vanilla would have done if it were the other way round   -   diddly squat!!

I can not stand, and I mean really detest Jamie Carragher. Know its been said a million times but I've no idea how he kept his job at sky. His voice grates on me so much, it's unbearable and I can't help but think what an enormous tosser he is every time he opens his mouth.

He's very lucky he's still in his role, especially after spitting on a rival fan through a car..

Many other industries would've likely to dismiss their employees if they were notified of a such incident involving them.

Scouse accent so strong that he probably needs to regularly wipe the phlegm off his microphone

Multiplied by weird squeaky high voice

Multiplied by bias which is unbecoming of a professional broadcaster

Multiplied by a massively transparent conscious effort to be "controversial" for clicks and traffic

To the power of Sky putting him on commentary for games where he will wind people up

Plus he not a very nice human being

Equals "cuntertainment"

From the BBC website lol:

Tony: If the teams swapped shirts I'm not so sure you could tell the difference between Liverpool and Burnley.

Ben Rogers: Not sure what’s going on at Liverpool - gone from heavy metal football to Michael Bublé
