The manager obviously doesn't like his defensive work rate or his ability to get his head up and make sensible decisions. People expecting him to be in great form when he barely gets a game are just being stupid. He's clearly got plenty of pace and technical ability, he's shown flourishes of that. More so than any of our other options have there. He just also has a habit of trying to do everything himself which I imagine is a big part of why he doesn't play.
