The Super League

Recommended Posts

This is a horrendous, sickening and grotesque power grab by the clubs involved. They are essentially forming a cartel league with no risk of competition. It's criminal.

Football should stamp this out ASAP. And they can:

- Bans from all other leagues

- Ban players from competing internationally

- Unified fans protest (this will start damaging their precious brands)

- Government pressure

- Player protests

Let them break away and create their own franchise cartel league on their own! But if the players and the footballing community turn their back it will crumble.

The domestic leagues will still exist and prosper without the "big six" teams. They are not everything. We have just been conditioned into believing they are. If anything, the increased competition will make the premier league a lot more exciting!

Agreed - he looks burned out and this could be the final straw for him.

Just perfect for him, not sure he'd go to Bayern but he'd get the Germany gig over Flick IMO. He'd get no stick for walking away either, it's so easy for him and will be a test of his morals this will.

To be honest can’t see too many current players or connections to the clubs coming out and criticising this, I mean it’s been barely a week since the Dulux Dog made one of the big six look like idiots on Twitter and we’re already getting these headlines...

Natural extinction or are they being hunted by grouchy Spurs fans for trophies (the only ones they'll get)?

Surely those CL reforms being signed off means these clubs have gotten what they wanted in the first place. That Agnelli cvnt was pushing for them wasn't he

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see all these clubs backtrack on their Super League plans now

Getting clubs putting out statements condemning it now

The yellow club strongly condemns the announced proposal to create a secessionist and elitist European competition

Villarreal CF, like LaLiga, strongly condemns the announced proposal to create a secessionist and elitist European competition, which attacks the principles of open competitiveness and sporting merit that occupy the deepest part of the national and European football ecosystem.

Today, football fans across Europe can dream that their Club, whatever its size, can excel in competition, reach the top, and compete at the pinnacle of European football.

The yellow club, in the same way that LaLiga, defends this European football tradition of football for everyone. The concept proposed by 12 European clubs destroys that dream, closing the door to the top of European football and allowing the entry of only a few to an elite.

LaLiga has a proud 90-year history as an open, merit-based competition. Millions of fans around the world are fans of the 42 LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank clubs. The success of our competitions has contributed to football becoming a key factor in the Spanish economy, representing almost 1.4% of GDP and employing almost 200,000 people.

The new European competition proposal is nothing more than a selfish approach, designed to further enrich the wealthiest. It will undermine the appeal of the entire game and have a profoundly damaging impact on the immediate future of LaLiga, the clubs that comprise it and the entire football ecosystem.

In addition, it will also impact the rest of the sports to which, in the current season, LaLiga contributes more than 126 million euros since it endangers the contribution system approved in the Pact of Viana.

We will use all the tools at our disposal and we will work with all parties involved to defend the integrity and future of Spanish football in the best interest of the game.

Being hunted by Spurs fans for trophies - in light of this news The RSPCA expects the population to make a full recovery and return to a healthy population in no time.

They’ve gone too far. They’ve resigned all their positions and started legal proceedings. They fully intend to go through with it.

UEFA backing down against Man City last year is what probably convinced them they can win.

By all accounts the super league cartel money league is a result of these clubs not agreeing with the champions league reforms.

“National government may have limited formal powers to stop any super league. But local government may have more, stronger and long forgotten powers. Football Clubs use the name of their towns and cities with the permission of the local council. If Liverpool Council decides it no longer wants Liverpool FC to bear its name, then they could withdraw that right. The club could still exist and play in the new ESL but call itself something else (Red Mersey?) but they could no longer call itself Liverpool. That would be an utterly extraordinary move but maybe even the threat would be something.”

We could actually have a real life PES Master League.

Come on East Midlands FC! Win your first FA Cup Final!

I dunno why that would be the case when it seems like they were literally made to benefit them. Qualification based on 'historical performance' or some bollocks.

I don't think so. These CL reforms have been in place for a while, and the ESL is a consequence of it as those clubs aren't happy with the reforms.

I know this has been in the pipeline a while, but it has been widely criticised hasn't it? Just seems a weird coincidence they've chosen to approve it today - it's like they're hoping no one will pick up on it as they're so enraged by the Super League that this will seem a better alternative. It's not, and it still gives precedence to those clubs who are self-proclaimed as being worthy of competing at the highest level.
