Jonny Evans - New Deal until 2023

Leicester City Football Club is delighted to confirm that Jonny Evans has agreed a contract extension with the Foxes to the summer of 2023.

 

The Northern Ireland international – who has played over 300 times in the Premier League – joined LCFC from West Bromwich Albion in June 2018 having previously played for Manchester United.

 

A three-time Premier League winner, the 32-year-old has been a mainstay in City’s defence since his arrival at King Power Stadium and has featured on 89 occasions in all competitions to-date, scoring three goals.

 

Speaking to LCFC TV, Evans said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have signed. I’m delighted to commit myself to the Club, and delighted the Club have committed themselves to me.

 

“I’ve loved it here since the first day I came in. It’s a great atmosphere around the place and it’s a Club with a lot of ambition. The players are ambitious and the signings that they’ve made over the years, they’ve signed young, hungry players and it’s been great for me to come in alongside that and be a part of it.”

 

Born in Belfast, Evans started his career at Manchester United as an Academy graduate and made his league debut for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side against Chelsea in September 2008. 

 

He went on to play 196 times for the Red Devils, winning three Premier League titles, two League Cups, one FIFA Club World Cup and four Community Shields.

 

The experienced defender has won over 80 caps for Northern Ireland, with his international bow coming in a famous 3-2 win over Spain in 2006, while he also featured for his country during their Euro 2016 campaign in France.

 

This season, Evans has played 15 games for LCFC, helping them to third in the Premier League table and qualification to the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League.

Was starting to get worried about his contract running out.  Lovely stuff.  I'd say he's not been quite as good as he usually he is recently but with the schedule etc it's understandable. Still a class player and glad he's staying

To think that some questioned the signing after the first few appearances. Top defender who will help the younger ones to improve and all for 3 million quid great work by the club, says it all that some of the bigger clubs were interested in signing him, on to Youri and Riccy.

The guy who does the interviews really tries his hardest to make them the most boring interviews ever by asking the same generic questions every match or every time a player signs a new deal. 

 

You never really learn anything from them as half the time the interviewer has already half-answered the questions for them!

Two years is interesting .... I suspect we’ve kept him on his high salary then but weren’t prepared to go beyond two years. 
 

for him, he shouldn’t have the worry of having to play every game (once we have cags fit). If he went to a new club for a big s/o fee and salary then perhaps there would be pressure to do that.
