He’d be great in the current set up playing just behind Vardy, but he really didn’t fit in with the set up at the time. Always showed glimpses of what he could do but was often a tad too slow for a side looking to press and counter quickly.

Not surprised at all how well he’s done.

There was some glimpses potential, but his performances left much to be desired on the whole. Not sure you can claim he was 'absolutely class here'.

He looked a level above almost every other player in terms of his touch and footballing brain.

I remember he tried a chip one game and then a lot of the fan base soured on him and wouldnt let it go. Really weird bunch of people are football fans.

West Ham at home in the cup. It was a seriously poor bit of finishing.

There is clearly and obviously a great player in Kramaric but I have huge reservations at to whether he could cut it in the Premier League at all.

For some players it doesn't happen in England. There have been greater players than Kramaric fail here. Its a different game to the continent.

I wish he'd have succeeded, though. Signing him felt like we had really arrived.

My memory of him is Arsenal away. And Liverpool away on Boxing Day where we lost 1-0 to  Benteke goal. Last minute Schmeichel goes up for s corner, Liverpool counted and Kramaric somehow gets back to defend the far post.

I'm glad he's doing well at Hoffenheim.

Same could be said of Kevin De Bruyne and Mo Salah. Flopped in their first stint in the Premiership then got shipped out to Germany and Italy were successful there particurly kevin. And came back to the Premiership and have plaued brilliant for their clubs.

I thought he was exceptional at Arsenal away in the great escape season. You could see the lad could play but he just didn’t fit our style of play and his decision making at that point was often too slow.

People develop differently. Some have come back, some have had great careers abroad.

KDB,

Salah,

Lukaku,

Pogba,

Matic,

Luis Alberto,

Berghuis (who I think we should look at),

KP Boateng

Kevin Boateng

Forlan

Gnarby

...... I mean Matterazzi played for Everton! How many people remember that!

As has been said, it was clear he was very talented, but he just didn't quite fit in with our system, nor get the run of games required to find regular form.

Seemed likely he would be a success elsewhere, but at least it was a move that suited everyone.

He played really well that night but his finishing cost us the game. I seem to remember him going one on one twice and trying to do silly chips over the goalkeeper.

Proper rate this lad now, really talented. Pearson Walsh etc always did have a eye for a player didn’t they.

Just another game I couldn't remember until you mentioned the chips and it all came flooding back.

I like football 365 articles normally and I knowbits specifically January but I could think of a lot worse signings than him.

He wouldn't get anywhere near the badness of the Taylor era.  I'd have Diabete or a few of the loan signings before him.

Don't these Kramaric threads pop up every 3-6 months?

Good player, glad he's done well.

He likely would not have got the game time had he stayed to develop into what he is now.

Drinkwater threads appeared with increasing regularity in the first year or two that he left, not so much now.

Unlucky here ,its now  history , but seeing how hard he trained and always doing extra sessions in the gym when not playing to keep his fitness at top level , i'm not surprised he is a good player . He also is a nice guy .

I still feel slightly aggrieved that he never got a fair crack of the whip with us and consider him as one that got away.

I remember thinking when he scored v QPR in the last game of the 2014/15 season that he would go on to great things the following season...

It turned out rather differently - but extremely well for both parties. It was nice to see him back for the bus parade title celebrations though, and I’ve always followed his career with Hoffenheim and Croatia with interest - and, yes, a touch of regret.

What have we got to be sniffy about Germany ? It’s a quality league with some decent teams, the lad is a quality player he was just the wrong player at the wrong time

In no way am I "sniffy" about Germany but their league is not as good as the EPL.

2 goals and 2 assists in 601 minutes for us, deserved more of a chance.

Did we sell him the same summer we bought Slimani?

Came to us at the wrong time, if he had came in the summer and had a full season we probably would have seen a different outcome. He joined a team at the time that were bottom of the league and lacking confidence, I think come the great escape run he just couldn't get into the team.
