Do we over praise Liverpool  and Man  City  to hide the poor standard generally . Most in England look down on the French  league  but the side placed 9th comprehensively  beat City  and Chelsea hammered by Bayern .On European results French Spanish  Italian  and German leagues are stronger  and although I will get much abuse I  wondered  how good 5th was by the City  compared to  placings under Martin when the league was much stronger

This is the first time since 1995/96 theres been no English or Spanish team in the CL semi finals. The PL has regularly had teams gets to the last stage or win it. Its been years since a French team got this far, or won it. Slightly less for German teams but still a while. Man City had a bad night, pep at times over thinks these games, but in reality they should be beating Lyon 99/100.

We had both finalist from the PL last season for god sake, and one of those hasn't qualified for it this season or next season.

The premier league held both European cups last year. The premier league may still have their hand on one European cup this year. It’s a cup tournament. Shit happens.

It’s also an argument that the leagues you have mentioned (with exception to Spain) the bigger teams have easier games so can prep better for Europe.

Questioning our 5th place finish this year is as bad as those who question our champions season as a fluke. Or lucky due to the “bigger” teams taking a season off. The Premier League is still the league everyone wants to watch and win.

Everyone in the PL wants to win it, yes. I'm not sure how much it appeals to Barca or Bayern.

Don’t judge anything on this season. It’s stop start one leg games makes it difficult to compare.

Yep that's my take on it too. It is interesting though that the French teams who should in theory be the most out of shape fitness wise have done the best, given their league was called off so long ago.

It's surely Bayern's to lose now though, they have been the best team both pre and post lockdown in the competition.

It's the best league in the world, Sky tell us so every match 👍

This seasons q/f are very difficult to judge given the extraordinary circumstances we're currently in.

If you're looking at the finalists of the champions league, Spain are and have been the best representatives over the last 10 years and probably Italy were before that.

English clubs have done okay and we had a good spell around 2008 - 2012 and in the last few years but we're not the best representatives.

In terms of entertainment, the Premier league is the best. There is no doubt, we have the most exciting league. Given all the money that is in our game, we should also be the best in Europe but we have underperformed, and I think a lot of that is to do with tactical elements of the game. I find teams from other countries, more tactically shrewed in the way they set up and know their limitations.

If Raheem had scored that open goal to make it 2-2, then who knows what ‘may’ have happened?  What makes the EPL the toughest is, we have the ‘Big 6’.  Most other major European Leagues have a lesser number of so called ‘Big’ Teams.  But for sure the top Clubs in these major Leagues (Germany/Italy/France and Spain) are equal or better in some cases than the UK’s media darlings.

As someone else has pointed out COVID-19 has changed the landscape of this season all over Europe.

The PL and La Liga are the two best. Given the money in the PL it should by far the best though and it isn’t. Burnley probably have two or three times the size of Getafe’s budget but they’re nowhere near their level.
